Offseason predictions
No this thread is not a response to us losing to the lions, or the mcnabb benching. I just love to predict the future. I predict that there will be a big roster turnover next year. Next year is a key year for many players to be cut, not-resigned, traded, resigned, or extended. These are the players I feel have potential to receive a contract-change of some sort.
People whose contracts are expiring (according to the salary cap section on this website) McNabb- I know his numbers do not reflect it, but I feel he is doing a great job and just has little talent around him to work with. He is a winner, and I would be upset if we did not extend him by at least 2-3 more years. I think he gets a 2-3 year deal done. McIntosh- I hope he gets a new contract, but I have a feeling he will be seeking a huge payday that I hope he does not get. I think he will stick around. Rabach- He is junk, and does not deserve to stick around, but we have so many o-line problems I think he will get a short-term low-money deal. Sellers- He is productive but very old. I think he gets a 1 year deal. Brown- I think he gets extended, but hope it will not be big money. He is still hurt, and we do not know how he will do next year. Heyer- Gets a backup deal Moore- Gets a backup deal Doughty- Gets a backup deal Golston- Gets a backup deal Blades- Gets a backup deal People who have potential to be cut/traded Haynesworth- I personally do not think he will be cut or traded. Our D-line i too bad, and nobody will give up high draft picks for a 30 year old 350 lb man with attitude issues. We need his impact, he is here to stay next year. Dockery-Gone, is due 5 mil and isnt even starting over our POS guards. Carter- I'm 50-50 on him, I need to see how the new CBA is going to be structured to see if he will stick around. He is not close to worth his contract, but it is a net loss if we cut him and I am not sure but I think he might be the best option to start. Kelly-Gone, not good, supposedly poor work ethic, and injury prone. People who might be up for an extension or demand a trade if they do not get. Landry- is entering his 5th year and if he keeps it up will be coming off an all-pro year. Rogers- is going to be a 6th year starter that I feel playing solid football who is making 1 mil his last year. There are also many journeymen on our team right now such as...buchanon, lichtensteiger, hicks, etc... I honestly have no idea what their contract situation is like, if there are any other journeymen FA's next year we can get to do better, and therefore have no idea what we will do with them. |
Re: Offseason predictions
Tooooo early... A lot can change this season.

Re: Offseason predictions
I predict there will be alot of comings and goings in the offseason. I'm really stepping out on a limb on this one.
I think we are in a bit of a rebuilding phase and the coaches know it. They're smart, they know. It was a busy offseason last year and will be again this year. We've got more holes than draft picks. So we may see some FA's this year too. I don't know about McNabb. I was guessing yes, then now maybe no. Portis is gone, if i had to guess. Hopefully we'll focus on: Center, Nose Tackle, Guard, RB, WR, damn that's alot. Maybe CB too. |
Re: Offseason predictions
Barring a lockout, I predict that in the upcoming off-season:
1. We will draft players; 2. We will sign some free-agents; and 3. Cut some veterans. Further, I predict that some of the players we draft, sign or cut in the off-season will be offensive or defensive players. |
Re: Offseason predictions
The Shannihans's are history!
Bruce is a dead man! |
Re: Offseason predictions
This thread would have been better timed next Monday, with the bye week and no football game to discuss from the prior weekend.
I'll throw in my thoughts here in a couple of days. |
Re: Offseason predictions
If we're going to discuss anyone's offseason this early, it should be Dallas'. They're the first team to officially call 2010 a lost season. We're still in good shape. We've made improvements and progress and will make more in the second half. Please go, Rabach. |
Re: Offseason predictions
Wow,
I figured this was a look at last year's offseason and the predictions right or wrong. Are we really getting a thread about the next off season with 8 games to play. Ridiculous. Like GTripp said, maybe next week. |
Re: Offseason predictions
Apologies for the hijack..........

Re: Offseason predictions
Hey guys, on behalf of the NFLPA, I wanted to encourage you to have your voice heard and try to participate in the most important decision that can be handed down in the offseason: ending the lockout.
As I'm sure a lot of you know, we're under 100 days away from the termination of the current CBA. We'd like you and all other fans to sign your names to this petition (at nfllockout.com) to prove to the owners just how strong the outcry is for football next year. |
Re: Offseason predictions
Thanks NFFL, I'll check it out

Re: Offseason predictions
Speaking of the lockout am I the only one who, every time there are news about 18-game season or games abroad, feels like yelling at the top of my lungs: MAKE SURE THERE'S NO F*CKING LOCKOUT BEFORE DISCUSSING ANYTHING ELSE YOU MORONS!!
|
Re: Offseason predictions
An offseason thread already? We're still in season and in the playoff picture, BUT sure, I'll play. We draft Noel Devine late in the draft, and he becomes the next 1500 yard/15 TD Shannyback.

I say no to 18. Thats too many games especially for the teams that are done by Thanksgiving. 16 makes sense, who wants a team that goes 4-14? yuck |

Just wait until next week's "2011 OTAs Haynesworth Edition: Let the Obsession Begin" thread, with special guest Kevin Sheehan. |
Re: Offseason predictions
This "rental" players will be gone in my opinion:
Galloway Rabach Holliday Daniels Hunter Smith Bidwell Hicks Furrey |
Re: Offseason predictions
I hope they don't go to 18 games. I wouldn't mind an 18 week season with 2 byes and starting labor day weekend....but otherwise no thanks.

I agree Okie. Damn too many good young players gone for the season with the current 16. 18 will further damage careers for the short or long term just to make an extra buck. Greed is watering down the overall quality of the NFL product, along with too many yellow flags. |

So, kick the Jaguars, Lions, Cowpies, and Bills out of the NFL and it won't be so watered down! :Flush: (Water going down!) |

You can add the NFC West to that list. |

If Kenny Tate leaves Maryland early, I predict that we make a play to draft him to give us a big playmaker with lots of range at FS.

There aren't going to be OTAs. That is one reason I think Al is back next year. |
Re: Offseason predictions
2 Pages and no mention of VJax? I guess it's only worth it if we have to give up draft picks for him. Lol. Anyway being the resident draft freak (not expert mind you) I've started looking at guys we might draft in the middle of the first round to the middle of the second round
Julio Jones - WR - Bama - A 6'4 deep threat with a good head on his shoulders. Route running and ball skills still need a little work but with proper coaching he can be our very own version of VJax, minus the DUI's Adrian Clayborne - 3-4 DE/4-3 DT - With Haynesworth all but gone and the team still reeling from the 3-4 transition the team will be hard pressed not to at least attempt to add a blue chip defensive player that fits their new system. One of the most dominant players in college football he's an ideal fit for the 3-4. Clayborne is a high motor guy that does everything well, yet at the same time he's not elite in any particular area. Anthony Castonzo - OT - Boston College - Might be to early to consider drafting another tackle since next year we'll have a healthy Jamaal Brown with a second year Trent Willliams but Castonzo is an agile blocker that understands angles, ie he's a great fit for a zone scheme. Then again this could easily be one of those guys that's rated high going in and ends up being a 3rd or 4th round pick. Dont'a Hightower - ILB - Bama - Experience in a 3-4, knows how to make calls and read defenses. Has the size, plays hard, not elite in any particular area but does everything well. Only problem is he's coming off a serious knee injury. Andrew Jackson - G - Fresno State - Quick agile guard projected around the 3rd or 4th round, could easily last longer seeing as how a lot of the guys projected in that range tend to fall on draft day. Ryan Mallet - QB - Arkansas - Kind of a shot in the dark here but no one expected Shanny to draft Cutler a year after Plummer went to the Pro Bowl. Mallet has a strong arm and experience in a pro system. Personally reminds me of Matt Schuab. Rahim Moore - FS - UCLA - Rangy safety with good ball skills. 10 int's in 2009. Unfortunately there are no true early round NT prospects. The closest we have right now is a few overweight guys from small schools with huge character issues and work ethic problems. In other words don't expect the team to have the option of drafting a Dan Williams like prospect. |
Re: Offseason predictions
Boot Haynseworth.
Cut Portis. Draft OL and RB. Find FA recievers. |
Re: Offseason predictions
I predict that by June 30th I will be anxiously awaiting the next season, dreading the off-season lockout, and be filled with Kool-aid believing we will be NFC East champs and SB bound.

Re: Offseason predictions
I predict the Redskins will go after 1 big name WR in the off season...
Not Moss,TO,Edwards,Jackson or anyone we have had an opportunity to get this season via F/A or through trade. It will be a player like Fitzgerald who's a free agent. Somebody with good character...I don't think Shanny wants any prima donna's. Why he tried to get rid of Brandon Marshall... Someone like Fitz or Lee Evans or a Kenny Britt/Nate Washington... Maybe a Devry Henderson or so... I don't see us drafting a WR in the 1st or 2nd round. I see us drafting on the Lines on O or D...We could use some Guards,NT or possibly even a LB. I do have a sneakin' suspicion that Shanny wants RB Mark Ingram however... No real reason why I think that, but I think he would be a very good fit in this Offense and system. Problem is...He will probably be a 1st round pick. I think if Ingram were to slip to the 2nd round though...Shanny might go after him. Certainly not his "MO" as he usually gets these guy in the later rounds like 4th,5th and later, but Ingram is a talent you can build an offense around. If we somehow draft a QB...I think it will be in the 5th or later...(won't have a 3rd or 4th unless that changes somehow) But overall and not really knowing what round we will draft guys...I do see us targeting the follow positions somewhere in the draft no matter the round. QB(if they like who is there a lot) RB Any on O-Line,but mostly G or C WR (Maybe....I actually think we won't,but I'll put it here cause it's an obvious need....think we will address this in FA personally) LB and possibly Safety and or CB (Carlos is a free agent and we really don't know who that other safety next to Landry is going to be) Horton? Moore? Doughty? Macho? Russell? I personally like Moore the best as I think he's the best overall player,so if he plays well..we may let Safety go.. What will be the most interesting thing in the off season, will be what trades we make to pick up extra draft picks? Do we trade fat Al? Do we somehow tag Carlos and trade him? Do we trade Moss to get younger? What about Portis? Do we trade Cooley or Davis? Do we make any trades to stock up on draft picks? The real question should be...Are there any players we have, that a team would trade a reasonably GOOD draft for? I mean seriously...we traded our starting QB for the last 4 years a 4th round pick for the year 2794...I know he sucks, but damn... Can we get anything for the 2011 draft,is what I want to know? |
Re: Offseason predictions
Ace,
I don't think the Cards let Fitz walk, he's their major offensive weapon. Can't see Shanahan drafting a first round RB, I think it'd be a bad idea if he does so. This team desperately needs a true 3-4 nose tackle, but you're right, they do need interior linemen. And I think out of all the players you listed, Haynesworth is the only one that is worth trading and may get something in return. |
Re: Offseason predictions
Primary Needs:
1.NT 2.RB 3.WR 4.C or Guard 5.DE If Carlos leave via free agency, CB be no. 2 on my list We need depth all over |
Re: Offseason predictions
I know a lot on here disagree, but we need to go after OL and DL in the first and second round. The last 2-3 years, OL and DL have been given more priority in the draft, and we need to make our move early. Shoring up the OL with really good young guys will give us the continuity we need along the line for years to come. Average running backs put up All-Pro numbers behind great lines. Look at Mike Bell when he was in Denver for an example. In the latter rounds, go after the BPA no matter the position. There will be alot of talented players available late in FA that we will be able to get cheap to fill the rest of the wholes.
Players I think should be cut/traded Galloway Heyer Docker Rabach Hicks R. Williams Beck Sellers Portis Carriker Haynesworth Holliday Doughty Buchanon |
Re: Offseason predictions
Galloway was cut last week.

Keep in mind, we only have 2 picks in the first 4 rounds. Hopefully 2 more picks will make the team. Also keep in mind, that we will need even more players after injuries. Also keep in mind that we very likely might loose some players to FA. I just don't see every one of these guys gone. Doughty, Buchanon, Carriker, Heyer IMO are all definately going to stay at least 1 more year. |

That is why I said those are the players I would cut. And teams have released double digit number of players before. They don't all have to be released/cut. Some could be traded. Some of them would be worth 5th -7th round picks. |
Re: Offseason predictions
AH is the only one from your list with any trade value.
|
Re: Offseason predictions
Cut them all. Use the 1st and 2nd round pick for a RT and Center. Shore up the OL as best we can with young talent. Bring in a bunch of UFA's. We don't have crap now so whats the harm? get younger and healthier and faster.
Look for a NT in FA and late in the draft (5th round). Pick up a FS, and LB late in the draft or FA. EDIT: I forgot WR.... pick up Vince Jackson and Whosyourmama. Cut Moss. |

None besides haynesworth are worth squat. One of our only 2 16 game starters on that list we swapped 6th round picks to get. We got rid of double digit guys last year. I just dont see us doing it two years in a row. The talent just isnt out there to upgrade on that many players. If they are on the market, that MOST likely means that their original team didn't value them that high. |
Re: Offseason predictions
Heyer: Keep him
Docker: See if you can trade him, will be tough though. Rabach: Cut Hicks: Cut R. Williams: Cut Beck: I'd keep I guess Sellers: CUTTTTTTTT Portis: Keep Carriker: Keep Haynesworth: Sigh... Holliday: Cut Doughty: Cut Buchanon: Keep Many of these guys weren't meant to be long term fixes anyway. |

There are others especially on the OL since none are zone blockers or cut blockers. Most are man to man blockers. |

He was a nice feel good story but he has not lived up to his supposed talent. Unless they can prove he's a better at Guard I see no reason keeping him. I like your other cuts though but would also add Portis. Unless his contract is going to hurt us I cut him. I know about his value that everyone keep drilling about but it's only pass blocking. In MS's system anyone can run and look good. Plus Portis has not finished out a full season in the last few seasons. Groin or hamstring flip a coin that will be next yrs injury. Moss as well. |
