Another Brandon Lloyd Thread
I noticed almost immediately after Lloyd got his first reception, the crowd responded with a supportive cheer, and so did the sidelines.
I know it was just one catch, but maybe it's the beginning of him seeing more playing time, who knows. It's just good to see the team supporting him in that way. It would be nice if he could contribute this Sunday. Maybe he should steal a page from Mike Seller's book and nag the hell out of Gibbs until he get's in the game. |
Re: Another Brandon Lloyd Thread
I agree. I also noticed his second effort to get more yards. Seemed interested in playing his guts out.
|
Re: Another Brandon Lloyd Thread
A few things I noticed at the game and watching it afterward:

He seemed to go down without contact. I know he was going to get nailed, but he had a nine yard gain. We punted with gaining a first then. I believe the coaches would be disappointed if they thought he could have gotten more.
He was the last receiver to enter the game. McCardell and Caldwell both played before he did, and they don't have a year with this playbook.
On the other hand, when Rogers got his pick, the cameras showed Lloyd cheering him with other players. He doesn't seem to be a paraih with his teammates.
What does all this mean? Not a great deal. I'm just practicing my typing. |
Re: Another Brandon Lloyd Thread
If Lloyd would show ANY real sign of promise, he would play. I have noticed several players commenting, "nice to see Lloyd get some work", etc. If he could just learn to fight his guts out...........ehh 724?
|
Re: Another Brandon Lloyd Thread
In light of our receiving situation and given his effort on the chance he was given most recently, I think we'll have to look his way again in more instances this season, but he's likely gone next year unless he really lights it up or something...
Just keep in mind McCardell has Double the catches for 4x the yards and he's been with the team for what... 2 weeks? |
Re: Another Brandon Lloyd Thread
Lloyd obviously has a bad attitude in the locker room and does not respect saunders and gibbs.......none of this has to do with his talent.....he's not a prototypical CORE redskin, so he doesnt see the field. This has pluses and minuses...the plus is that it keeps all TEAM players on the field, and limits boneheaded penalties, and guarentee's 100% on every play from every player since they are concerned with the TEAM. Llloyd is out 2nd or 3rd most talented receiver...but he obviously has the worst attitude of all the receivers. That IS what separates dallas from washington.....character

Re: Another Brandon Lloyd Thread
Someone told me he was on the Junkies the other day and was saying all the right things (again?). Saying he just wants to help the team while he's here, and if it means making catches, then he'll do it, if it means playing on the scout defense, then so be it.
I was told that after the interview they all were saying he was just a scapegoat and he just wasn't getting thrown the ball. He's got to change his work ethic (from what I hear it's pathetic) if he wants any shot of staying on this squad. |
Re: Another Brandon Lloyd Thread
I heard the Junkies interview and he was basically singing the company line. Either he wants to make nice in Washington, or he's trying to put on a good face for other teams when they cut him loose next season.
I think the Lloyd situation is similar to the Arrington situation, in that he's obviously more talented than the guys in front of him, but his attitude has him in the doghouse. I was one of the few that was very vocal in defense of Arrington, but I don't have the same feelings for B. Lloyd. IMO, you could at least see that Lavar was giving it his all when he was on the field. Lloyd on the other hand, gives little effort. During the Junkies interview, he actually admitted to loafing after the jump ball pick in the Dolphins game... That's bullshit. Talented or not, I'd leave his ass on the bench with that kind of attitude. |

I think that's it exactly. Regarding the crowd reaction, I thought the crowd reacted in almost a surprised kind of way to his catch. 1 catch, 9 yards, and here we are talking about this bum yet again. I don't get it. |
Re: Another Brandon Lloyd Thread
"It's going to take all of us together," Randle El said. "I was excited that Brandon came in and caught a pass. Same thing with Keenan--he came right in and he had two big catches to help us move the ball downfield."
I thought this was pretty interesting. Randle is a pretty class guy so he might just be suportive no matter what, but it seems he almost has hopes for Lloyd Randle El Expects to Play vs. Packers |
Re: Another Brandon Lloyd Thread
we sign kennan a week ago and he catches 3 balls and brandon catches his first 5 games in what a joke. why do we have him?
|
Re: Another Brandon Lloyd Thread
Guys the reality of the situation is we are going to keep him for a while because of salary cap implications. Also he does have talent.
Because of those two facts I think you must give him more chances and hope he does well. Again I don't think he should get countless chances. But like last game, give him a couple easy plays to run, and then progress. If there is no improvement, then leave it as it is. |

A nice, tidy post. I agree that Lloyd dove before they could hit him. He should have gained the first down on that one. But, that's how he rolls. He hates contact. McCardell fits in much better with his zone-beating prowess over the middle. I could see Keenan catching 30 to 35 balls the rest of the way. Brandon will leave in the offseason, but I don't think the Redskins should be closed-minded about him. He has certain athletic qualities that make him unique and he may be of some usefullness at some point this year. Also, if injuries persist, they may not have a choice. I think that's what happened Sunday. I don't think he was going to play until Randle-El was hurt. He then had to go in on certain pakages because he's the only one left. |
Re: Another Brandon Lloyd Thread
I think it's nice to see the crowd and players support Brandon like that. It shows that we are willing and patient and we still want him to contribute and be a positive member of the team. I'm not saying we need to put him back in as a #2 or anything along those lines, just that give him a couple more touches a game.
|
Re: Another Brandon Lloyd Thread
I think they just need to put his ass in the game and throw him the damn ball. He can't do anything is he's not in the game.
|
Re: Another Brandon Lloyd Thread
He got those nine yards by breaking a tackle at the line and about five yards past scrimage and with his effort he got 9 yards with no blocking help. I'm not sure what the problem is with BL but his effort on that play was a question.

Not sure if that makes him the pot or the kettle, but funny either way.
I agree we should try harder to get Lloyd the ball, if for no other reason than trying to get a better return on our investment. I want to see what happens when he's thrown to five or more times in a game. |

If he didn't want to fight for the catch the least he could have done is fight like hell to keep his qb from an int. I wish we could trade Lloyd now, but it's gonna suck no matter what cause his trade value is in the toilet. |

Lloyd made a nifty initial move to get free of the first tackler and then picked up the maximum likely yards after that in a strong attempt to get a first down. He was no more trying to avoid contact on that play than he was dogging the effort to make the catch on that infamous interception. He says he dogged it after the interception. Politics. My video says he had no real chance of making the tackle after the intercept and chased the play anyway. |
Re: Another Brandon Lloyd Thread
We all cheered at the bar too...1 catch can be the start of good things for him and the Skins but I'm highly skeptical.

Re: Another Brandon Lloyd Thread
I think the "cheering" was more like the combined sarcasm of 90 thousand plus. I know it was at my house. Not so much way to go as "Congratulations, you finally caught a pass this year... and it's week 5."

That was some of it - the other part was when you are up two scores and your fifth receiver gets into it, there's a wave of confidence that flows over you. You think "if this guy's rolling over you, you ain't comin' back, Lions." |

Throwing the ball to Loyd just because we paid him a lot doesn't help the team. Recievers have to work to know their plays & routes, and then work to get open. As we saw in the Mia. game, throwing him the ball can have serious consequences. |
Re: Another Brandon Lloyd Thread
Freddy just made the best point in the thread. Just because we gave him money doesen't mean he is going to preform for us. He caught one ball and had a 2nd effort and picked up more yards. If the coaches think he should play then he should play, if not then keep him on the bench. Don't fix it if it ain't broke and right now I believe our record is 3-1.

Re: Another Brandon Lloyd Thread
b. lloyd is an athlete who happens to play football. He has said this off-season he actually worked out (5 yrs into your career and your just now trying to be the best you can be?) . .asked if he has established himself in the nfl and he said look at my house, look at my tv i definetly made it . . . . also he sounds, talks and acts kinda gay metrosexual-like . . not that theres anything wrong with that
|
Re: Another Brandon Lloyd Thread
Here is something to ponder - out of all the fantasy football players out there how many do you think have Brandon Llyod on their team? I would make a bet of the millions of players out there maybe about 10 people have him on their team and these 10 are either are related to the guy or are close friends with him.

Problem is, RandleEl and Moss have both been "broke" over the past few weeks and we need to develop our other receivers. I'm not saying to make Lloyd the number one receiver, but I think they should try to throw at least five passes to the guy in a game situation to better see what we have. |

The coaches have seen plenty - he's had over a year to show them, including over a dozen starts last year. That's what practice is for, players earn their jobs & lose them there. As I noted earlier on this thread, throwing to a reciever can bring serious repercussions if the wr doesn't run the route correctly & doesn't go after the ball. All accounts of loyd indicate he can't be trusted. I remember seeing a pissed off look on Brunell's face last year after he threw to Loyd. Remember the game last year when Loyd didn't go back for a long ball & Saunders thought he'd lost it in the lights? Loyd later said it was too far behind him to go after. Remember JC's first pass as a pro & he hit Loyd right on the hands but he dropped it? Remember our 1st game against Miami & the pick in the end zone? |

His history of bad relationships w/coaches & players goes back to SF. Then he charms the media & says all the right things (well almost all). Maybe somehow we'll get to see the 48 catch production (not that many catches, just the plays) he had in SF in 05, but I seriously doubt it. Gibbs & co. made a big mistake on this one. |
