Thanks and right, I should have said "as a post Jun 1st cut". I don't know why they are waiting, but it only benefits the player to be cut early since the cap relief doesn't start until Jun 1st but the player can find a new team sooner. Maybe they want him in the early ota's as an extra body. |
Re: WFT Free Agency
I won't be surprised at all if Collins is back. I think they like what he brings on and off the field. You can never have enough good safeties.
|
Re: WFT Free Agency
Collins should stay imo. Hed be 18.8M in dead cap vs his 2021 cap hit of 16.9. We would lose cap if we cut him.
Cutting him next year = 9.6 in dead cap (6.8M in savings). Collins is a plus player and locker room leader, just wish his cap hit was lower. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/washington-football-team/landon-collins-16757/ |
Re: WFT Free Agency
Plus, if we 'threaten' him with a post 1st June cut, he'd be in a bad position to find a new team with anything like the deal we offered at that point. Might be an incentive to get him to renegotiate his current deal?

True . . . but is he a good safety? Last year the only game i remember him playing well in was the game he got hurt in. The couple of years before that he was pedestrian at best. It has been 3 down years in a row since he had a good season. Due to usage? Or? |

Maybe he could be a solution at LB? He'd cover better than a typical LB. |

Looks like Sundberg won't be coming back

Re: WFT Free Agency
Looks like Nick Sundberg is on his way out. Really liked him.

Re: WFT Free Agency
What? He's damn near a legend. Must be because of all his years, the minimum is way higher than just picking a young guy off the street.

It is that you don't pay a very good but not elite SS who can't cover $15M+ in today's NFL. Smart move is to make sure Curl wasn't a one-year wonder, and we could be starting Curl and Collins, LOL, as we have nothing else at safety yet. Next year hopefully gone. |
Do not know much about Jackson. Just wondering why the Bengals didn't re sign him?
Does anyone really want to stay a Bengal? They're already on the hook for $20M+ with Waynes and one other guy, I believe. |
Re: A Few Observations
1. Collins will be cut after June 1st, saving 8M in cap -agree that was a horrible signing.
2. Build and pay the trenches. That is a winning strategy. Our DL is 38M which is less than half the league. 3. Hmmm. Do you still want to throw in SF. 49ers make Trent Williams highest-paid OL with 6-year, $138M deal https://www.thescore.com/nfl/news/2135480 Stud players (Scherff and TW are both studs) cost. - and as for positional spending our QB room is 17th even with Fitzpatrick. Which affords us considerable cap space relative to the rest of the league. Bring in a rookie, have a good competion and sort out who is best short term and long term. If none are then you rinse and repeat next year. We are 15th in defense spending and 19th in offense spending. In other words the FO is building a balanced team. Maybe one position is a little high or a little low but I think it shows they have a comprehensive plan for a long term success. Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk
I doubt the Williams deal is truly for 6 years when you look at numbers, probably more like a 3 year deal. As i said, I don't like going old, but Williams is a stud. Almost certainly a HOFer. I threw SF in assuming they would resign Williams. :-) Not so sure Collins gets cut. Huge cap hit, Curl only shined one year. I think he's gone year after, but who knows. Some good observations, I agree about trenches. Bring in 2 rookies and never sign Fitz unless less than $5M. |

Curl could Sophomore slump. Nothing wrong with a little insurance when cap hit so massive. Splitting it over 2 years doesn't change fact that $18M cap hit massive. You keep him one more year, and then the contract essentially autovoids with $10M dead cap. Allen and THE DAN. What Clowns. Between Smith and Collins, $40M+ in either dead cap or guys you pay wayyyyyyyyy too much. Crazy to think year 3 or 4 or RR's tenure before free of horrible decisions of past. Case study in why our judicious approach to FA is so smart. |
Re: WFT Free Agency
My only issue/concern so far is letting KPL go (he signed in Houston 2yrs 3,5M/yr) and not bringing in any LBs. We are beyond thin at that position. Christian Kirksey signing 1yr 4,5M tells me you can sign quality ILBs at decent prices, but I will be worried until we actually sign one...
