"Coach Joe is on the Warpath!"

Redskins Insider

Did you think this meant our Warpath?
Well, for all I know he could be reading this, but it's a quote from JLC's Skins Insider.

Sounds great! Gibbs needs to get mad. I hope the players take him as seriously as his players did in Gibbs I.

I'm glad to see him fired up! Sounds like maybe he's ready to call whatever plays it takes to win!

GO SKINS!

Nice...that's what i want to hear. Sounds like the 80's, 90's Gibbs. Bring on the Lions.

good to hear. I look forward to seeing that on redskins.com. Wonder if they'll put it up?

I'm glad he's upset, he should be. He knows we should be better than this, and maybe this will be a fire that lights our asses up!

Re: "Coach Joe is on the Warpath!"

It's about time to light some fire under these over paid premo's! I hope he reverts back to the old days and breaks some chalkboards and throws some chairs. Maybe these players will respond, maybe they won't but at least he is going to go out swinging souls!

JWsleep 10-05-2007 02:32 PM

Re: "Coach Joe is on the Warpath!"

Plus, he's no doubt getting more and more pissed at the media--nit-picky things about Portis, the giants game fallout, etc. Bout time the man put his foot down.

Anyone who brings up that 0-20 stat is just begging to get the full treatment from Gibbs.

Gibbs is not the guy to throw stuff and break thing it just not in him now or in his past.

yeah, cause he's been kind of ambivalent about this whole winning games thing. Trying to call plays to lose. yeah. that sounds right.

Awesome Coach Joe! Good to know there's still some fire in the belly and players 'fighting their guts out & being super smart' isn't enough to placate him. Hopefully this will stoke the flames to get the old school, aggressive want to kick your ass Joe back on the sidelines rather than grandpa!

Can't remember the game, but back in the day there was a story told by many old players & media that during halftime of a game he knocked over a table of gatorade & juice & lit into the team. They were behind but won that game.

He's not one to show anger & call people out, but he also knows when he has to to get results. Hopefully, it works this week.

I just hate to say it cause it's already been said, but that last drive wasn't as much about effort as play calling IMO. Nonetheless, the team lacked fire in the 2nd half & Gibbs & co. need to find a way to close games like that before it comes down to a last minute drive.

FYI The interview is up on Washington Redskins
He's pretty fired up throughout, but you can tell he's REALLY fired up over that last "run the ball 70% of the time" question.

I'd love to see him have a chat on thewarpath and take questions from a few of our finest regarding what a horrible playcaller he is.

Oh I beg to differ my friend. Joe in his first tenure was a madman in the locker room at half time. It has been documented by players that Joe used to light some people up in the locker room at half time when things weren't going well.

You don't win championships by not motivating your players. I can bet on more than several occassions he has punched a chalkboard to fire his guys up.

Yup, reading that fires me up and firing up the media and fans is fun -but hopefully this was just a peek of what is happening behind the scenes in the locker room.

I say, coach suit up and kick ASS!! Who doesn't love Joe, the man is a WINNER in everything he gets involved, getting fired is a good sign of things to come. I want him fired up every week including Dallas week, then I want him frothing at the mouth like a rabid dog.

Re: "Coach Joe is on the Warpath!"

I'm not trying to sound like a sour grape but Gibbs lied. He told George that he wants to run 70% of the time and "take our shots." That is what he said. I heard it myself. So I'm not sure what Gibbs is talking about.

Bottom line is Det has a pretty good front 7 led by Shawn Rogers who is one of the best DT's in the NFL. But they are ranked 30th or 31st against the pass. So going in and trying to run 70% of the time against the lions is a stupid game plan. If the coaches watched the tape against Phi. then they should know Det. has serious problems in the secondary.

JWsleep 10-05-2007 05:41 PM

Re: "Coach Joe is on the Warpath!"

Whatever--I did not see the George Michaels thing, so I can't be sure what he meant by that, but he has been preaching balance from day one in Gibbs II.

I just am glad to see some fire from the man. No doubt, he's not visiting the message boards or anything, but he's been taking a lot of crap the last two weeks, and that stuff about Portis and his knee was pretty silly, IMO. No more Mr. Nice-guy would be a good thing.

Hell yea! The coach is fired up, and the team is gonna come out and make a BIG STATEMENT!

We are gonna stomp the LIONS ASS!

It wouldn't be the first time Gibbs lied. He's a good guy and all, but he will tell us what we want to hear. He's a diplomat.

I'm really happy to see that Joe is fired up and a little ticked off again. I didn't think he had it in him anymore, but he suprised me. I want to see the guys play with that kind of attitude all year.

Re: "Coach Joe is on the Warpath!"

History will tell you that when the Redskins were in their glory years, we had a balanced offensive attack. As much as Gibbs has been known for his ball controlled offense, we actually had a pretty decent balanced offense.

I didn't see the interview with George Michael, but I wouldn't doubt if what Gibbs said to him wasn't meant to be tongue and cheek and the media taken every word as gospel. If that's the case, it isnt' lying, I mean heck, what team wouldn't want to win every ball game by just handing it off to the running back?
Gibbs is not the guy to throw stuff and break thing it just not in him now or in his past.
That is absolutely, factually incorrect. There are documented reports that have Gibbs punching holes in chalkboards, knocking over chairs, and starting a foodfight with a bucket full of oranges at halftime to get his team fired up.

He HAS done this in his first stint as head coach. I haven't heard of him doing this his second time around. But trust me -- it HAS happened.

Joe Theismann on the Dan Patrick Show said that on a Monday after a loss, his players were in a meeting going over film from the day before. When noticing that his players weren't really into it, daydreaming and carrying on, he immediately put his fist through the glass on the overhead projector when trying to diagram a play.

What we see on the sidelines, and what he shows in public to the media is, according to reports, NOTHING like what the players used to see in private.

I'm don't doubt any of these stories are true. We all the know guy is competitive as hell. My point is he is stubborn as hell and in his 2nd go around it's hurt the team.

Beemnseven 10-05-2007 08:53 PM

Re: "Coach Joe is on the Warpath!"

Stubborn? In what way? I think he's shown a willingness to change -- giving up playcalling to Al Saunders was a huge departure from the norm for Gibbs.

Gibbs 1.0 would have had them in full pads, with full contact practices all week after such a galling loss. I really don't sense that the players have a healthy fear of Gibbs since he returned.

Agreed. I'm not sure that media session means anything. Winning games w/ guys flying around the field making huge plays will be the only way to know whether it means anything. If Gibbs can begin to fire-up his boys it will make all the difference, because so far in 2.0 there just has not been the kind of inspired play seen under HOF coaches. I know this is an age old argument and my dad will always say that NFL players are supposed to be professionals (paid a shitload of money) who shouldn't need to be inspired. Give me a friggin break. Look at how guys get fired up under Dungy and Belichick and Cowher (even if I don't like the guy). Not to mention most of the ballers are still kids. Shit, Portis is two years younger than I am. Younger guys look for inspiration. If the coaching staff can't light a fire under the asses of testasterone laden, half-juiced jocks there's a big f'n problem. I'm praying this is our breakout game. Hail Skins!

I agree totally. I think JG getting pissed is definitely a good thing, but I would also like to see some of that on the players a bit as well.

Seems like JG finally woke up....

Redskins 38 Lions 17

Yeah he gave up the playcalling but he is dictating to Sanders. This is not the way Sanders wants to run his offense.

Plus those two terrible play calls at the end of the Giants game were his.

skinsfan69 10-06-2007 10:36 AM

Re: "Coach Joe is on the Warpath!"

Honestly I don't care if Gibbs breaks 100 film projectors. It doesn't matter. We need to win cause it's a conference game and we need to come out and score some points. Det is going to score, I have no doubt about that. So I want to see us going down the field on these guys like Philly did. McNabb lit them up with Kevin Curtis. So if Kevin Curtis can have a big day then Santana and ARE should have a field day.

Re: "Coach Joe is on the Warpath!"

He needs to be on the Warpath. i am a bit tired of the same ole act week in and week out. "they fought their guts out....we are in this thing together.... blah blah blah. He needs to start busting some ass around redskin park and get people fired up and motivated to play. I am sick of the no fire this team has. In 2005 this team had a swagger and fight about them. I just dont see that same attitude from this team yet.

Gibbs made a concentrated effort to drive home the point he expects to run a "balanced" attack. During the course of that MB he used the word "balanced" at least ten times, in an effort to ensure they grasped the significance of what he has consistently maintained....."balance".
