Just cut him. This team needs to realize they made a mistake and just cut their losses. I don't understand what's the philosophy behind keeping him. You're not going to teach him a lesson, and the team has bigger issues to deal with. Just cut him, plain and simple, and at least this issue will be dead in the water.

All you've got to do is take off the dadgum leash and let me loose and you will see how great I am. ... I want to play football; that's what I want to do. Let me be great at it. Let me accomplish my goals. I want to be the best defense tackle to ever play this game."
This one got me as well. Your not the coach you don't get to dictate what kind of defense they run. He is incapable of understanding why people/teammates/coaches take issue with his attitude. And you can take all that effort talk and shove it Albert, I have seen too many plays you have taken off. Sit your happy ass over the Center, draw the double team and get to rush the passer when the game dictates it, not you. Then some of these minor things go away becuase you are part of the system not a selfish whiney punk. F off tubby, bye.
Well, Haynesworth just said on the radio that he's not showing up for his meeting with Shanahan tomorrow "I'm still heated over this"
I know it's his day off, but is that grounds for a suspension?

It amazes me how thick headed this guy is. He's just never going to get it.

You don't have a problem with cutting him and some team picking him up to make a playoff run. That would really get me to see him playing in the playoffs and maybe the SB after what he has done this year. If you don't think a team will snatch him up quick you better think again.

Honestly, what playoff bound team would want him? Not sure someone would want to roll the dice on his shitty attitude dragging you down if god forbid you don't bend over backwards for him.

I don't, because I don't care about him. And the team shouldn't, they need to fix their own problems, and he is a problem that the team doesn't need. What's the big freaking deal if he goes to another team? The team f*cked up when they got him, and now they should just cut their losses and get rid of him.

Imagine a co-worker of yours is purposely underperforming due to their unhappiness with their job, and yet they don't quit their job because of the great salary and benefits. Sure, that can be a distraction.

Eventually, management catches wind of the malcontent and, instead of firing him, they decide to move his desk into a broom closet, only bringing him out occasionally to help close a sale (with only mediocre results). While he's in the closet, he alternates between complaining and deliberately announcing how much fun he's having by NOT working. I bet that gets annoying.

Sure, you might work harder at the beginning, in order to prevent getting locked in a broom closet. Over time, though, you'll become preoccupied with management's weird refusal to do the obvious thing and fire the guy.

The answer is not to keep him locked in the closet, and it sure ain't bringing him back to the office full-time. The answer is to fire him.

End of metaphor. Although it's unlikely, I hope Haynesworth jumps on a playoff-bound team, averages 3 sacks a game, and singlehandedly wins a Super Bowl with his new team. Good luck and God bless. I hate the 3-4, too, so go find a 4-3 and thrive. **** it, go to the Giants and play for free. I have my own team to worry about.

I don't think Haynesworth's release would bring about any immediate improvements on the field. But that's fine. This team needs to focus on how they are playing and not management's vengeful handling of (re-starting metaphor) the whimpering malcontent in the broom closet.

You gotta release him. Kill the last vestige of the Cerrato era. Once the smoke clears, you can take an honest inventory of what you have left: a not-very-good football team. Then you start doing what you have to do to get better. It's obvious we can't play him anymore, so we're not getting anything for him now, and we're not getting anything for him later. I apologize if anybody else has already said this in the comments, but:

"What should be done eventually must be done immediately."

Matt Terl had a very good blog entry today, IMO:

Albert Haynesworth Talks About The Importance Of Adjusting
You could take it further -- you could point out that while Haynesworth pins his dissatisfaction this year on the 3-4 defense, he claimed at about this time last year that he couldn't "survive another season" in the 4-3 that the team was running at the time; you could point out that his happy memories of Jim Schwartz essentially focus on him disregarding a defensive system that Schwartz was "so excited" about; you could point out that he's essentially asking for ten other defensive players and the entire coaching staff to change just to accomodate him -- but it's all just re-emphasizing the same point.
I really recommend reading the whole thing it's well written and, while very Front Office oriented, I think very well thought out.

I'm just so tired of reading and talking about the guy. Not sure I've ever been more eager to see a guy go.

Are you serious? The Eagles or Giants could easily pick him up and he'd probably stay in line and be productive for those teams. The Giants made a play for him when he was a free agent. Can't just cut him loose.

I think sticking it to Mike Shanahan would be motivation enough for him to perform at a high level on a division rival. And a motivated AH is not something to scoff at.

Yeah I'm serious, the guy is a potential big problem in any locker room if things don't go his way. He's never stayed in line for anyone, even with the Titans he was an issue and a constant thorn in their side. This late in the season I'm not sure teams would be beating down his door and risk disrupting what they have going. Most likely a moot issue anyway, we're not going to give him what he wants.
