Willie Parker a Skin
per Adam Schefter: Redskins reached agreement on a one-year deal with RB Willie Parker. Deal has a maximum value of $3.1 million
|
re: Willie Parker a Skin
Maybe Portis will be traded? That's a loaded backfield.

re: Willie Parker a Skin
Let the competition begin! No one is just going to show up and be handed the job. Shanahan really does like competition. I like it.
|
re: Willie Parker a Skin
I like it, I think I kind of jokingly said a while back we should sign Parker too after signing LJ.
This gives us a pretty good 3 headed monster at RB. Shanahan loves to have a stable of backs. |

competition all the way around no guarantees |
Re: Willie Parker a Skin
Woah. One minute Parker's about to sign on the dotted line, next minute he's gone, and now he's here?
Didn't see that coming I think with him and Buch though we're getting two high quality individuals...if nothing else |
Re: Willie Parker a Skin
I love this move. Love it!
Portis needs to focus on football again. He had clearly lost his way. One of these three guys will now get to prove that they have something left. |
Re: Willie Parker a Skin
I'll be interested to see what we do about RB in the draft...and who survives training camp.

Mid to low round pick in the draft, this helps address LB needs. |
Re: Willie Parker a Skin
2 things I like about it:
1) competition at the position will benefit the whole team, sends a big message to CP in case he hasn't gotten it already w/LJ 2) is a short term fix & allows the team greater flexibility in the draft to address other positions. They can nab a young rb. What I don't like: 1) 3 old rbs, was hoping we could get a rook to make the team, play spec. teams & be the 3rd back. At least, like I mention above, it's a position that is less of a need for the draft now. 2) are either LJ or WP an upgrade over Betts if he can recover? |
Re: Willie Parker a Skin
A move like this helps keep our options open in the draft.
Portis, LJ, Parker certainly looks a lot better than Portis, Betts, Cartwright |

Re: Willie Parker a Skin
Maybe this is the big announcement SS was predicting a few days ago...or not. LOL. Anyway, wow, talk about this coming out of nowhere.
|
Re: Willie Parker a Skin
I'd feel better if Portis wasn't the youngest/best of the bunch.
I guess Parker is younger, technically, but I don't like this one as much as the LJ signing. |

It's not. Once Parker left without a contract last time and we signed LJ, I thought that was it for Parker |
Re: Willie Parker a Skin
Very Very Nice!

Who? ;) |
Re: Willie Parker a Skin
For all the talk of how the Redskins have been slow to do anything this off-season, we've now signed 7 players who were not on our roster last season...which is the most of any team in the NFL
|
Re: Willie Parker a Skin
I like it because it allows for varying skill sets. They all are well suited for a zone-blocking, one-cut style. But Johnson's a bit more of a bruiser, Portis is the all-around with the great pass protection skills, and Willie is still pretty darn fast and can be that change of pace.

Re: Willie Parker a Skin
The backfield is taking shape with short term solutions, I'm sure there has to be a longer range plan in mind. One year contract in a crowded backfield dosen't leave room to expect a lot by way of the future.
Oh! I forgot, the future is now. |

Techno Willie Ja. Time to speeds it up

Lets see if I can do this off the top of my head: Kemo - DT Buchannon - CB Wilie Parker - RB Larry Johnson - RB Artis Hicks - G/T Kory L - C/G? Sexy Rexy - QB Forgot Josh Bidwell. |
Re: Willie Parker a Skin
So we have 5 HBs on the roster then? PJ Hill and Alridge are also in mix. Should I draw a Josh McDaniels comparison?
|
Re: Willie Parker a Skin
wtf I go searching for posts for a bit and miss out on page 1 goodness
very loaded backfield... I'd have to imagine these guys will all be on the opening day roster |
Re: Willie Parker a Skin
(ring ring) Mr. Portis, this is your wake-up call
|
Re: Willie Parker a Skin
Can u say run first team? Lol I like the move but we will see if he makes this team.

Nice signing. Suddenly we have a good backfield.

It's possible also that Parker or LJ won't make it past training camp, though I'd be surprised

You forgot Sean Ryan
yeah.. I reminded Matty to update the tracker for Medlock a couple of times but no such luck so far haha ahh yes Ryan |
Re: Willie Parker a Skin
Anyone up now for trading Orakpo and a second round pick for a disgruntled running back?
It's possible also that Parker or LJ won't make it past training camp, though I'd be surprised
Who knows? Maybe Portis ends up being the odd man out. Anyway Redskins now have 3 of the top 10 rushers since 2004. Portis 4th, Johnson 5th, Parker 10th. |

Yeah I'd have to imagine it'd take an injury or just abysmal performance. All 3 of them have something to prove and now Alridge has to really fight to be involved. Should be one hell of a competition. |
Re: Willie Parker a Skin
Jason Reid wrote:
Parker's agent: 'It's flat out an open competition' at RB Apparently, Clinton Portis really will have to fight to keep his job. That seemed clear Friday after the Redskins signed running back Willie Parker, adding another Pro Bowl runner to a backfield that already included Portis and the recently signed Larry Johnson. Parker signed an incentive-laded one-year contract worth as much as $3.1 million, league sources said. Portis is guaranteed $6.4 million this season, but Coach Mike Shanahan has made it clear every job on the roster is open. So with the addition of Johnson and Parker, the battle in the backfield is on. "It's flat out an open competition," said Parker's agent, Doug Hendrickson. "That's what they told Willlie. It's a flat-out open competition as to who's going to play and who's going to start. They said that's the way it's going to be." |

I think it's more possible in Parker's case than LJ though. |

Re: Willie Parker a Skin
I still say a healthy and conditioned Portis is the best out of the 3 but they've all got their work cut out for them. This is some real head to head competition right here.
