re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
Here is what a QB who actually played for MS thinks about Peyton to the Skins and particulary Peyton working with MS.

I think his take on Mike basically wanting a QB who can protect his judgement is spot on and epitimizes what Peyton can do for him. |

So part 1 of the RG3 leverage plan is looking good. Now for part 2. Getting Flynn to Cleveland instead of Seattle. |
re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
Manning isn't going somewhere that isn't committed to Peyton Manning. Trading up for RG3 would be, by definition, not committing to Peyton Manning.
I'm not even sure Manning would give the a-OK to draft Kirk Cousins in the second round. The guy who would back up Manning, in all likelihood, would be Rex Grossman.
Edit: Nevermind. |
Pick one of Wayne or Garcon, and let the other go. A case can be made for either, but not both. Wayne does have the U connection though. ;)
I guess I would take the younger one, but honestly there has to be better options out there. I for one am not going to pay a premium contract to Wayne and Garcon is often injured. |
My question is if we got Peyton could we afford VJax, a gaurd and others? Plus will we still go after RGIII?
Yes, Yes, Yes, ..... probably not but it would be cool. The Rams would have to waver on their offer, or he fall to the Vikes and we make them an offer. No way he goes past the Browns. I'm guessing PM, Saturday, Wayne, VJax, and from the draft Tannehill to learn from PM, and either RT, FS, or WR. |

You don't sign manning unless you Know he's healthy and think he will start and be productive a minimum of three more years. you don't sign manning unless you plan to put talent around him so that he can win in that timeframe. Doing so requires your first round picks in the next two drafts to be productive players from day one. You don't sign manning unless you Pretty much throw your west coast offense out the window to cater to his talents. So now that you have signed manning, explain to me how it would be anything but stupid to trade your draft picks to move up and acquire a qb you don't anticipate starting for Atleast 4 years... A quarterback who would be ideally suited to run the offense you had in 2010 and 2012, but is the antithesis of the quarterback you catered your 2012 offense for? Now, what you could do is sign manning to an Mcnabb-esque contract on steroids (really big numbers with no guaranteed money beyond this year), and then trade him Before the draft (and after he's proven his health) for extra ammo to get RG3. It would be devious... But brilliant if you could pull it off |
re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
No need to. He's in Durham, NC if I'm correct.
I thought over the weekend it was reported PM was in FL working on his throwing and with the latest news he's supposed to be in Indy for the official team press conference with The owner. So firing up Redskins 1 will most likely be in order. |
re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
Not saying that. I am saying that the offense that he's been in since he came into the league 14yrs ago, is not and does not resemble a west coast offense, if you want the Manning that you are used to it won't be the same guy. With that said does anyone think that for the 2yrs he would be here the shanny's would alter everything? Also, the Texans ran a similar version of shanny's west coast but they went over the top because of Andre Johnson, there is no Andre Johnson in Washington.
Now I'm confused? Are you an RGIII fan? Cause I said the very same thing about RGIII being brought in and would the coaching staff alter their game plan to bring out the best in RGIII and several here said of course the coaching staff would have to. So if they can alter for RGIII then they can alter for a HOFer. |

But will Manning call his own plays? Will Manning clash with Kyle Shanahan? Will Mike Shanahan incorporate the schemes/plays in the west coast offense that Manning called in the huddle and changed at the line of scrimmage in Indy? |
re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
Of course Manning will be Manning where ever he goes, he will be changing things at the line. He reads the Ds and makes changes. That is his game and what he excels at. If you read the article, MS would give the QB multiple plays to run out of a formation or he would allow the QB to make the play call change at the line after the QB has read the defense.
Kyle is the one who really wants PM, so I am sure he would be willing to do whatever it took to make it work. |

Manning will do just fine in the current offense with some small adjustments. |

Exactly, I think this line of thinking is really out of whack. Well if you bring in Manning you have to change everything and do what Manning wants to do. Really, really? I honestly do not think this is the case. The guy is smart and a great player, he will be able to do what ever he needs to do to win and I cannot think he is going to go into wherever he is and just say ok I am here. Here are your new playbooks. |
re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
Even though we knew this day was coming, it's just so strange to imagine the words Peyton Manning... free agent coming true.
