You just described Tom Brady out of college too.
I think SF wants Mac Jones.
Accurate as all hell. But isn't amazingly athletic or doesn't blow you away with a huge arm. Like Matt Ryan. Or Kirk Cousins. Two QB's Shanahan loved. Settling in at 3 should guarantee them Jones, as all the pre-draft buzz has him nowhere near the top of the draft.
More and more buzz about 49ers and Jones. Shanahan and crew heading to Bama for their pro day tomorrow. Could be a huge smoke screen .... or maybe not. https://clutchpoints.com/49ers-news-kyle-shanahan-reveals-why-hes-going-mac-jones-alabama-pro-day/ It should probably be said Shanahan is alluding to the 49ers not wanting other teams to be readily aware they were trying to move up way up the board before their blockbuster trade was done. Either way, there appears to be a growing amount of buzz regarding the potential for the 49ers to make Jones the third overall pick. Chris Simms of NBC Sports suggested Jones could be an ideal fit for Shanahan’s system in San Francisco: https://twitter.com/CSimmsQB/status/1376512165839052804?s=20 |

Personally Id take Mac if he falls to us, but I won’t be upset if he doesn’t. You just never know until you know. Regardless of what the scouts say. Some people have it and some do not. Such a crap shoot. |

Ill help him pack. |
Re: NFL Free Agency Around the League
I never had a problem with him. He did his job as a blocking TE.
I actually saw him make a 4-yard catch in a game I went to, a rare occurrence. :D
Good, don't want to see another year of him dropping easy catches
To be fair, Haskins was throwing a lot of those passes. That hurt everyone's catch %. |
Re: NFL Free Agency Around the League
Sprinkle should have just put on 50 lbs in college and been a tackle.
|
Re: NFL Free Agency Around the League
No way did the 49ers trade up to 3 to take Jones. They're either taking Wilson or Fields.
|
Re: NFL Free Agency Around the League
Per walking human turd Mike Florio...NFL is planning to move the SuperBowl to President day weekend now with the 17 game schedule. This would be a longtime coming imo

Re: NFL Free Agency Around the League
So the league sits there and talks about safety first and then adds an extra games. What a bunch of liars.

Took away a preseason game at least. Probably won't be long until it's 18 regular season and just 2 preseason. All about the $$. Why do fans care anyway? More meaningful football is a good thing.
|
Re: NFL Free Agency Around the League
I think they should have added an extra bye week and the 17 game should be at a neutral site.
|
Re: NFL Free Agency Around the League
For some reason an odd # of games bugs me.

Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk
We all know taking away a preseason game and adding a regular season game is 100% not the same. Its just we were fed all this safety stuff yet they add in a game and continue the Thursday game. NFL is too watered down. More games and more teams in the playoffs does not mean a better product. |

It's OK, the coaches will still be wearing a piece of cloth on their chins. That makes everyone safe. |
Re: NFL Free Agency Around the League
It's still only 20 games total, and it was already collectively bargained.

Maybe not ... unless he's their guy. If so, then why not? Interesting stuff here: https://twitter.com/danorlovsky7/status/1376930766765035520?s=20 |
Re: NFL Free Agency Around the League
A LOT of talking heads out there linking Mac Jones to SF after that trade. It's certainly possible, but I'm not sure I buy it. I don't buy much of anything this time of year...it's all smoke and mirrors between now and the draft.
|
Re: NFL Free Agency Around the League
If they used all that capital for Jones then they better hope he pans out. I doubt that they did though. He could have been had at 6 just by trading directly with the eagles. No need to jump to 3.

Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk
Maybe ... but you aren't saving a ton of draft capital in a trade to move to just 6. You're still giving up a butt load of picks. So why risk just going to #6? You may as well go all the way to 3, and dare one of the top 2 picks to draft Jones. This could all be smoke. But the way Shanahan has talked after pulling off the trade, and the similarities between Jones and Matt Ryan and Kirk Cousins ... it certainly "fits". It's not a gamble I would make. But I'm not sold on any of these QB's after Trevor Lawrence. (I'm also a benefits specialist. So what da fuq do I know? haha). |

Yep. Plenty of examples of jumping up to the top 3 for a QB - and he doesn't pan out. I think I saw something the other day that out of the last six or seven QBs that were taken after a team traded into the top 3 to get him, only one is still on his original team (for now) - Sam Darnold |

I don't know stats, but I think if you look at the past 10 drafts and the first non-qb picked your chance of an elite player skyrockets.

Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk
Problem is you don't keep your job trading the farm for non-QBs. Cerrato would have taken a replacement for our long snapper with the #3 pick. LOL. |

Watson is probably paying all the accusers to come forward. :-))
He wants out of Houston that bad. Or you could argue he has to play now to settle all the lawsuits. LOL. |

So now they are either taking the 3rd Qb (assuming 1 and 2 are qbs) or at best the 2nd best non-qb player. Dumb trade no matter who they take. Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk |

Re: NFL Free Agency Around the League
There are plenty of players who have spoken out against playing 17 games.
But they, as a union, agreed to it because of the increased percentage of revenue. I find it more hypocritical on the players part then the owners.
When you say "plenty", there about 1800 active players, i doubt 10% of them have complained, and I certainly don't see anyone refusing the salary cap increase that will come as a part of it. Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk |

17 games is a non issue |

Another thing to consider here is, the Jets coach just left the 49ers...so probably safe to say that Kyle knows what that pick is going to be...maybe they're not taking Wilson and Kyle knows he will get him at 3. |
