Campbell: 'It's just totally different than it used to be'
Almost a week into team workouts at Redskins Park, players Friday continued to marvel at the changes in the organization under Coach Mike Shanahan.

Re: Campbell: 'It's just totally different than it used to be'
I applaud how it is now and shutter what use to be.

Re: Campbell: 'It's just totally different than it used to be'
Gotta love the comments on RI they span so many topics other then the actual article's subject matter.
|
Re: Campbell: 'It's just totally different than it used to be'
Gosh, doesn't it feel good to hear statements like this?
|
Re: Campbell: 'It's just totally different than it used to be'
Love It !

Re: Campbell: 'It's just totally different than it used to be'
"I like what Coach Shanahan has brought to the organization. It's like nothing I've seen,"
Wake up time.... Jason Campbell is just kissing the new coaches butt in reaction to Rex Grossman coming in. Just look at that statement, and consider the timing! I hate to put a damper on the enthusiasm, but look who it's coming from (man who's job is on the line) and see it from the viewpoint of being his boss... That being said, I'm sure things are going to be run much more efficiently than with Zorn. |

I like JC and think he deserves a shot this yr. But of course I want to draft Bradford also lol |
Re: Campbell: 'It's just totally different than it used to be'
You might feel this way, but what about him? Four reasons why he should feel threatened...
1. As I mentioned Rex, he just said yesterday(?) that he feels like he can still start. Yeah he's a bit of a loser, but he's been to the SuperBowl, has Campbell? 2. Now putting Rex aside... As you mentioned the draft. Bradford drafted, Campbell is no longer the franchise QB, period. 3. Longshot... but what if Shanahan becomes stricken with Colt? He's a gunslinger. 4. Look at all his fellow teammates/"leaders" that were just cut. Rock, Betts, ARE, Griff.... How secure do you think he feels? I'd be kissing butt if I were Campbell... |
Re: Campbell: 'It's just totally different than it used to be'
Colt? Brennan or McCoy, neither of them have a legit shot at starting in the NFL. And Grossman got Carried to that SB, His numbers are bad at best. JC has never been a franchise QB, thats y we will more than likely draft 14 Or 7 in this years draft.

Re: Campbell: 'It's just totally different than it used to be'
Sometimes a statement is just a statement. I know people love to read between the lines but I just don't see anything here to indicate JC has some sort of motive when commenting on the state of Redskins Park now compared to the past. Relax folks.
|
Re: Campbell: 'It's just totally different than it used to be'
Hey I'm not making a case for Colt or Rex...
Just saying Campbell sounds like a man with a first round tender who fears his starting days in the NFL are numbered. |

So true! Like if JC is struggling in week six and MS is about to bench him and then realizes all the nice things he said about him in that March RI interview, oh he can stay the starter I forgot about that. |
Re: Campbell: 'It's just totally different than it used to be'
i love that the workouts are structured and it's not just guys coming in and wandering around, i can only imagine the difference from last year to this one, good things
Meh... sounds like a guy who was stopped in the hall at Redskins Park and asked a few questions.
His job being on the line is nothing new.
So you're saying he can be cool and take all of it in stride? Isn't this the same guy who a year ago multiple NFL sources said would demand a trade if the Redskins drafted Mark Sanchez?? Hey I think he should be our starting QB this year, and yeah probably reading into his statement too much... but it's that time of the year. I'm bored. |

Isn't that what he did last year? Despite the so called "sources" last year, he never came out and said anything about wanting a trade. Considering the circumstances he handled himself quite well, and he was publically applauded in the media for the way he handled things as well. |
Re: Campbell: 'It's just totally different than it used to be'
I can guarantee you that Jason Campbell isn't looking over his shoulder at Rex Grossman or anyone else currently on the roster.

Re: Campbell: 'It's just totally different than it used to be'
i respect the hell out of jason campbell for the way he handles things. man, if only he could put it together this year. i would love to believe in him on the field like i do off it.

It was ment as a joke, you made a comment & based on that comment i figured you had to be Colt -- ala 9 posts meaning you just joined your Colt. |

Rex is the veteran being brought in to help teach the others the system. Rex is not going to be the starter. |
Re: Campbell: 'It's just totally different than it used to be'
The thing I want to know is how long will this last. It's all well and good now, even necessary, however what about 3 or 4 years from now when the honeymoon period wears down? Was Shanahan able to get this kind of compliance to his offseason workout program like this throughout his time in Denver?

Winning gets you compliance, he wins and they will show up with bells on. |
Re: Campbell: 'It's just totally different than it used to be'
^^ Agreed ^^
As far as JC goes, I think it is time to have a couple of QBs push for his job. This new catch phrase around the park, "competition", will make this whole team better including the QB who ever the starter is. If JC wins the job in training camp then he competed and won the spot. Where in the past there was never a competition for JC. He was the incumbent starter and no one was going to push him out the door. I feel the same way about the RB position and CP. No one has ever been in a position to compete for his job. Now we have a coach and a FO with no ties to the current players. They want to get the best football players on the field and the only way to do that is to compete for the gig. Bringing in these guys to run this team could be the best thing for this franchise in a very long time. |
Re: Campbell: 'It's just totally different than it used to be'
Professional, was one word Jason used to describe the new and improved atmosphere around Redskin Park, I'll take some of that all the time. Good to see the guys committed to working hard and dedicating themselves to getting better because they want to be good.

Re: Campbell: 'It's just totally different than it used to be'
Not only will Bartel start for us at QB next year, he'll go to the Pro Bowl.

well said, it really is refreshing hearing things like this come from redskins park rather than all the crap we have had the past few seasons |
Re: Campbell: 'It's just totally different than it used to be'
Captain Slip and Slide was a complete joke. The swinging door proved it, Campbell's comments confirmed it.
As bad as the O-line was last year, they would have been at worst 8-8 with Shanahan last year. Thank goodness he is long gone. |
Re: Campbell: 'It's just totally different than it used to be'
Sometimes, describing what something actually is is a crime against humanity for some people. So what if they switched from the HITS method to the conjugate method or have the assistants and weight trainers get on the player's asses more often, it's all just fluffly propaganda from a scared idiot(in the literal definition of that word) and nothing has changed from Mr. Maroon and Black(and Gibbs).
|
Re: Campbell: 'It's just totally different than it used to be'
I mean it's hard to live tomorrow's reality today...almost universally. JC knows he might actually get replaced this year, but I doubt he really believes it will happen. From one perspective I guess it's good to keep your confidence up no matter what.
It's almost metaphysically certain Shanny will bench JC in a heartbeat when JC gets out of rhythm and throws a handful of those passes that result in 3 and outs. If the current roster QB collection stays intact the only question is who Shanny puts in there, Grossman or Colt. I think both guys will come out slinging and probably win a lot of hearts around here. |

If you think differently, you're bullshitting yourself. |

Credit Bruce Allen's ability to deal effectively with the media in reducing the flow of information coming out of Redskin Park. The local media is taking notice because recently they made mention of how secretive the new administration is. It's obvious they're all hungry for stories that are not forthcoming. Bruce Allen reminds me so much of his father....George Allen was super secretive. Not putting all your business in the street is the way it should be!! |

Think he is gonna come right out of the gate challenging the new coach? And he said similar things about Zorn too. |
Re: Campbell: 'It's just totally different than it used to be'
I think it's relevant. The atmosphere around Redskins Park has done a 180 from last year. From the way the front office is operating to the more organized conditioning program. This is more than fluff... going from Zorn to Shanahan is night and day.

Re: Campbell: 'It's just totally different than it used to be'
Please!!!! Insulting my Joe Gibbs should be banned from this discussion IMO.
This isn't about insults. This is about how conditioning programs and stuff are run.
So I will assume you've got evidence to prove that Zorn was not keeping the leeway Gibbs gave to his guys? Campbell says this is nothing he has seen in all his damn time here, and last time I checked, he was drafted in 2005. Zorn probably tried to keep the status quo while trying to learn on the fly how to be a HC, and flaming out in the end. |
