Re: Top 10 NFL head coaches
I guess it should be noted that this is not based just on last season.

Re: Top 10 NFL head coaches
fair list imo
|
Re: Top 10 NFL head coaches
Hey we didn't get shafted this time on an ESPN Top 10 list. Wait, Shanahan just posted something on his twitter.
@MikeShanahan BTW I seen some list rankin the top 10 coach that only ranked me 10th. F*** THEM im gonnadestroy the league next season HTTR |
Re: Top 10 NFL head coaches
Let's hope that Shanny ranks higher at this time next year.

Re: Top 10 NFL head coaches
A little high for Mike Smith whose teams haven't done dick in the playoffs. Same for Harbaugh. I like Lovie and Rex also but don't rings count for anything? Also Coughlin is a bit high for my taste. He gets average results from above average talent. With a better coach the Giants would be at the Patriots level over the past 8 yrs IMO.
|
Re: Top 10 NFL head coaches
I was ready to be pissed if i saw Jim Caldwell on the list....
I think Andy Reid is a little high and would put Mike McCarthy and Sean Payton above him. Overall hard list to argue with and definitely agree with number 1 and 2. Also Mike is the only one who only got an initial for his first name. |

3 straight winning seasons, 2 of which had more then 10 wins, in a tough division, with a young team, deserves a high ranking. This is a franchise that never had back to back winning seasons in it's history. |
Re: Top 10 NFL head coaches
Shanahan should be higher than Lovie Smith.

I didn't call him Rich Kotite but I still think it's a bit high. The franchises history has no bearing on him as a head coach, does it? |

What about taking a team that was in total disarray at 4-12 giving up over 50 sacks to a team that went 11-5 with a rookie QB and the same O-Line? Certainly that has to count for something. Anyway the team is young and he has been able to work wonders with them. I'd say he's right where he needs to be on that list. |

Re: Top 10 NFL head coaches
1. Mike McCarthy, Green Bay Packers
2. Bill Belichick, New England Patriots 3. Mike Tomlin, Pittsburgh Steelers 4. Sean Payton, New Orleans Saints 5. Andy Reid, Philadelphia Eagles 6. Rex Ryan, New York Jets 7. John Harbaugh, Baltimore Ravens 8. Mike Shanahan, Washington Redskins 9. Lovie Smith, Chicago Bears 10. Tom Coughlin, New York Giants McCarthy did an incredible job with a TON of key injuries in vital positions. Yes, he has Aaron Rodgers, but with the number of major losses his roster sustained and the team's ability to win big games...that shows that the coach is their key to success. He's the defending champ, and right now he looks like he belongs on top to me. Belichick is becoming the king of the regular season. Great resume, but what has he done lately? I almost moved Tomlin ahead of him too. Coughlin got downgraded because every year since they've won the SB, he loses his locker room and they go on a late-season slump that screws them out of the postseason. Shanahan showed a lot of coaching talent late last season with how many young, unknown players he was able to not only spot, but motivate to step up. Anthony Bryant, Macho Harris...even Anthony Armstrong and Ryan Torain. The Skins won some big games over the SB champ Packers, Dallas (at the time it was a big win), Philly, Chicago, Jacksonville...all in a rebuilding year with uncertainty at QB, during a transition from 4-3 to 3-4...and with an offensive line that could not be repaired in one offseason. He turned around the team's attitude and has started what is going to be a successful rebuilding of a franchise. The team scored 36 more points in 2010 than 2009, scoring 17 or more points in 9 games, even topping 30 a couple of times. We have not seen scores like that for years. He did a lot of good work, but there's more to be done. However, he's proven that he can still coach. Once he finishes getting the players he needs, this team will be tough to beat. |
Re: Top 10 NFL head coaches
.....so why rex ryan???
|
Re: Top 10 NFL head coaches
He's a good manager of chaos and bad personalities....probably because those are qualities he possesses himself.
|
Re: Top 10 NFL head coaches
If we're talking overall body of work, I don't know how Raheem Morris after one year makes it over guys like John Fox or even Dennis Erickson

IMHO....he did a better job, I like Fox but I just never thought of him as a "good Head coach" as for Erickson ....was a better college coach then in the NFL........again just an opnion.I also thought we were talking about coachs ....still in the NFL with their teams ...Fox hasn't coached a game yet in Denver. |
