My FedEx Experience - What a great day!
Hail all you Warpathers!!!
I just got back to Calgary from my weekend in DC and what an amazing time. I will not bore you with the details of the rest of the trip (sightseeing, Caps game etc..), and just tell you about my FedEx experience. We got to the game 3.5 hours early and walked through the parking lot checking out the tailgaters and my brother was harrassed on a constant basis, which I was totally loving. We grab a beer and walked around taking pictures etc, then headed into the stadium. Of course I had to go the Redskins Store and spent over a $130 in the store, picking up things I can not get here. Then we wanted to see the field so we headed down for warm ups. Got to see the players stretching and warming up and met three guys from Saskatchewan (right beside my Province). One was a huge Skins fan the other was a Falcons fan and the last was an Eagles fan. These guy drove 33 hours to be at the game and told us they were going to the Monday nighter so that all three of them could see their favorite teams play. As we were chatting with them, this guy who was on the field yelled up the the Saskatchewan Redskins fan, and handed him a field pass. He proceeded to head down to field level and check out things on the actual grass of FedEx. He came back and gave me the field pass so I could experience the same thing. I was actually on the same field my favorite team plays on. I walked around taking pictures, got a great one of the endzone, got a few of me on the field from the stands. I got a picture so close of Gregg Williams I could have shaken his hand (he was busy talking with people so did not want to interrupt. I also got a picture of me right beside the goal post. I was on the field for probably 15 minutes, it was an experience I am never going to forget. You could not wipe the smile from face even today as I think back to it. We went back to our seats and found out that Danny boy was basically right behind us, so I got a picture of him. Also went down to the front row and a section over to get a picture of me with a Hogette. Most of the fans were super nice and to us with the exception of these two guys who were really being rude to my brother. They turned what was a Redskins/Falcon chat into an American/Canadian arguement which kind of started to get ugly. In fact people below us finally went up to security to have the kicked out, but they got to stay and became better after that. The people behind us we fantastic, they realized that at the end of the day this is just a game and could see the excitement in our eyes for the fact of just being there. I was so happy to be able to hear "Hail to the Redskins" after our two touchdowns, I was singing at the top of my lungs. After the game we walked around and tried to get pictures of players leaving, could not get a lot of pictures with the Skins as security was really quick to put you behind the barracades, but my brother was able to get his picture with Jimmy Williams, Warrick Dunn, D. Hall and Rod Coleman. These guys just came out and met the fans, and took time to sign autographs etc. Vick just walked right by us as he was getting mobbed. Anyway, for any of you that have not gone to a game, I would recommend it as it was one of the greatest experiences of my life. I know the Skins lost and it bothered me to have another lost, but at the end of the day, this for me was all about watching my favourite football team play live, and soak up the atmosphere that is FedEx with one of the greatest guys I know (My Brother). It is something I will cherish for a lifetime and now want to plan another trip there to catch another game one day. But first we will be heading to Atlanta in a couple years to see the Skins play in the Georgia Dome. HAIL TO THE REDSKINS!!!! AND HAIL TO ALL THE REDSKINS FANS ALL OVER THE WORLD!!!! Thank you to everyone that helped me with information. I did not end up meeting anyone that was on the Warpath but did talk about it to many. You guy and gals are great |
Re: My FedEx Experience - What a great day!
Great to hear you had a blast

Re: My FedEx Experience - What a great day!
That's so sweet that you got to go down on the field.

Re: My FedEx Experience - What a great day!
Sounds like you had a great time. Too bad they didn't win for you!
|
Re: My FedEx Experience - What a great day!
Awesome story! Sounds like you guys had a good trip.

Re: My FedEx Experience - What a great day!
That's so cool! Some of my buddies (who got their season tickets about 5 years ago) and I go all the time and I feel like we've started to take it for granted a little bit. I miss that feel of walking in there being pretty much overwhelmed by what I'm seeing and hearing.
I wish the outcome had been better for you but I'm glad to hear you had such a great time. |

I'm glad you had a great time! I wish I could say I've walked on the turf at FedEx.

Re: My FedEx Experience - What a great day!

Yeah, all the times I have been to Fed Ex I have never been offered a field pass. You are a very lucky man.

Re: My FedEx Experience - What a great day!
We were in Section 102 row 24 seats 13 & 14. We had some great people around us.
I know how lucky I am to have a chance to get on the field, I was blown away to be standing there. One guy next to me wanted to touch my feet cause they touched FedEx.. lol. |

I watch a little CFL on Comcast Sports Net once in a while. I like to watch the two men in motion and all of the passing. |
Re: My FedEx Experience - What a great day!
Hey, Im glad you had an awesome time. I remember my first time back when we played the bears, martyball & tony banks, we lost that game, but it didnt take away from the feeling. Ive been to 5-6 games since, including last years cowgirls ass whooping, and still i remember more from that first game than any other.

A CFL fan in the States? that is cool. I do watch Stamps games as well. Been to lots of them. It is pretty good football, but NFL is my first love. I have been a Skins fan since I was like 7 years old. This was my second Skins game, I drove to Seattle a few years back to watch them play, they won that game, but nothing will compare to this game. |

I kind of got into it when Baltimore had a CFL team several years ago. It is good football. I was watching a CFL game a few weeks ago and was shocked to see all the former NFL/NCAA players. Robert Edwards ( a former NE Pats RB ) who tore his knee up real bad was balling in the CFL. Now that is cool. But I can't imagine playing when it gets cold. UNBEARABLE. |
Re: My FedEx Experience - What a great day!
Thanx Canadian Skin! I needed that!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: My FedEx Experience - What a great day!
There's still nothing like going to a redskins game, it's great to see the guys you idolize in person. And of course the parking lot is a good time. Maybe AA can go play in the CFL haha.

Re: My FedEx Experience - What a great day!
Here are some of the pics from the trip. Enjoy. I had to put the pic of my bro with D.Hall, he was able to get lots of pics with players and I was not able to get any which kind of sucked.

Just changed the title.

I think only a mod can change the actual title.

Oh okay. Well I just wanted everyone who was asking for the pics that they are now up... Hope everyone likes them.

Re: My FedEx Experience - What a great day!
The pix from the field are incredible. I've never tried going down to the lower bowl pregame, but I might have to cut short the tailgating for the Gyant's game and see if I can't get the wifey to finagle a field pass!

That would be sweet. It was an experience I will never forget. What does the wifey do that she would be able to finagle a field pass? |
Re: My FedEx Experience - What a great day!
Oh, nothing. People tend to like her, though. Well, more than they like me, anyway, which may not be saying too much.

I forgot about the CFL's Baltimore Stallions (would've been Colts except for a lawsuit and they almost just spelled the name "Kolts", which would've been retarded.) |

Not trying to thread hijack but mentioning the Stallions brings back some memories for me. They played at the old (now demolished) Memorial Stadium which was literally across the street from my old house. I'd sit on my porch and BBQ and "tailgate" until game time and then walk across the street and pick up a ticket. Sometimes, I'd just hangout until half-time then walk over and see the second half free. It was a blast. (FYI - Alvin Walton was their safety and still wore that big-ass neck brace). http://rso.smugmug.com/photos/18842857-L.jpg If you look at the picture above you see some white houses in centerfield. Mine was on the same street pretty much behind the big Toyota sign. |
Re: My FedEx Experience - What a great day!
This is one of my favorite threads on this site these days. Amidst all the "Redskins suck, my world is over" threads it's refreshing to read about a fan who has travelled so many miles to experience his favorite team and an entire day of football live and in person.
Granted, I'm sure he would have preferred a Redskins victory but often times it's just about the total experience of being at a game. This thread makes the bad guy smile :) |

I must admit that the threads of how we are doing bad have become the norm, I am happy I can still make people smile with this and realize it was just a game. I wanted a Redskins victory in the worse way (more so because my bro and I had a bet that the loser had to wear the winners jersey on the first day of our annual week long golf trip. It will be the first time I have to wear a Falcons jersey, while my brother has twice worn a Redskins jersey, but that is okay) I still have a huge smile on my face when I tell people about my trip, it was a long weekend as you can tell by the bag under my eyes, lol, but it was worth the lack of sleep to be able to sing "HAIL TO THE REDSKINS" with 90,000 other faithful fans, while watching my brother hang his head in shame. At the end of the day it about the experience of being there and feeling like I was part of the atmosphere and to see it live was amazing. I get upset just like the rest of you when we lose, in fact I broke my mothers couch a few years back when the Cowboys beat us in the last seconds, so I am a huge die hard fan, but we have to remember that only one team gets to claim to be world champs for a year, and even though this will not be our year, we can always look forward to next year. I think JC will bring home our 4th Super Bowl very shortly. Thanks for all the great responses everyone, and I was not drunk but then again I am Canadian and our beer is a tad stronger then yours so it would have taken me a lot... lol. We did have two beers before every quarter and a few before the game as well. HAIL |
Re: My FedEx Experience - What a great day!
Good work CS. Like Tafkas, I really have enjoyed this thread for the positive influence.
