That'd be great if he could finally get a HC opportunity

Re: Could Grimm get his first HC shot with the Panthers in 2011?
I thought Cowher was the top choice for the Panthers gig.

Re: Could Grimm get his first HC shot with the Panthers in 2011?
Although I'd like to see Grimm get a shot, I think the Jim Harbaugh HC / Andrew Luck # 1 pick to Carolina angle is better.
That being said, once Luck is the pick we should be able to work a reasonable trade for Jimmy Clausen :D |

Luck, he's already said that his plan is to go for four years to get his degree (that's just three football seasons, but still), and I don't think Harbaugh is going to be in any hurry to get the heck out of someplace where he can win the nat'l championship next season with some luck (and Luck). I think, ultimately, he's coaching somewhere else in 2012, but I think he's turning down all job offers for one more season. And when he does that, Luck will stay in school. Mallett and Newton are likely draft entrants, one would think. |
Re: Could Grimm get his first HC shot with the Panthers in 2011?
Hope he gets a head job. It's well deserved. I don't think Cowher is going to Carolina. I think he's headed to Houston. Carolina is in rebuilding mode where Houston is pretty close.

Grimm deserves a HC job .. i love Shanny but that would have been cool to see big Russ come back to DC ... The Cardinals will continue to drop off if they lose him

Re: Could Grimm get his first HC shot with the Panthers in 2011?
I wanted him instead of MS, but its all good. I just would love to have an old hog prowling our sidelines.

Re: Could Grimm get his first HC shot with the Panthers in 2011?
Was he even interviewed when Zorn was hired?

Re: Could Grimm get his first HC shot with the Panthers in 2011?
i dont think so

Re: Could Grimm get his first HC shot with the Panthers in 2011?
If Grimm gets the job, I don't think it's inconceivable that he could become our HC one day. Shanny's been fired before and I could see Bruce Allen wanting him if he shows promise in Carolina. Maybe we could finally get an o-line in here. Either way...I hope he gets the job and does well.

Re: Could Grimm get his first HC shot with the Panthers in 2011?
The abject collapse of the Arizona Cardinals' offense this season will not be a positive entry on Grimm's resume if he goes interviewing...
Generally, "hot cooridnators" in the head coaching market tend to come from successful teams. Cards are probably one of the 5 worst... |
Re: Could Grimm get his first HC shot with the Panthers in 2011?
Being the coach of the miserable Cardinals hurts but that isn't his fault. Honestly, if I were Grimm I wouldn't want the Panther job.

Gotta place most of the blame with the decision makers in charge who thought Derek Anderson was a viable replacement for Kurt Warner. In other words, the fingers are going to be pointing at Whisenhunt. |
Re: Could Grimm get his first HC shot with the Panthers in 2011?
It's Cowhers job to loose. As sad as it sounds all the Panthers have to make sure they do is follow the Rooney rule and then introduce Cowher the next day.
|
Re: Could Grimm get his first HC shot with the Panthers in 2011?
I don't get the feeling Cowher wants the Carolina job.

Re: Could Grimm get his first HC shot with the Panthers in 2011?
In no way is the collapse of the Cardinals offense the fault of Russ Grimm. That is the objective truth.
Hiring decisions for coaches are "not always" based on objective truth or even rational facts. (See events surrounding the hiring of Jim Zorn for an example here.) When offensive coodinators or defensive coordinators get their first head coaching jobs, they USUALLY come from teams that have been successful in the year prior to their hiring. (That statement does not include the situation where a team stinks, fires its coach, puts in one of its coordinators who does sufficiently well to get the job despite the fact that the team stunk the year before.) The fact is that the Cardinals are a bad team this year. At the moment they are 3-8; looking at their schedule, they will be fortunate to finish 5-11; they might completely go in the tank and finish 3-13. The Cardinals' offense does not put the Fear of God into any of the league's defensive coordinators this season. That too is a fact... And so, when the NFL game of Coaching Musical Chairs begins, Russ Grimm will be handicapped by those situations. I don't think it will make him "unhirable" but it will make the job of selling himself to an NFL owner/GM a bit tougher than it would be if the Cards team and offense were very good. Look around the league at the other teams that are 3-8 (or close to 3-8). How many of their coordinators do you think will be "hot candidates" for the open coaching positions come January 2011? Forget whether or not it is fair, Russ Grimm gets lumped into that category of coaches as of December 2010 - - because that is where his team finds itself. If Bill Cowher takes the Carolina job, I would not be shocked to see Grimm leave Arizona and head to Carolina. I've been told that by more than one little birdie... |
Re: Could Grimm get his first HC shot with the Panthers in 2011?
Cowher doesn't want to go to SC. I see him coaching NC State or Chapel Hill but not the Panthers.
Richardson definitely wants a first time HC because they are cheaper. |
Re: Could Grimm get his first HC shot with the Panthers in 2011?
Shoot I would love Grimm as our HC if Shanny doesn't work out, but Russ will be taken by then.
|
Re: Could Grimm get his first HC shot with the Panthers in 2011?
Still curious how you're defining successful, SC
