Awesome Quote!!
Sorry if this was already posted, but Kyle Shanahan's quoate makes me feel great about our team direction. When was the last time you heard something like this? It was always about the scheme before.
Tight end Fred Davis emerged as a target for the Redskins in the 2009 after Chris Cooley suffered a season-ending ankle injury in October. But now, with Cooley healthy, there are questions about how the Redskins will manage the position. "The only position where one guy is out there is quarterback," offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan said following the team's first minicamp. "Whatever it is, our best player is going to be out on the field. If we feel two tight ends are better than three receivers, we'll put two tight ends out there and go with two receivers. It's whatever your personnel is, and you have to adjust that way as a coach." |

Re: Awesome Quote!!
Sounds like a pretty standard response from a coach.
|
Re: Awesome Quote!!
I think we'll see a lot of 2 TE looks, with guys as talented as Cooley and Davis you just have to get them on the field.
|
Re: Awesome Quote!!
I'd really like to see one of them standing up in the slot occasionally, use them kinda like Indy uses Dallas Clark

Exception Zorn!!!. He designed player personnel groupings via connect the dot and pretend I am bill Walsh, Campbell is Miontana, and Thomas is Jerry Rice method. His scheme was so pristine in his mind he could use anyone anywhere at anytime and if they follow his directions it will be sucessful. Kyle, that is a standard response but it is good coaching using personnel. I am encouraged. Common sense. |

Shame his father didn't think like that before insisting on a switch to the 3-4. :frusty: |

Or rotate them often so there is fresh legs on the field. |

:frusty:
They aren't completely switching Haslett has said that multiple times, he will adjust to the personnel too! They will use multiple 4 man fronts. |
Re: Awesome Quote!!
Just heard Cooley on a podcast addressing the 2 TE issue. He says they will run plays to get guys open more by adjusting to their talent. The previous coaching staff depended on the scheme to get wins. In other words, just run the play and it will be successful no matter the personell. I would expect to see the best players on the field on the plays designed to get the most out of them.
Shame his father didn't think like that before insisting on a switch to the 3-4.
:frusty:
I wish we could get over this issue. There has been no lying about M.Shanahan liking the 3-4. It was even reported that he went to the Steeler's and Patriots camp last yr to see how they ran it. I honestly don't see how this will be a huge concern. Meaning we have players with talent. Teams pick players out of college all the time not knowing if they will work out or not. But for some reason we are up in arms about players who we already know have talent to play not being able to play in our 3-4? I don't have a problem with the 3-4 and am happy they are finally changing to it. The scheme is harder to disect and figure out where the rush is coming from vs. the 4-3 which is a more stringent defense and teams can deteremine where the rush is coming from. My only concern is Haslett. Will he be good enough to put together a decent 3-4 defensive scheme? |
Re: Awesome Quote!!
Ok, so Mike Shannahan said that they were going to pencil Trent Williams in at LT but OC Kyle Shannahan has stated that a 2 time Pro Bowler like Cooley has to earn his playing time.
What's wrong with that picture or have I taken the quote out of context? |
Re: Awesome Quote!!
All I read is there's going to be competition, he didn't say "Cooley needs to earn time".
Penciling someone in isn't exactly a ringing endorsement either. TW is going to have to earn his time too. |

I really don't understand why this isn't more clear for some people. I will complain about transitioning to a 3-4 when I see us lining up in it the whole game. I expect we will see a lot more shifts, and aggressive packages then what we have seen recently. Green Bay made a successful shift in one season, even though they were saying the same thing last off-season. I don't know that I necessarily trust Haslett to pull it off, but I am fairly confident we have the players to run a succesful (top 10) defense. |

Yes he is penciled in (to a position where we are desperately lacking), but MS quickly followed up saying that HOPEFULLY he earns it. That seems like all they are saying to the players, earn your spot. I am good with that. |

I will revolt if we don't do that. |

Re: Awesome Quote!!
davis, thomas, and kelly they have never had a professional NFL head coach, offensive coordinator, or receivers coach in their entire NFL career. Now, they have two proven geniuses filling those first two roles. the ade jimoh of wr coaches, stan "bad penny" hixon has finally been kicked out of redskins park. i'm not sure mccardell will be a great WR coach, but he's an upgrade over his predecessor by default. i am very exicted about what our 2nd round trio from 2008 can accomplish now that they have qualified men coaching them and calling plays. I fully expect Devin Thomas to become a stud in 2010. While we can count on Moss to be a #2 guy this year, i hope Kelly can surplant him by 2011. If not, i'm sure we could bring in Eddie Royal in the offseason (i think his contract will be up and i doubt Denver tries hard to keep him).

I just read a really good quote on Peter King's MMQB -- apparently Tyson Alualu was asked what he had to say to those reporters who were calling him the biggest reach in the draft and he responded "I agree" .... hahaha what a dolt

he said he'd see how the LT position would look with him after penciling him in
Clever, I didn't hear Shanny say that thanks for the info. I was just kinda upset when NFLN said that Cooley had to fight for his job the other night. You know how fans are about their favorites. After some thought I guess that it is better for the team...besides Cooley shouldn't have any problem re earning his spot. If he doesn't then Davis was better. |

I agree Angry. Besides, Cooley hasn't exactly had a lot of competition since he's been here. I think he'll be even better! |
Re: Awesome Quote!!
well he basically said we'll see how he helps us there or something to that effect
basically if he's not helping us there, we'll try something else is what I take from it I know it's weird thinking that a guy as good as Cooley has to compete for his spot but one thing we've had an issue with over the years is guys basically being guaranteed spots from year to year. |
Re: Awesome Quote!!
Having the ability to adjust should be good for production, can't go wrong with that one.

The best song to get a mid to late 20s elementary school teacher drinking at TGI Fridays at 530pm on a Thursday to go home with you to. |

The article wasn't worded very well, is McNabb cousins with Mitchell or with Davis? I thought it was Mitchell.

The long sentence makes it harder, but it appears to point to Mitchell, which would be correct. |
