Best Offseason
I think the Redskins had the best offseason in the league! They attacked every weakness they believed to be important. Lost only one player who made any sort of contribution. Established depth at every position on the team. Who has 5 CB's as good as the skins? Who has the safety depth we have? Who has the RB depth we have? Who has the LB depth we have? Who has the oline depth we have? Dare I say it, we actually have some QB depth. The only place I see any depth issues is DE and DT, but we still have 3 quality DE's and we have only have two quality DT's. We have some other DT's Salavea and Montgomery that could provide quality depth and a few DE's that may provide some in Demetric Evans and this guy Hickman.
I honestly do not see a hole on this team at all. Our starting 22, is as good as anyones in the entire NFL. We have the coaches and their systems in place. This is going to be our year. We are going to wear teams down with Portis & Betts, beat them over the top with Moss and in the middle with Cooley. We are going to stuff the run with Fletcher, stop the pass with a healthy Springs, Rogers, and Taylor and showdow any playmaker with Landry. As well as blitz from every direction imagible. Plus everyone is sleeping on us. Am I the only one who sees this? Why don't we start looking at the good of this team instead of nitpicking? |

They got Randy Moss for a 4th round pick! On top of getting Dante Stallworth, Adalius Thomas, Wes Welker, they are stacked at the reciever position not to mention the fact that they got their safety in Merriweather, and with their second 1st round pick they traded out to get an additional 1st round pick for next year. By far the New England Pats had the best off-season. |

I agree with the Skins assessment. Absolutely no attention to an aging oft injured D-line, after a season which clearly showed a lack of pass rush and ability to stop the run. Personally, I think the 49ers had the best off season and I look for them to go into the playoffs this year. |

The 49ers dont have a snowballs chance in hell of making the playoffs. Sorry for putting that but I really think they are overrated. |
Re: Best Offseason
kind of ironic; skinsfan242 talks about depth & overall low-key signings, and his post is followed by kudos for Pats & Niners, both of whom did what synder has made the skins known for; bought big name/big $ free agents.
I don't know if we had the best offseason, but I think we did pretty well. WE can debate the d-line situation, but we do have some youth there if they pan out; Carter, Golston, Montgomery, plus solid vets when healthy. It's kind of funny that media & fans seem to applaud big offseasons like the Pats just had, yet are quick to say you can't buy a team in free agency & must build through the draft. I know, Bellicheck is the difference, but he hasn't had this many big names come in at 1 time, it will be a challenge for them to develop chemistry & live up to expectations. |
Re: Best Offseason
As Skins fans you should know that grabbing the headlines does not equal the best offseason. Granted the Pats are the Pats but they have never had an offseason like this so who knows how it will turn out. The 49ers won't be any better than last year.
|
Re: Best Offseason
The 49ers have Frank Gore who rushed for nearly 1700 yards, and a revamped Defense which includes Patrick Willis and Nate Clements. They were 7-9 last year. Two more wins gets them into the playoffs.

Would you have said that had the Skins got those same players? The Skins make a big splash, BOOM, we overpay. The Patriots do the same and instantly they have the best offseason. I'm with who said the 49ers. They made some GREAT draft picks and some great FA acquisitions. |

wont happen walt harris had a fluke year last year and i dont see frank gore running for 1700 yards again they will be 6-10 again |
Re: Best Offseason
The reason the Skins get bashed or laughed at for making a big splash in the past freeagent markets has nothing to do with the media bashing the Skins. It has to do with all the money that has been spent, all the big names signed, etc.. and nothing except a 2005 playoff win to show for it. Until we can put the wins on the board to show that our spending is working then thats the way it will be.

Yes I would because if you look at the contracts they gave out donte stallworth doesnt get that money until he perfoms his contract is one year unless he meets the incentives and Adalius Thomas is the real player who got that big contract for them wes welker was a great pick up and they got tory james from the bengals. they have had the best season. Not to mention they got Randy Moss for a 4th round pick, 4th round!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Friendly 6 pack wager Quake? Im willing to bet ya a 6 pack of your choice (of course its within reason, Im not going to buy you a 6 pack from Germany that costs $100.00). I think the 49ers make the playoffs. And before 100 people post "I'll take that action" this is a friendly wager offer for Quake only. |
Re: Best Offseason
Hindsight aside then, would you have said the 2000 Redskins had the best offseason?
|
Re: Best Offseason
our off season was decent. but without addressing our defensive line issues, how can you say the best off season in the league? and i wouldn't give moss too much credit just yet. he basically has taken the last 2 seasons off. and he isn't getting any younger. i just thank god he wasn't brought here

Re: Best Offseason
I would say, we had a VERY GOOD off-season! No major splash, for a change. Just adressed EXACTLY the areas of most concern.
I also, think we are going into 07 in really GOOD shape! |

Re: Best Offseason
I liked what the Skins did this offseason but was it the best in the entire league? I don't think so, but then again the ultimate judgement can only be made after this season is over and done and the results speak for themselves.
On paper I like what the Patriots did. |

I got banned off of the steelers one. But the Redskins are allergic to band wagon riders |
Re: Best Offseason
I think the offseason was a productive one around Redskin Park. Certainly they addressed the needs in the defensive backfield and we have good depth at the RB position which we all know is critical in a Gibbs team.
We shall find out in about 75-80 days my friends! Hail! |
Re: Best Offseason
Who had the best offseason will be determined when the wins and losses are added up. Every year on paper, we are offseason champs, but unfortunately for us, paper does not win games. All offseason moves must play out on the field, and I'll reserve judgement until such time.
I do however, admire the origional poster's optimism despite the fact I felt we should have done more to boost the DL. Maybe we will play well enough overall to overcome that deficiency, and the failure to address will not be a hinderance. |

I honestly do not see a hole on this team at all. Our starting 22, is as good as anyones in the entire NFL. We have the coaches and their systems in place. This is going to be our year. We are going to wear teams down with Portis & Betts, beat them over the top with Moss and in the middle with Cooley. We were last in sacks last year. This is going to be a problem. GW is going to try and live by the blitz. It may work some weeks but at some point you have to get pressure with your lineman. The offense may have to carry us. |
Re: Best Offseason
I firmly beleive that Cleveland had the best offseason...they set themselves up for a great future. Sure they may only be 7-9 or 8-8 at best this year, but they will be very tough to beat in a few years.
|
Re: Best Offseason
We didn't have the best offseason, but we had a real good one. We were able to address needs without overpaying anyone. We have pretty much the same team as last year. We've gained London Fletcher who is already familiar with the system and can be a great leader. We have Laron Landry, Fred Smoot, David Macklin and J. Butler in the defensive backfield.
When the Skins make a big offensive splash, its a problem, and when they don't its a problem. They're never going to be able to please everybody, but to me what was done this offseason is what best improves team chemistry thereby improving the team |
Re: Best Offseason
Hands down NE had the best offseason.

I also, think we are going into 07 in really GOOD shape![/quote] Ditto. Last year, our biggest problem was the secondary. Now we have the deepest secondary (with quality backups out the wazoo). Also, our draft went very well...Landry will make an impact and he was the best defensive player available when we picked, plus we picked up a couple of good LBs who could've been drafted much higher. Let's also not forget about Campbell's work and dedication to be better in the offseason...I bet he's going to have a big year. |

Let's wait and see which Randy shows up before saying that. He can singlehandedly rip that locker room apart. |
Re: Best Offseason
If Moss does cause problems, Belichick can cut him. . . . The genius of Belichick/Pioli is that all of their offseason signing brought minimal risk to the team. Moss can get cut at any time with no financial penalty for the Pats. Stallworth has the equivalent of a 1 year, $3M contract. The only "big money" signing was Adalius Thomas, a perfect fit for the Pats' defensive system.
Big contrast with the moron twins (Snyder and Cerrato). But, then again, that's why the Pats are perennial winners, and Washington is not. |

I like the fact that we were not headlining the offseason, which we typically do. Lets see if the solid improvements we made produce post season results, instead of preseason championships.

Re: Best Offseason
If you look at the world through burgandy and gold colored glases, then the Skins had the best offseason in the league - - and maybe in the history of all of football too. Except maybe for that great offseason when they signed Deion Sanders ...
Otherwise you have to appreciate what the Patriots did this year; and you have to appreciate what the Broncos did this year; and you have to appreciate what the Eagles did this year. And if one were to take off the burgandy and rose colored glasses for just a brief moment and look at those three teams, you'd also notice that they are starting from a far higher level of achievement than the Redskins are. I think that the Redskins did a whole lot better in the 06/07 offseason than they did in previous ones - - particularly the highly hyped but hugely disappointing 05/06 offseason. But the Skins didn't do the "best in the league". And there are still "areas of concern" on this roster. And the Skins are not shoo-ins to make it to the Super Bowl in 2008. If you believe they are shoo-ins for the Super Bowl as the NFC representative, go and bet the mortgage money on that proposition in Las Vegas right now. You can get 20-1 at the moment that the Skins will be in the Super Bowl game - - not that they'll win it but they'll be there. Put a cool 50K on that prop and you'll be a millionaire in less than a year... Or not. I'll not make that wager just yet. I'll wait to see what the "product" looks like on the field for the first 4-6 games. But if you REALLY think there are no weak spots on this roster, go for it. And Mazel Tov!! |
