Ryan Clark has lost starting job in Pittsburgh
The Tribune Democrat, Johnstown, PA - Steelers will start rookie at safety
If they were to let him go do you think we'd be interested? Would he be willing to come back? |
Re: Ryan Clark has lost starting job in Pittsburgh
[SARCASM] Kind of hard to believe that the one of the greatest defensive players that Greg Williams ever let go is going to ride the pines.[/SARCASM]
If he can get ST to play like last year then we should pursue him. Hire him as a Big Buddy volunteer or something. |
Re: Ryan Clark has lost starting job in Pittsburgh
Archuletta for Clark. Done deal.
|
Re: Ryan Clark has lost starting job in Pittsburgh
NOOOOOOOOOOO, not Archuletta!!!!!!! He'll become a, a, a, SUPERSTAR
|
Re: Ryan Clark has lost starting job in Pittsburgh
It sounds as though the Steelers have just been waiting for the right opportunity to get A. Smith into the lineup. A player dosen't usually lose his starting job because of injury espically when he's healthy enough to return. It looks as though Clark will have to play his way back onto the field.

Re: Ryan Clark has lost starting job in Pittsburgh
I certainly believe it would help us to have Clark back! Either way, I don't look for a repeat performance of our defense next year!
|
Re: Ryan Clark has lost starting job in Pittsburgh
What is his contract for with the Pittsburg? Canuck?
Is he likely to be released or just kept as high quality backup? |
Re: Ryan Clark has lost starting job in Pittsburgh
Maybe the Steelers cut him, or perhaps since he appears (according to the article) to be a good influence on their young safety, the Steelers will decide that keeping a solid young veteran player who improves the overalll play of your team is worth paying just a little extra for.
Naw... that's just silly. |
Re: Ryan Clark has lost starting job in Pittsburgh
I would bring him back, I think that would not only help our defensive backfield but S.T.'s play would improve as well. I'm not sure if he's gonna get released or not though.

Re: Ryan Clark has lost starting job in Pittsburgh
Hmmm, we could re sign/hire him as a player-coach. His title would be Assistant-Associate-Def.Backs-Safetys Coach/ Coordinator and V.P. of Sean Taylors progression and placement for impact of beheadings.

Re: Ryan Clark has lost starting job in Pittsburgh
i would bring him back in a new york minute. but all the big egos couldn't do that, for that would be admitting a mistake
|
Re: Ryan Clark has lost starting job in Pittsburgh
Letting Clark go did not cripple the team. It certainly didn't help but he isn't Ronnie Lott. I heard an analyst say something that makes a lot of sense. When a secondary is struggling, the first place he looks is the defensive line. Lack of pressure from the front seven is a big reason why the secondary has looked so poor.
I would rather have Vincent than Clark. Vincent is more skilled. |
Re: Ryan Clark has lost starting job in Pittsburgh
Vincent is also 36487 years old. for some reason, Clark just was a good fit for this defense. and no, he wouldn't be confused for Lott, but was very productive here on a pretty good defense

Re: Ryan Clark has lost starting job in Pittsburgh
and other than the blocked kick against dallas, vincent hasnt done anything other then get torched
|

Who hasn't been torched in our secondary? One of the things that everyone said about Clark was that he brought intangibles to the locker room. Vincent does the same thing. Plus, Vincent was picked up in the middle of the season, he would improve with some extra time. |
Re: Ryan Clark has lost starting job in Pittsburgh
If we hadn't let Clark go in the first place we would be 11-2 right now.
I don't really think that; but it seems like many people on this board do, seeing as how so many members are wont to link our defensive struggles to Clark's absence (as opposed to with the horrid performances of the players who are still here). This is a defense whose issues go far deeper than the loss of a mediocre safety. |
Re: Ryan Clark has lost starting job in Pittsburgh
Well according to Carlos Rogers its the pass rush that is the problem. Hehehehe.
|
Re: Ryan Clark has lost starting job in Pittsburgh
I don't believe people are necessarily saying that adding Ryan Clark back in would be the answer to our defense's problems. However, I think the little things that he did to contribute last year to our defense could've been used this year!

Re: Ryan Clark has lost starting job in Pittsburgh
I would love to put Clark and Smoot back in our secondary next year.

Re: Ryan Clark has lost starting job in Pittsburgh
It's wishful thinking, but didn't Clark sign a long term deal with the Steelers? Meaning he will not be cut, but have to accept his new role as a backup. So we would need to trade for him, and we don't have anything they would want other than a draft pick. So are we willing to give up a 1st or 2nd rounder for him...no.

But see that is where you are wrong, the Skins are always willing to give up first rounders.... |

Sad, but true. I hope we don't make that mistake again. |

Some are always more than ready to heap a great deal of praise on players who sometimes have a few good games, or maybe one good season. I believe in reserving evaluation of a player until he has proven over a period of time, on a sustained basis that he's NFL caliber. The way our defense played this year, I don't think any one player would have made that much of a difference. While I believe in giving credit where it's due, Clark did have his moments last year, but there were doubts about him being a long term solution. Of all the players that have departed over the last few years and gone to other teams, I can only think of two that are playing at a reasonably high level with their new team, and that's Champ Bailey, and Antonio Pierce. |

What about defensive player of the new millennium Walt Harris? |

Walt is an age, and injury factor. He's a typical example of what I'm talking about. He's had a few games where he has excelled, but how good has he been on a sustained basis? |
