Re: The Shape of the Redskins
We're a complete, utter mess. We'll need a complete overhaul whenever Joe decides to move on. We have no QB, and the defense - the supposed rock of our team - is terrible. I just hope all the talk about Gregg Williams replacing Gibbs one day stops now.

they didnt have a bye week then
Those were different teams, with WAY different players.
Prepare for the 'duplicate/unnecessary thread' smackdown, though.
Totally agree. This D line has nobody who can consistently rush the passer, and little depth at DT (two rookies). I'm convinced that Saunders will improve the offense over the long haul, but lack of quality players and depth in the trenches will be the downfall of this team. |
Re: The Shape of the Redskins
First you need to find a GM and trust him to find a coach to use the talent right. Use the draft wisely something we havent done since danny boy been here. Stop sign these dumb over price fa that just want to come here and get paid.

Re: The Shape of the Redskins
One thing that would help the offense and defense would be a threat of a passing game on offense.

Re: The Shape of the Redskins
What's up with the offensive line? The last two weeks both Chris and Jon have given up sacks in the the same game. I've never seen that happen once let alone two weeks in-a-row
|
Re: The Shape of the Redskins
our defense just isn't good enough. we won't make the playoffs, and even if we did, we don't have enough to win. not unless everyone turns into all-stars overnight.

Re: The Shape of the Redskins
its all about evaluating talent. paying more money for a player doesn't equal a better player. instead of paying AA, the skins should have kept Clark, and brought in a quality corner. and our o line play has been terrible. i think they are going to get portis killed

and as much as i hate to say this, walt harris is an upgrade over wright and rumph

Re: WHATS WRONG WITH OUR FRONT OFFICE? Barber, Trotter, Smoot, Pierce, and Clark.
hindsight. champ couldn't be paid cause we paid lavar. at the time that was widely regarded as a mistake though (if lavar didn't get injuried so quickly afterwards, maybe it wouldn't have seemed so bad). the first year after the trade, bailey was in 4-5 nationally televised games and looked terrible in every single one of them.
this year he looks unstoppable though. |
OK. What do we do now. Do they cut Archuletta? He would be a 10 million dollar hit against our cap. I just don't understand. Last year we were two games from the super bowl. All we were lacking was another wide reciever and a good corner. Now we need a completely new defense. We have got to get a real GM. One that unerstands talent. Joe Gibbs needs to leave personnel decisions to someone else and do what he does best, coach.
the 4 deals are 3-4 year deals with 3-4 year options, more or less. the base pay is close to 1mill per (+pro rated signing bonus), and then balloon up to 4mill per year (+pro rated bonus) the last few years. so it'll be cheaper to keep them through at least 2008, even though they can't play. but yeah, it definately hurts when you miss on players with big money. none of them were first tier free agents (except maybe El who was on the borderline due to a weak WR free agent AND draft class), but they all got first tier money. 4 first tier DEs (bosch, kampman, abraham, and freeney) were available, but three signed with their original teams, and abraham was traded for a 1st (too much for a guy that only cares about his pay checks and love to make excuses to miss games). a guy like darren howard would have been better (and MUCH MUCH) cheaper than carter. oh well. maybe we'll get it right next year. |

yeah, but the grass is always greener :/. too bad though, we've let a few good players go the last couple of years, while replacing them with (generally more expensive) less talented players. |

because the ends know we are done running the ball and all they have to do is go after the QB. any quality DE will be able to beat the tackle if they can just straight rush the QB. its when they have to play both run, screens, and pass rush that slow them down a bit. |

Samuels and Jansen have been awful and for the most part have gotten a free pass from all the criticism of the offense this year. And Samuels can't use the excuse that he has to protect the blindside anymore. What's most sad though is that Chris Samuels will probably get another Pro Bowl nod yet again this year. Samuels continually making the Pro Bowl is as much a farce as Monk continually not making the Hall of Fame |
Re: The State of the Redskins (MERGED)
Samuels needed help yesterday, but it seems like all year we haven't given the OL much help from the TEs or backs. Gibbs went a little overboard with all the max protect stuff last year, but you know at times the offense functioned a hell of a lot more effeciently that it has this year.
