Jamaal Brown Has Surgery..Again.

Per John Keim, Jamaal Brown had hip surgery and will be out another 4-6 weeks.

Re: Jamaal Brown Has Surgery..Again.

Washington Post's Mike Jones broke the news. Surgery was to replace a torn ligament in his hip.

Easy IR situation to me, he won't see the field this year.

Just cut bait with that dude; waste of a roster spot.

I agree. Well, on the plus side, there will be an injury settlement and we won't have to pay him his full salary.

Come on guys! Maybe if we give him the love and support he needs, he can get fully healthy and become a good player again!

/I see an injury settlement coming.

Cap-wise you're better off carrying him this year and dumping him next year. Just put him on IR.

Yeah, he is good as gone. Whether they IR him now and cut him in the next off-season or just simply cut him now is only question at hand now.

Think they can reserve PUP him for now

That's what I figured. With cap space a premium next year (Thanks again Mr. Mara!), IR him and dump him later.

I admit, I was one of the JB cheerleaders when we signed him. Not as bad as the TJ Duckett or Jason Taylor trades but certainly a move that did not pan out.

Hindsight is 20/20 but I remember being all like: "they shouldn't be wasting draft picks they should be rebuilding" and most everyone else being all like: "you're a fool if you don't think this was a steal of a trade" and me being all like: "that's how they all start out"

Jamaal Brown did look like a good move, until I heard his injury on his hip was career threatening...then it turned into a bad move.

Hell send him to the jets, they need a RT ;)

If we put him on IR doesn't that take away his cap number. Like the team still has to pay him his salary but he's not counted as part of the team in regards to the cap?

JoeRedskin 08-27-2012 11:28 AM

Re: Jamaal Brown Has Surgery..Again.

Not the cap guru, but pretty sure that's not true. If he's on the team, he counts against the cap.

Doesn't take up a roster space, but that's about the only benefit.

He wont play another snap for us. Do whatever maximizes cap room next year. The front end of the free agent market will obviously be stronger, and we can spend that money then.

Re: Jamaal Brown Has Surgery..Again.

Let's hope Tyler Polumbus will hold up. Brown has shown for the third year in a row that he can't stay healthy for a full 16 game schedule. It's not his fault. Injuries happen but he nor Mike Shanahan should never have counted on Brown ever getting healthy. His career has basically been over since 2009 long before he came to Washington.
Just cut bait with that dude; waste of a roster spot.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Brown is a bust. Injuries happen in the NFL and he has landed on IR each of his three years with the Redskins. Brown has shown that he can't stay healthy and Mike Shanahan should have never traded away a 3rd round pick for him. Brown wasn't even worth a 7th round pick.

Re: Jamaal Brown Has Surgery..Again.

I never understood this trade. It smells of Vinny Cerrato. He didn't play the entire season before we signed him. Why give NO picks for a guy coming off an injury? Awful move by the front office. Time to move on. Polumbus has played better than I thought but isn't a long term solution.

Chico23231 11-28-2012 08:44 AM

Re: Jamaal Brown Has Surgery..Again.

Yeah gotta agree, bad move by Shanny and the FO. The early Shanny moves of JB and Donavan didnt work out, but oh well at this point. The team is playing better without both and have moved on.

MTK 11-28-2012 08:50 AM

Re: Jamaal Brown Has Surgery..Again.

Oh well you win some and lose some. At the time they obviously thought he was worth the risk otherwise they don't make the move. Sometimes injuries are a tricky thing.

SmootSmack 11-28-2012 08:54 AM

Re: Jamaal Brown Has Surgery..Again.

People forget that the Saints tendered JB at a 1st and a 3rd, so the Redskins actually negotiated down to a 3rd/4th and whatever round Paul was drafted in

The actual trade wasn't the bad move made by the FO at the time. The bad move was when they resigned him in the previous off-season KNOWING he was a injury liability, and then counted on him with no solid backup (polumbus) plan in place. Skinsfan, this doesn't smell of Vinny one bit. Not even close.

Re: Jamaal Brown Has Surgery..Again.

3rd round pick for a player coming off major injury? Yeah that's a pretty bad gamble imo and then to pay him? 2 extremely poor decisions. But oh well at this point, we obviously moved on.

MTK 11-28-2012 09:06 AM

Re: Jamaal Brown Has Surgery..Again.

It's easy to say from the outside that it was a bad decision, and in hindsight too of course. Obviously the team doctors would have reviewed all of his medicals and determined his medical risk was worth the shot. Plenty of guys come back from injury to regain their form.

Chico23231 11-28-2012 09:10 AM

Re: Jamaal Brown Has Surgery..Again.

Its a gamble either way. That 3rd round pick coulda been a developed Right Tackle by now, but you cant win them all.

The trade was indeed a gamble, but had he stayed healthy and performed at a high level, he would be lauded as a genius. You guys are only saying so due to hindsight.

That said, this is why you don't follow one mistake with another. Once the got injured while here on the Skins, Mike should have corrected the mistake and moved onto something else. Nope, he followed a mistake with another mistake of resigning him. You can forgive one mistake, but making two mistakes with the same person. Not so much.

That 3rd rounder could be a bust right now too. Shoulda, coulda, woulda.

Yup. Other teams, including the Saints, thought he would return to form. And if he had returned to form, we would have one heck of an OL right now.

There are lots of hindsight arguments in this thread.

Saints ended up drafting Martez Wilson with the pick we sent them

Re: Jamaal Brown Has Surgery..Again.

From #72 to #79 (where we picked with a trade from Miami)
73 New England Patriots Stevan Ridley RB
74 New England Patriots Ryan Mallett QB
75 Seattle Seahawks John Moffitt G
76 Jacksonville Jaguars Will Rackley G
77 Tennessee Titans Jurrell Casey DT
78 St. Louis Rams Austin Pettis WR

OMG We Coulda Had Steven RIDLEY!!!
(we took Hankerson at 79)
What a bum trade! [/sarcasm]

REDSKINS4ever 11-28-2012 10:14 AM

Re: Jamaal Brown Has Surgery..Again.

The hell with it. It's time to move on and it's time for the Redskins to give Jammal Brown a injury settlement and cut their ties with him. Great player, but he was a player who has landed on IR the last three years. I don't even think Vinny Cerrato would have made this trade for him. But Cerratto was dumb enough to draft Malcolm Kelly after team physicians advised him not to.
