Campbell will now stay away from Redskins Park

Redskins Insider - Jason Campbell will work out away from Redskins Park These two articles really tell the story and make me think that a trade is coming. This move to me, says that Jason really wants out of Washington now and a deal has to be expected very soon for him to not even have anything to do with the training facility. |
Re: Campbell will now stay away from Redskins Park
i really want to know what was said yesterday at lunch between JC and Shanny. this is certainly a response to what has transpired in the last 48 hours.
|
Re: Campbell will now stay away from Redskins Park
In other news, the sun rose this morning and it will set at dusk. LOL.
Alright, let me stop being an a-hole. This is not surprising, glad to see that the Redskins appear to be giving Campbell the chance to go and compete elsewhere. |

I heard that Shanahan gave Jason the option to stay on as the unquestioned backup quarterback for what would be his final year as a redskin, and try and learn as much as he could from McNabb, OR If he didn't like that option, the team would do their best to trade him to a team where he will get a fair shot at starting. I'm assuming that if they can't deal him, he will be released, if he does not agree to the idea of being McNabb's backup. Seeing that he is now staying away from the facility, he is either trying to force their hand at a quick trade, or trying to get released so he can sign with whoever he wants... |
Re: Campbell will now stay away from Redskins Park
Someone remind me what we have won with this guy? Nice guy, but bye,bye JC
|
Re: Campbell will now stay away from Redskins Park

No need to be classless about it, it's not like the Redskins gave Jason (or any player) any opportunity to win. |
Re: Campbell will now stay away from Redskins Park
JC had a tough go of things here but that's how shit goes sometimes. He'll land on his feet somewhere.

Everything about how this is being handled is wrong. Okay, so you decide that McNabb is the way to go. Fine. Plenty of argument fo rhim to be the better man. But hey, Jason didn't exaclty throw games and curse out players. He didn't cause any huge scandals or name names. Between Bruce and Mike, SOMEBODY should've had the the testicular fortitude to have a honest, man to man talk with Jason Campbell and tell him about McNabb. At least call him up and say, "Yo! We got your boy Donovan!" No class at all in this organization. After the way he was treated, I wouldn't wanna be seen there either. |
Re: Campbell will now stay away from Redskins Park
One thing i cant understand is why the team didn't tell JC. What were they waiting on? Jason to see Donovan come down to the Press Conference and then figure it out?
Makes me think it's the same old FO we are used to..... |
Re: Campbell will now stay away from Redskins Park
Can't argue with a man who's been a fan since 1987!!!! :)....sigh
|
Re: Campbell will now stay away from Redskins Park
I don't see how you can say this organization is handling things with Jason Campbell with no class. Campbell (unless he is deaf, dumb, and blind) already knew that Shanahan was NOT sold on him as the starting QB. It's the nature of the business. If you can't lead a team to playoffs, playoff wins, and at least Super Bowl appearances you can't expect to stay..at least not in this NFL.

Re: Campbell will now stay away from Redskins Park
Glad Campbell's staying away. it would only make things uncomfortable for everyone if he showed up. hopefully he can get traded sometime this week and move on with his career.

Makes me think it's the same old FO we are used to.....
Have said this multiple times but to some people Campbell has said they did tell him, to others he has said they didn't. I guess maybe we'll know for sure today. But the reality is that's the NFL. That's all teams. That's all sports in fact. I'm sure they kept Campbell in the loop on as much as possible. They've told him first about all the QBs they're bringing in for visits. They let him know at least a week before we signed Grossman that they were looking at him. They also told him he was not guaranteed to be the starter. |

I thought Mike Golic made a good point this morning about this, he basically said that Shanahan never named JC the starter to begin with, so should he also be calling Colt Brennan? He didn't draft JC, he wasn't his starter, so what does he really owe him? |

I assume they couldn't talk to him before the McNabb deal was done because they'd risk starting a media circus. Of course, I don't know, maybe he was told about a potential trade days before it went down. |
Re: Campbell will now stay away from Redskins Park
I don't know what calls were made when, but I have a feeling that MS and BA both tried to call him, but if you are JC, and your phone starts going crazy Easter Sunday and it is your coach and GM, he had to know what was happening, maybe not McNabb, but they weren't calling just to say Happy Easter.

Re: Campbell will now stay away from Redskins Park
Business is Business, the new regime is in no way indebted to JC nor do they owe him an explaination. It's not like the guy is a DC icon or won many games for the Skins, what has he done? Handle his mediocrity with class? He should watch his game film himself...the answers are all right there. He's appears to be a nice guy and I wish him luck with his future endeavors. owever, for the JC gets no respect crowd, a saying my dad used to give me: "Respect is not a given. It is an earned."
In business or any perfomanced based endeavor, respect is earned through results. |
Re: Campbell will now stay away from Redskins Park
^exactly, dont talk bad about him people's feeling might get hurt.
When McNabb back there winning, nobody will remember JC |
Re: Campbell will now stay away from Redskins Park
I also think with the way things went down things happened so quickly that calling JC really wasn't a high priority. And as SS already said, there seems to be mixed reports on whether he was contacted or not, so who knows, and frankly who cares.
I do think that things were handled badly last year with the Culter and Sanchez talk, but again, this is the NFL. It's a tough biz. Life ain't fair either. |

Of all people, Campbell understands what's going on and is working with the team to get him traded to a team where he can compete. I really don't think anyone shafting anybody in this situation. |

I will take a shot at this... Absolutely nothing. No meaningful regular season games and no playoff games. |
Re: Campbell will now stay away from Redskins Park
What about Todd Collins. After all he's done for this franchise, he just gets cut!!!!
No respect, I tell ya! |
Re: Campbell will now stay away from Redskins Park
This sucks for me personally i'm from Alabama i'm a Roll Tide fan tho but football fan nonetheless. But i met Jason when he was at Auburn his senior year him, Cadillac, Ronnie, Carlos & etc. He was a humble, nice, high character individual & he was drafted by my favorite team i loved it. Jason has shown nothing but class over the years and there aren't many people that do that in the NFL. I want to thank him for his services here and i will continue to follow him. Thank You JC!!!

They have made a decision to move on and this decision should be understood and respected by the fans. Football is a business and this is a business decision (a good one if you ask me). Jason had plenty of opportunity to distinguish himself and he never did it. The best thing for him and the team is to move on and that is what is happening here. |

Re: Campbell will now stay away from Redskins Park
JC is a nice guy and well liked by his team however as stated in previous posts, he never won a meaningful games (excluding eagles/cowboys very early in the season a few years ago) ... hang on to the ball for sacks/picks/check downs .. imagine a QB that is going to sling it down the field !!! I still can't believe this happened we are so lucky as skins' fans right now

Re: Campbell will now stay away from Redskins Park
The worse thing that happened to JC was Gibbs liked him and traded up to get him. He's gone through career hell with this organization. I wish him the best because he's a decent human being. But I personally believe he knew what was going on and even if he didn't it's not like he's been the face of the franchise and would be treated as such. If he's going to be traded I hope it happens quickly so we can get on with it.
|
Re: Campbell will now stay away from Redskins Park
Worse thing is probably that Gibbs left him. Either way though, I agree that perhaps the expectations of him were unreasonably high considering what we gave up to get him.

Re: Campbell will now stay away from Redskins Park
Presser should start in 15-20 minutes. Kelly Johnson is talking to Mike Williams right now on ComCast.

Re: Campbell will now stay away from Redskins Park
I think Jason Campbell was treated better than most quarterbacks.
He was provided in chronological order: - A 1500 yard receiver. (Santana Moss) - A 1500 yard runningback. (Clinton Portis) - A stud tight end. (Chris Cooley) - A HOF coach. (Joe Gibbs) - A highly-regarded defensive coordinator. (Gregg Williams) - A solid offensive line. (2006, 2007, 1/2 of 2008) - Time on the bench to learn, instead of being thrown to the wolves. - A highly-regarded offensive coordinator. (Al Saunders) - He was designated as 3rd string his first two years but given the opportunity to leapfrog Todd Collins. (2006) - A playoff team (2007). - A good defense (2007, 2008, 2009). - Unquestioned as starter (2007, 2008, 2009). - A coach committed to Jason Campbell (Jim Zorn). Please, can anyone name any other quarterback who lost as much as Jason Campbell in 52 starts that was treated better? And obviously some people want to use the hiring of Al Saunders as some sort of obstacle in Jason Campbell's career, so why would anyone want to give him the benefit of the doubt with the hiring of the Shanahans? |
Re: Campbell will now stay away from Redskins Park
Jason is a nice man.
We need a QB and I for one don't care if he's nice or not. McNabb is a band-aid for 3 -4- yrs. until Shanny gets who he wants. Football is not about treating player or fans with respect. I've learned that much ever since Jack Kent Cooke expired. |
Re: Campbell will now stay away from Redskins Park
What about Todd Collins. After all he's done for this franchise, he just gets cut!!!!
No respect, I tell ya!
Collins i feel deserves at least a little respect, maybe moreso than JC, because he stepped in and won 4 straight games and took us to the playoffs. That right there is more than Campbell ever did in DC. That being said, business is business. There was no upside in a 38 year old backup quarterback, unless he was trying to be our Brett Favre.... |

Hey Smoot i don't normally disagree with you man, but When Gibbs had his retirement press conference, he stated clearly that had he stayed on, he would have had a training camp battle between Todd Collins, and Jason Campbell, so clearly his loyalty at that point to Campbell took a backseat to what was best for the football team. Gibbs had a reputation for sticking with his QBs while they were struggling, but even he would eventually relent and bench someone when it clearly wasn't working. Look at Brunell in 2004, benched after 9 games. In 2005 Brunell came back and had a Monster Year. In 2006, after winning only 3 games, Brunell was benched. Even more, Gibbs said he thought about benching Campbell in 2007 even before his knee injury.... |

lol I was kicking on the door during the Super Bowl party my parents were at so that I could come in and watch the game.. I'll still never forgive them for that, leaving me in the fucking game room with no TV I was 4 |
Re: Campbell will now stay away from Redskins Park
Not surprising that he's not going to Redskin Park. No big deal. I think what JC is going to find is there isn't a market out there for him to be a starter. Carolina is going w/ Moore, Oakland and Buffalo are maybes but does he really want to go to those two places? Ralph Wilson is nuts and their organization isn't stable. Oakland is a complete joke. IMO his best bet is to come back here and compete w/ Grossman and learn from Shanahan and co.
