Between his presser and info about his contract, this deal is looking better all the time.

Like Wilbon said, a lot of people's reaction is an emotional reaction of "oh crap here we go again" (I'm not saying you did that by the way, I think all of us said that to ourselves at one point). However, the more details we know about the deal and the more we learn about AH, as well as the other move by the FO (Dock) gives you a different reaction. |
Re: Albert Haynesworth is a Redskin!!!!
Jason Brown just signed with the Rams.

I actually like what the Giants are going to doing according Shefter, signing Canty, Boley and Rocky Bernard. 3 impact players that we need at this positions on the roster for the price of 1. |

True. But none had the impact AH had on his team. |

Too bad they need to look at what they are going to do about Burress, since that's really their issue. |

I can tell you that Canty will be a stud, I don't care if he's played in a 3-4 D this guy is a beast, Bernard is not to shabby either, if you recall the playoff game in Seattle he was a force. |

They drafted Mario Mannigham last year (he could be great, maybe a bust) they can also draft a WR, they don't have many holes like us. |

I mean good for the Giants, but they are pretty much overloading their defensive line. I wonder if they are thinking about moving one of their DEs to LB. Plus, I think the Giant's biggest question is in offense as well. Yes they won more games, but their offense struggled at times (like when they only put up 16 when their defense owned our offense). I'm sure they'll address that in the next couple of days. |

I agree with everything you're saying. That's actually the way I thought we'd go. But as good as Canty is, I don't think he would have the same impact on our defense as AH. |

Without the 'R' logo of course. :D |
Re: Albert Haynesworth is a Redskin!!!!
giants will be in the superbowl mix again... strong offseason there.
ours is looking good too, but we need our WRs to step up bigtime and luck on injuries. btw, haynesworth is looking like a really smart guy (from his interview/presser). so that's good, but we'll have to wait until the season to see what we've really got. he handled everything really well though. |

True, but obviously they missed Burress in the post season, and it seems like their front office doesn't want him back. Right now they are also one Brandon Jacobs injury away from having Ahmad Bradshaw as their RB, since they let Ward go. I mean they can overload their defensive line, but if they don't score points they'll become....our team from last season. Oh and you're one Giants praise away from becoming Giantone. :smashfrea |

Minithread: Will we be charged with Tampering
I honestly think we're going to at least get some strong accusations. On top of that the Titans like to build through the draft so one has to wonder.

Personally i think the NFC East will be much more even this year in terms of talent/records. |
Re: Albert Haynesworth is a Redskin!!!!
Funny thing to consider. Demarcus Ware wants a new contract in Dallas in fact he's their number one offseason priority. Adam Shefter pointed out that Ware now thinks he deserves Haynesworth money. Ironically this Haynesworth signing might turn out to be the ultimate kamikazee attack on our division rival. Though I'm pretty sure the Cowboys are looking forward to an uncapped year themselves.

Re: Albert Haynesworth is a Redskin!!!!
Haynesworth has clearly been a stud for the past two seasons. However, I think players who have something to prove, or hungry players, are what this team really needs. Does anyone think that Haynesworth is going to be full now that we just fed him $100,000,000? Now that he's had his big pay day, is he still going to play with the fire he used to have? I sure hope so.

That is the 41 million dollar question right there. And only time can tell. Now the long wait till next season begins. I can tell you with 100% certainty that this will be a LOOOONG wait!!! |

I guess I'm wondering what player says at his presser that since he's been paid he's gonna start slacking off. These players know what to say and how much the fans cant wait to lap it up. I hope AH works out better that Stubby. I think it can happen but time will tell. |
Re: Albert Haynesworth is a Redskin!!!!
Going by his presser I'm not worried about him slacking off.
I agree that his presser was a real quality appearance. He listed out goals above just getting paid; like being seen as a HOF caliber DT, making his opponents know every gameday that he is the best they face. I also know I can't wait to see him suit up and slam Romo to the ground. |
Re: Albert Haynesworth is a Redskin!!!!
Let's be real for a minute. There's downside to every deal. Every single one. There's always the potential issue of injuries, lack of production, and character flaws, and system knowledge at the professional level. So in my opinion, money is irrelevant to the extent that someone was going to sign him and benefit from his services anyway. So why not the Redskins. There's just a point, when it comes to a superstar athelete in his prime, some team will always be perceived as overpaying for this guy or that guy. What about the 49ers making a cornerback the highest paid player in NFL history last year? Since the Washington Redskins have a reputation for overspending, it just makes for juicier conversation.
The point is, as far as numbers are concerned, can we stay under the cap. And we always seem to find a way to do so. So I could care less how much they paid for Haynesworth. Seriously. The whole argument about cap numbers and too much in salary is worthless in my opinion. You either win or lose in this league. Fans don't give a shit how much you were under the cap come Super Bowl sunday every year. They just don't. Now there can be an argument made that if we don't spend too much on this guy, we can afford that guy. But I digress. I just want the Skins to win. Period. Sometimes the big names work out and sometimes they don't. Bottom line, for the first time in a long time, we have a bona-fide bad ass in burgundy and gold. Sure, if he blows out his knee in camp, yeah, it looks like a bad effin move. But if we can keep Brandon Jacobs from running down our throats on third and short with the division title on the line, you betcha, Haynesworth was worth every burgundy cent of his contract.
I agree with your ppost until you last sentense. There is no way of knowing he was worth every penny until he is producing on the field then we can make that judgement. I just hope he is the first defensive lineman to wear a red jersey in practice like JC. |

I'm just going by his attitude and the way he presented himself overall. He seems to be very aware of the kind of player he is and someone that has learned from his past mistakes. And he seems to be motivated to be a great player for reasons other than just a big paycheck. I could be totally wrong of course, that was just my impression of him as a person. He seems to have his head on straight and his priorities in order. |
Re: Albert Haynesworth is a Redskin!!!!
Thank God for Dan Snyder.
There's a cap in place, any owner could do the same. |
Re: Albert Haynesworth is a Redskin!!!!
Offseason isn't over. We can still sign another free agent on offense, and there's the draft. We do need to address the OL, for sure. But we also need to get our Thomas, Kelly, and Davis out there to complement Moss, Portis, and Cooley and together with JC's growth the offense should improve.
Investing so much in Haynesworth does present a bit of a risk but it potentially takes our defense to an elite level which makes the team much better...and we don't have to look to Ryan Boschetti for depth anymore. Now starters like Golston finally go to where they belong (solid depth on the bench) Disastrous move is quite hyperbolic
Hyperbolic is all the rage. I even wrote a rap about it. Us signing Haynesworth bothers you doesn't it? That's understandable. After the G-mens collapse at the end of the year (As I pointed out to you around game 14 or 15 and you scoffed) it's becoming more apparent that the gap has closed significantly. Go sign some more d-linemen. Quantity doesn't make up for quality. :) It feels so good to be a Redskin fan right now. I'll be sure to wave as we pass you by. |

Wreckless fantasy football? We re-signed a guy who played for us last season, brought back a former Redskin for a very reasonable contract, and signed the best FA to hit the market in years. Not to mention we are addressing needs. If being wreckless is addressing major needs with 3 top flight players under 30 years old, then I'll be wreckless all day. And before you say anything about Haynesworth's contract, keep in mind there were 4 or 5 other teams out there willing to give him around $35M in guarantees. It's not like we overpaid for some guy no one else wanted. Don't forget the Giants were making a push for Haynesworth as well. That's why you're after Canty right now. And there's also this: HAYNESWORTH'S "REAL" DEAL IS LIKELY FOUR YEARS, $48 MILLION - NBC Sports Blogs Thanks for trying and have a nice day. |
