Steelers Actively Shopping Big Ben for a Top 10 Pick
Per Adam Schefter via PFT. I don't beleive in Twitter, so here's the PFT link.
Report: Steelers begin actively shopping Ben | ProFootballTalk.com
A day after Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that the Steelers are receiving trade feelers from other teams, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Steelers are contacting teams in the top ten of the draft regarding a possible trade. Per Schefter, at least one team is considering the possibility of sending the top-ten selection to the Steelers for Roethlisberger.
Its got to be the Bills or the Raiders. Either way, i have to say that I relish the thought of Rothlisberger languishing in Oakland or Buffalo for the rest of his "prime." If he goes to either city, he'll be so damaged by the time his contract expires that his career will be effectively over. |
Re: Steelers Actively Shopping Big Ben for a Top 10 Pick
"Actively shopping" and "receiving calls" are not exactly the same thing.
It would set their team way back to trade him regardless of their compensation, even if a #1 pick and Bradford...he'll take years to catch up to Ben even if he does succeed. I wouldn't be surprised to see him go somewhere though, because Rooney seems very angry about his QB, but I don't think the Steelers initiated the talks. |
Re: Steelers Actively Shopping Big Ben for a Top 10 Pick
If he goes to Oakland or Buffalo, that's one less potential landing place for Campbell

Fine with me. We need a good backup for McNabb. Chances are he won't play all 16 games.
|
Re: Steelers Actively Shopping Big Ben for a Top 10 Pick
Top ten pick? NFW. Not with his baggage now.
|
Re: Steelers Actively Shopping Big Ben for a Top 10 Pick
anyone have speculation on who the team might be?
|
Re: Steelers Actively Shopping Big Ben for a Top 10 Pick
id trade mcnabb straight up for him. (jk but serious) the steelers do not play around. mcnabb is a proven vet with a history of professinalism.

Re: Steelers Actively Shopping Big Ben for a Top 10 Pick
Plus a top ten pick for a guy whose going to be out for a quarter of the year or more?!?! They're f*cking out of their minds.

Re: Steelers Actively Shopping Big Ben for a Top 10 Pick
This could get crazy tomorrow! I think Holmgren's got to consider this too. And Seattle too. Then there's always some wild card, like us!
I think Pitt. might be over-reacting if they trade him, unless his past w/the team has also been rocky. If he's been a good teamate & employee I think it would be too much to actively seek to trade him. Give him a chance to redeem himself first. If they get a great offer, got to listen though. |
Re: Steelers Actively Shopping Big Ben for a Top 10 Pick
Top ten pick? NFW. Not with his baggage now.
Great point. If I'm Buffalo or Oakland, I offer a high 2nd rounder at best. Bringing in Roethlisberger would be PR nightmare at first.

Re: Steelers Actively Shopping Big Ben for a Top 10 Pick
Oakland seems like a somewhat obvious choice, Buffalo also a possibility.. but what if Clausen is gone before Cleveland and that's who they wanted? You think Holmgren bites on it?

But Pitt. would have a job opening. JC would fit in well there. They won't offer much though, 4th at best would be my guess. |

From what I've heard, Holmgren is not impressed by Claussen anyways, meaning this is all the more likely that they bite because despite signing Delhomme and Seneca Wallace, they still need a QB longterm. Jake will be a suitable starter until the suspension is over but no way they're thinking of him as a starter beyond a year or two. You think some Steelers fans hate Ben already? Let him show up in a Clevelend Browns uniform at Heinz...I LOVE IT. |

Not really. Dixon and Leftwich(MNF against us 2008) have locked it up quite well over there. |
Re: Steelers Actively Shopping Big Ben for a Top 10 Pick
I'll say this again trade big ben to raiders for their 1st and 4th and a next year pick. Then the steelers trade us their 4th rounder for JC, (they moved up with the raiders pick) all parties will be very happy!

Re: Steelers Actively Shopping Big Ben for a Top 10 Pick
I don't think that it'll take that much for a team to acquire Ben at this point.

Schefter didnt just say that the Steelers were receiving calls. He also said the steelers were contacting teams in the top 10. "contacting teams" is not the same as "receiving calls." I think "contacting teams" fits the definition of actively shopping. |

We won't know until we do.
This. its nice to know someone else is smart enough not to take what everyone says at face value. The only thing I have beleived 100% from a coach/GM/Owner in the past week was Jerry Jones saying Tebow sucked. And I only beleived that because the man was drunk. It would not surprise me at all to see Holmgren take Clausen. |
Re: Steelers Actively Shopping Big Ben for a Top 10 Pick
We still have our first rounder...maybe we can pull the trigger on this.
|
Re: Steelers Actively Shopping Big Ben for a Top 10 Pick
Why in the blue hell would we take Ben...I seriously hope not. The guy isnt even all that good as a QB. He had the defense to win him his superbowls. Skins have a solid, but not spectacular defense, and no offense to speak of. Ben would suck harder than JC at this point if he came here...

That would be believed. Its nice to know someone else is smart enough not to BELIEVE what someone says at face value if they can't spell. And it was twice, so we know it wasn't a typo. PS... As a side note, can't wait for the draft tomorrow! HTTR. |

Well this won't help Ben's trade value:

No shit!? Looks like Shann-a-llen missed out. They got ole broken up when they could've gotten a rapist. Smart move boys. He he he Just kidding. Ma-Dukes loves the Steelers. She's stopped watching them now. She doesn't like Ben. Can we get a name for him now? How about Uncle Ben? Everyone has a perveted drunked uncle that takes certain liberties with people?

Kind of off topic but if JC can't find anywhere to go is there a chance he comes back here to compete w/ Grossman? I just can't imagine this coaching staff going w/ Grossman if Mcnabb doesn't play all 16 games...which is a good possibilty. |

I can see him coming back as a back-up to McNabb. Shanny already said that he would be open to that. I don't think its going to hurt Shanny's feeling any if Jason is the back-up. It depends on whether Campbell can swallow going from starter to back-up. With all he's already been through and how he's handled it, he might... But then again I'd be pretty pissed if I got shafted like that. |

Tebow would be perfect for Pittsburgh especially now that they want to get back to the ground game.

Rams. They would be stupid to pass up on him especially since they need a QB, and this might be the HC's last yr if he doesn't do a lot better then last yr. |

Rams have already said they're not interested.

Lets see. 4th overall for an "alleged" rapist or 37th overall for McNabb. Hmmmmmmm? Let me get back to you on that. In the meantime if I'm the Steelers I'm finding some way to bring in Tebow. Weather it be acquiring the 8th overall pick and trying to trade down or using my second round pick to trade back up into the first round. Tebow is such a great fit for Pittsburgh without Ben it's ridiculous. Lots of Shotgun, simple reads, and an emphasis on the running game. |
Re: Steelers Actively Shopping Big Ben for a Top 10 Pick
Lets say we didn't have McNabb would this had been a better trade for us? BR for our 4th pick?
No way I want this animal in B & G.
From a strictly performance stand-point, who do you think you get, the 2006 & 2008 guy or the 2007 & 2009 guy? Do you get the guy who led the league in INTs (2006) or sacks (2009), or do you get the guy who drives your team down the field late in the 4th Qtr to win a SB? With his suspension and baggage is it worth it? IMO, no way. Remember the saying, "You don't change a leopard's spots." There may be more issues that haven't come out yet. And if this guy hasn't learned after the motorcycle crash and the Vegas incident, he's a hard-head who won't learn from his most recent incident. |
