Re: The Too Soon 2021 NFL Draft Thread

One option I would explore is taking a look at CJ Beathard as a stop gap, if we have to draft in the 19th and up positions. He was a 3rd round pick by boy genius Shanarat and has gotten better over the years. He will be a FA this offseason, we can draft someone like Trask or Jones in the 2nd round and give him a year to develop.

Very interested to see how high both of these guys go. I feel like 19 is too high for either but also wouldn't be upset with either at 19 if we picked them.

I don't think either one will be around at our pick in the 2nd round.

Here's a list of 2021 QB prospects per Jordan Reid. Some interesting prospects:

In the Pos+ select QB to see only the QB's

Desmond Ridder could be an intriguing option that's growing on me, here are a couple of articles on him. We can watch him action on the Peach Bowl this Friday.

Ridder looks like he'd make sense if he's there in the 2nd. Definitely a project not an immediate starter and watching some of that film he has flaws that need correcting. But he does seem to carry himself well and appears coachable (unlike DH). Personally I'd like to see him step into his throws more (too much weight on his back foot) and look off the S more; an NFL S isn't going to let him lock on to his #1 target too man times before picking him off. He would be a good fit running ZR plays with Gibson/McKissick. Reminds me of Cam.

But do we want to take a chance on a project again? I think we really need a guy that can step in as soon as (like Herbert) not a guy we have to coach up for 1-2 years.

They're all projects, especially where this team will be picking. How long a project just depends on coaching, coachability, and work ethic. They're not going to get Lawrence or Fields, who might be the only two plug and play QBs coming out. Even that is not a sure thing.

I like this one of your three the best. Mainly because I like Jones waaaaaay more that Trask, who looked absolutely awful against an ok Oklahoma defense. I'm not sure either are the answer, but finding an NFL QB isn't easy.

I also think we won't spend high draft pick capital on a TE, given just how good Logan Thomas has shown the last part of this year.

Watch Desmond Ridder tomorrow in the Peach Bowl, if he does well his stock is gonna go up.

Yeah, these are big games for these guys. Kyle Trask laid an absolute egg, and basically got benched. That didn't help his stock any.

I want some combination of OT, WR, TE, and LB in the first three rounds. This team is ready to roll now. Sign a veteran QB, don't depend on a 1st rounder. You can pick up another DB, more LBs, and a project QB in the later parts of the draft.

Really good. Reset his feet before throwing on a scramble. Resulted in an awesome touchdown.
