What's Your Vice?: 1st Round Draft Picks
 

Edit: Who is your favorite Non-LT/QB prospect as it relates to the Redskins? Please stick to first rounders.

With LT being the biggest need it seems obvious the team is going to go with someone early at that position weather it be a trade down or staying at 4.

However who else would you consider taking early that doesn't play LT or O-Line for that matter. For example Smootsmack has a huge man crush on CJ Spiller. I on the other hand am intrigued by the possibility of drafting Rolando McClain given that he's not only talented physically but could easily be considered the smartest football player in this draft (Myron Rolle is obviously the smartest bookwise).

So with that said have at it. What other draft prospects have caught your eye near the top of the draft as potential Redskins?

A trade down to #7, or #13 for more picks, and an OT or 6.

Jimmy Clausen!! As much as I really want him now that we signed McNabb, it wouldn't be prudent to go after him now. We really need to trade down for more picks, but we've screwed our leverage with the McNabb trade, so we're taking Okung at #4.

No tackles (or QB's for that matter). This is about what prospects you like at the top of the draft that play other positions that we could conceivably pick. Especially in any other year where we didn't have a huge hole at LT. So guys like Suh, Berry, and Spiller should show up for a lot of people.

This is the greatest thread of all time. I will not have you mock it. Alright in all honesty my popularity around here has been dwindling lately. When I make a thread everyone is forced to read my post therefore making me super popular. Of course I should know that threads are a lot like jokes, if you have to explain them then chances are they're not going to work out, but lets see if this one can catch on. I'm predicting a 4 pager before it's sent to the archives.

I also appreciate the "SPILLLLLLERRRRRRRR!!!!" comment. I was hoping someone would catch on to that.

Jared Odrick Penn State 6'5 305 3-4 DE built like Richard Seymour. He will suprise some and I predict will go in the top 10.

In my opinion, there are now 4 options for the 4th pick; Suh, McCoy, Okung, and Berry.
I am fine with any of the 4.

Taylor Mays he would be great in a hybrid Saftey/LB roll he has the size. We would have to trade back & do this later in the 1st rd not worth it at #4.

Berry probably is more of a luxury pick than a need pick. Same thing goes for Suh/McCoy unless Haynesworth is traded.

i dream about us being in the position to take eric berry, who i think could take this defense to the next level. we have more pressing needs, but it would be sweet to have a ball hawk like 21 was for us.

All of the picks in this thread are meant to be "luxury" picks. It's like who would you draft besides a LT or QB? Crap now I realize how I should have titled the thread.

If Okung is gone to the Lions, I'm definitely gonna trade down with either A) San Fran and get their 13th overall pick, their 2nd rounder, and their fourth. B) New England and get their first, 2 seconds, 4th, and 5th picks. I'm then going to draft with either of those first round picks Charles Brown and make him my starting LT. With my additional picks I'm address G, LB, DE, RT, and CB. Names that come to mind are Brandon Spikes, Jason Fox, Donald Butler, Brandon Deadrick, Jerry Hughes, Mitch Petrus, Jared Veldheer, Kyle Calloway, Javier Arenas, Matt Tennat, Jerome Murphy.

My brain says go get a LT at #4.. My brain also says the lions take him at #2...

My heart says go draft a star player in the making (Suh, Berry, McCoy, man even Spiller) and deal with our bad oline in trades. I can't see Rocky, Rogers, Landry, Haynesworth, Carter ALL STAYING. Someone is going to be traded. It's just a question that we won't have the answer for until it's done...

I don't see how the answer can be anyone except Eric Berry. Kid's gonna be a beast, and the thought of having him and being able to move landry back to strong safety makes me start to sweat....

Good question, and BTW you are really, super popular.

If not OT at #4, obviously Suh/McCoy are considerations at #4 if AH is moved. Berry is also a consideration as we have a need at FS, but both those options have been covered.

If we are successful in trading down in the 13-17 range Dan Williams would be a great pickup and a solid anchor in the 3-4. He can also play either the 1 or 3 tech in the 4-3.

Joe Haden is also intriguing, great talent and fits a need (unless we see a great improvement in Kevin Barnes which I believe is possible), we have a weakness at CB, again this is a trade down scenario.

McClain and Odrick (as a 3-4 DE) would also be good picks if trading down.

I knew the thread would work. Speaking of which anyway we could change the title of the thread to something like "Favorite Non-LT/QB First Rounder." Except instead of a lame title make it really cool. Then again attempting to make a cool title created the modest amount of confusion in the first place.

My real infatuation in the 1st round doesn't lie with any one player, rather other teams' picks. I want draft picks baby. Lots of 'em. This draft is loaded, and we only have 4 stinkin' picks right now. Not enough. At all. After the 1st round, we don't pick until the top of the 4th. Not acceptable to me.

Look at the following names and realize that 3 of these 5 will be available with 4th overall pick (yes, STL will draft Bradford): Suh, McCoy, Berry, Clausen, Okung. There will be a team (probably more than one) that will want one of those guys bad enough to move up. If the deal is right, I say we take it. I'd rather have say a Brian Bulaga and a 2nd rounder than Okung and no 2nd rounder.

I'm all about what will help us stockpile picks. And that includes trading players that could be named Haynesworth, Moss, Landry, Rogers, and Campbell, and if the price is sweet enough (as much as it hurts me to say it) maybe even Cooley.

Unfortunatly now it's either OL (LT) or FS.

I want to point out that on Extremeskins there was a thread about Allen talking on the radio saying they contacted Flozell Adams agent. He was Dallas's LT who was recently released (Fri). I'm not sure what to think but the negative talk centers around him false starting alot.

I think if the team picks him up and in the practice coming up they are satisfied with the few OL/T's they have picked up and who are already on the team then I can see us going after the FS who is similar to S.Taylor, or a LB, or a #1 WR if we can't pick up Marshell and they are reluctant to pick up T.O.

I'd have to say Renaldo McClain and Eric Berry, in that order. I'm also starting to want Kyle Wilson.

For some reason I'm also down on both of the D tackles, I think they'll be great, but I don't think either is a good fit for the 3-4.

Spiller would be electric in this offense. Just wish we didn't have such glaring needs on the OL. If we could somehow trade down, grab Spiller, and still end up with a top 5 OL prospect... wow.

Toby Gerhart would be an awesome pounder for Shanahan's one cut and go style.

More of a speed guy than a physical back but, I really like Jahvid Best as well. I have really been impressed with this kid's intelligence as well as his on field ability. Every interview I've heard with him, he sounds like a well spoken young man, really someone you'd want on your team. Add that to the production and I think he can be a special player.

He'd be Haynesworth alright, if you play him at 3-4 DT he'd be out of position just like they want to play AH. If you want a NT, we would need to pick Dan Williams from Tennessee.
