Not unless he can replace him with a big splash like Watson
Alex Smith's success is directly related to a defense that shut down some opponents. AS a QB, Smith did nothing other than throw short dump off passes except for an occasional deep throw to McLaurin. I do not belive there is a single team in this league that would have any interest in him. His comeback was a great story. But it is time to read the last page where it says "The End".
AS won games in both stints as our qb with teams that collectively the games where he did not play. I don't know what AS has left in him, but i don't see the incessant need by some to belittle the success we had with him as qb. The leg injury sucked for him and us, but he had all the skills to lead a team and win games. I hope he finds peace after football because it clearly is one of his anchors that he can't let go.

Yeah, that is what I was thinking. That's probably his best bet if they'll have him. The jury is still out though as to whether anyone is going to want him after seeing how he regressed down the stretch last year. If Urban won't take him, I think he has to realize it's over.

I'm starting to think Dak is done in Dallas; maybe not this year, but definitely after the 2021 season. I don't see them taking a risk and giving him a huge long term deal after that injury. No one knows if he's going to be the same guy. If they keep him (and they probably have no choice) it will likely be with the franchise tag, and then my bet is Dak says 'peace out' next year.

Dallas needs their draft picks to rebuild that defense. I could be wrong, but I don't see them giving up a bunch of picks to move up, or to get Watson.

I don't think the injury is a long term concern. All reports I've seen say his rehab is going very well. If Alex made it back no reason why Dak can't with a much less complicated injury. We'll see of course but I don't think it will be an issue.

Yeah, I'm sure he'll be back. I just don't know if Dallas will be willing to go all in on him before they see if he's the same guy on the field. They might, but it's a risk.

Interesting stat

Over the last 20 years the Colts have had a 1st round pick (2 of those being the #1 overall pick) start at QB for 17 of those 20 years.

They have 1 Super bowl to show for it.

Wentz will be the 4th 1st round pick the Colts will start at QB since 2000.

That's nuts

Alex Smith was broken last year. It got to the point where he couldn't move two feet in the pocket without falling down. I don't know that anyone is incessantly belittling the success WFT had in his starts. I think people are just pointing out that the team won in spite of his presence on the field. Those wins were championed by the defense, coupled with just playing bad teams with mostly backup QBs. I think a healthy Kyle Allen or Heinicke could have had this team on the same run or better.

Love Alex Smith, but he was not the same Alex Smith, and after that injury it's a little self-centered for him to think this new coaching staff owed him the opportunity to see if he could play football again.

I doubt Watson would agree to go to Dallas. Although they have offensive weapons (Amari, Zeke), they have no offensive line and their defense sucks. Plus they have no cap space to absorb Watson's contract.
