So from that read SS, I get the sense that we are Manning 1st then RG3?
Well I think it's a product of timing also. This afternoon Manning will be free game for anyone. Doesn't make sense to sit and wait and then what happens, the Cardinals get get Manning, the Dolphins get Flynn, Browns agree to a deal with the Rams for RG3 and we get....Colt McCoy!!!!! Seriously though, I don't know that one is 100% preferred over the other |

It's all speculation, but I think the Redskins should pass on Manning. I understand he's the best free agent in NFL history, but this team has to draft their own. Unless they intend to draft a rookie quarterback like Tannehill, Foles, or Weeden to back up Manning, then signing Manning wouldn't make much sense. Grossman and Beck are not good enough to even be back ups. Jonathan Crompton might be another option at QB but we don't know much about him yet. So, maybe they can draft a QB and develop him.
I'm a bit confused by your post |

I guess what he's trying to say is that the Redskins should draft RGIII, he just went the way of China to get to that point. |

I would think teams are going to want to see him throw and have their doctors check him out. Plus I could see him wanting to take some time to make a decision. |
re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
I still think he's going to retire. But if he plays again, I think it's the Cards.
|
re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
what if this announcement was to announce that peyton is staying in indy as a part owner.
|
re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
I think Peyton Manning will be a late sign in free agency; which will put a lot more pressure on the Rams to get a deal down for the #2 trade.

Tough seeing these guys part ways. A lot of emotion there.

re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
I really think he'll be a late FA signing, as someone else said. I think this is just way too emotional for him to be making that sort of decision right now.
Would be interesting if both Manning and Reggie Wayne end up in 'Zona. |
re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
This emotional presser really makes me want to see him come back and have a phenomenal season.

But id rather have RGIII. |
re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
Big name FAs are on the market every year, but very rarely is there ever one as big as Manning. We don't have RG3 locked up, contrary to belief. Right now our QBs are Beck and Grossman and really it's only Beck because Grossman is a FA...so I don't see how you can't at least consider Manning
Smoot do you have a feeling of what our price limit is on a Manning contract? Or asked differently, why wouldn't we be willing to outspend other teams? |

re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
I'm a bit confused by your post
Basically, I was saying that Manning is an aging veteran who is not a long term solution. He'd be a Redskin maybe until Shanahan's contract is up. Drafting RG3 would be much better. Because of the risk involved with Manning, GM Bruce Allen and head coach Mike Shanahan should pass on him. If they do sign him, then they should draft a Tannehill, Weeden, or Foles to learn from Manning and develop. Since Grossman doesn't have a contract and Crompton and Beck does, I'd favor Crompton backing up Manning since Beck isn't a quality back up let alone a quality starter. I hope I'm understood now. |

re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
??? I'm confused, who has a bad neck?
3 specialists have said PM is 100% healed and can take a hit. There is no bad neck. You could argue a QB with nerve damage but it appears he is recovering well from that too as seen on the video. So what QB are you refering to with a bad neck that the Skins are supposedly interested in?
Was Demarcus Ware breathing down his neck? No. Everyone looks great when there's no pass rush. Oh..and how do you figure he's going to hold up with our shaky o-line? Sorry but I just can't invest in a 36 year old qb who sat out a year cause he had to have multiple neck procedures that sucked the life out of his arm. Too risky. Again, why can't we just go out and get our own guy? Build around him for the next 12-15 years...like all the other winning organizations do. |
re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
That video is inconclusive. Also, not ONCE during the presser did Manning say he's healthy.
Let's be real here, if Manning was even close to 100%, there's no presser today and the Colts are talking about Manning under center, Luck behind him, to start the season. |

They made it clear when they hired a new GM and head coach that they were cleaning house and moving on. Plus you don't draft a guy like Luck and sit him for 2-3 years. |

'Xactly. Once Dungy, Caldwell and Polian were gone, the owner effectively rid the team of all senior staff with any loyalty to Peyton Manning. |

Why does it have to be one or the other? What if it's Manning and Tannehill or Cousins, still feel the same way? Wouldn't that address going for it now while building for the next decade? |

re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
I think PM is going anywhere but the NFC EAST does not want to compete with his brother to make the playoffs. IMO he wouldn't mind playing him in the playoffs & SB but not the division.

PM is a competitor and will go where he feels the most comfortable playing, it doesnt matter what division. |
re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
Smoot,
Any chance that Manning signs with someone today?
I know you didn't ask me but I doubt it. He should make his rounds check out each facility and make his decision. Someone will give him the money he's looking for. What I wonder is how many teams already were in touch with the Agent and could there already be a deal in place with some team? say the Skins and an agreement to bring on board specific players he wanted to have brought here with him when FA starts? Only then would we see him sign something so quick. |
re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
I think anyone who thinks Peyton is scared of competing in the same division as his brother is crazy. If me and my brother both played quarterback in the NFL, I would relish the opportunity to play him twice a year in the same division. I would think most brothers feel the same way. Look at the way he acts. Does anybody think his competitive fire would hold him back from signing with us?

My point is Montana had the same surgery and took some serious hits and he did fine. They say every year several players have this surgery. I thought several had the same surgery last year and only PM was the one not playing. If there was any situation where the doctors felt his neck surgery put him in a postition to be paralized or break on a serious hit they wouldn't clear him. |
Interesting note by Rich Cimini that the Jets could save $9 million by cutting Sanchez this offseason (before March 28 I believe).
Anyhow, suppose he went to one of those other teams and suddenly Orton, Kolb, or Sanchez are on the market....who do you want?
Kolb. Although Orton is the (slightly) better player for 2012, I'd rather have Kolb. |
