Training Camp 2017
Going, haven't decided when...kinda depends on work.
Here is a nice little blurb about our new Safety from Keim: "Safety D.J. Swearinger is very communicative in the secondary. He is decisive on his calls, too. He made one today at the last second to alert safety Su'a Cravens to drop while Swearinger ran up to cover a tight end with in the flat. It worked: the play was covered." Great news. On the other hand, this is not what I want to be reading: "For now, it looks as if three D-line jobs and possibly both inside linebacker spots are up for grabs. As he did during the spring, Joey Mbu lined up as the starting nose tackle. Ziggy Hood started at left end and Terrell McClain at right end. This is a change. Though Hood got first-team work during the spring, McClain (signed as a free agent) did not. Later, A.J. Francis replaced Mbu at the nose, and Matt Ioannidis and Stacy McGee played end. For nickel packages, Anthony Lanier and Jonathan Allen took some snaps." I really think we need him to be a true playmaker for this DL group to really improve, if he's not, who's going to ? |
Re: Training Camp 2017
Allen will earn his snaps, as well he should. Shouldn't be long until he moves up the depth chart.
|
Re: Training Camp 2017
Did they have pads on when those D line lineups were on the field? Because if not I don't care what was happening.
For trench play, nothing matters until you see the pads come on. |
Re: Training Camp 2017
Its just too early and working thru various combinations seems like the right thing to do for a rebuild. Want to see Allen earn it. Im really liking the depth for the DL rotation....
Looking to see who stands out on the Dline as camp goes on. |

Re: Training Camp 2017
I just can't get too exited about anything I hear out of camp. Glad football is here but wake me up in Sept.
I remember last year Breeland had about the best pre season out of anyone. Then he came out and stunk the majority of the year. Glad to see we have some depth at OLB. And looking for some of the guys from last years draft class to have good camps... Cravens, Doc and Fuller. |
Re: Training Camp 2017
Potentially, I feel like this could be the best offense we've put on the field since the 91 team. If Doc and Pryor can play up to their ability, then you have Reed and Crowder. How do you stop these guys? We have size, speed and run after the catch.

Re: Training Camp 2017
Running game is still a big question mark though. Best offense in the last 20 years goes to the 1999 team. Solid all around. If our Sooner stud pans out, it will be lights out !!!!

To me, the best case scenario is if we break camp and preseason and the most impressive player coming out is Perine. That would really get me going. |

Pryor is going to have a huge yr

Training facility in Richmond is a must, gotten better every year https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/football-insider/wp/2017/07/28/redskins-training-camp-day-2-can-pryor-and-doctson-match-numbers-of-jackson-and-garcon/?utm_term=.0e225e420ed4 Like hearing Swearinger as most impressive from Gruden so far. Also looks like JG is progressing well...ballin against Trent. |
Re: Training Camp 2017
Looks like my preseason training camp hero pick is off to a fast start per Keim:
Rookie report: Seventh-round corner Josh Holsey intercepted two passes during full-team drills. Holsey has worked mostly in the slot and has proven to be a quick learner. In one-on-one drills, Holsey has done a nice job turning and running with receivers. His ability to play the slot gives him a shot to make the roster. |

They better keep him if he keeps it up. |
Re: Training Camp 2017
we signed another db today giving us a total of 18 now.
|
Re: Training Camp 2017
Yeah but sadly most of those Defensive Backs will be cut either in preseason or that before week 1 hits.
|
Re: Training Camp 2017
Well, there will be some real competition in the defensive backfield. I wonder if this will be the end of Deangelo Hall?

He'd better switch to coaching ! Read that he's taken Hosley under his wing, coaching him from the sideline. He's on PUP list anyway, I feel like this is the time to make the switch for him. |

Keith Marshall is done
That is sad to hear, but with Perine on board he would have be let go anyway. Mack would have beaten him out. |
Re: Training Camp 2017
Nugget from Keim:
3. There's reason to feel good about the 2016 draft class, even after Marshall's injury. Receiver Josh Doctson and corner Kendall Fuller have looked good; Su'a Cravens is starting at safety, and defensive lineman Matt Ioannidis has looked bigger and stronger at end. He's done a nice job using that power to win battles, and he has a knack for finding the ball. Former general manager Scot McCloughan loved him last year, partly for his mindset. It's a good start for Ioannidis; where he takes it from here is up to him. |
Re: Training Camp 2017
Sounds like Doctson has been a beast.
|
Re: Training Camp 2017
the whole team sounds like they are coming into camp ready to go. Could be an exciting season for this team. They will be the underdogs in the division (other than Philly) and really have had back to back solid years. A little better defense and we could be making a deep playoff run. Might go put 50 on the Skins to reach the SB, just for the hell of it. :food-smil

Re: Training Camp 2017
With the exception of Marshall, things seem to be going pretty well at training camp. I'm very excited to see Pryor and Doctson on the field. Also very excited to see how our defense will be improved.
Every year, I say I need to go to training camp, years come and go and I never get a chance to go. |
Re: Training Camp 2017
Its weird how our roster is way better than last year when we were 1 game from the playoffs, but our predictions for this year are very low in a lot of publications. I think we come in 2nd. Giants in 1st and Cowboys in 3rd. With all 3 with good chance of playoffs.

Just read an article on ESPN Insider titled: "Predicting the results of every NFL team's boldest offseason move." Here is what they had to say about the Redskins: Washington Redskins The move: Not finding a way to improve relations with QB Kirk Cousins Prediction: Cousins' stats will suffer some in 2017 after the team lost coordinator McVay and key receivers, making it somewhat easier for the team to spin the situation when Cousins leaves as a free agent next offseason. And I thought one of the comments nailed it by saying: The Redskins part should have been about whether signing Terrelle Pryor was enough to make up for losing Jackson and Garcon, not just more pandering about Cousins not signing a long term contract. |

They are working more of a gossip angle, with really bad reporting and worst analysis. Hot takes rule with lil or no factual basis. The beat guys are probably the best stuff....like Keim and his counter parts. I rarely watch it and find myself going less and less to the webpage. I mean, its really bad now. Sportscenter as a show is completely the worst its every been. Look at the economics of the business of ESPN...the stumbles and poor decisions are legendary on what not to do. So, Why should I expect more other than Cousins low-hanging-fruit-analysis that really panders to someone who really doesn't know football...but recognizes the name Cousins as a QB. ESPN has gone from Icon, to tunnel vision, way to sure of itself, to most tabloid. Disney is so effing pissed. |

Re: Training Camp 2017
Well it never hurts to have the proverbial chip on the shoulder.
Pryor and Doctson > Garcon and Jackson. I think the biggest key to our success is Doctsons health and starting Zach Brown. |
Re: Training Camp 2017
Definitely a premature prediction, but I could definitely see Doctson and Pryor being an even better duo than Garçon and Jackson.

There are only so many passes to go around. If the running game gets better, there will be fewer balls to catch. Who will see a reduction? Reed, Chris T, Crowder?? A lot of people think Crowder will have breakout season. He had 67 for 847 last yer, he could easily go over 1,000 yards. |

If Doctson is healthy, big if until you see it, we'll have 3 explosive receivers and the best tight end in the game. I know i haven't seen him for us yet but i hope we sign Kirk long term and franchise Pryor if needed. If offense is healthy, Kirk should have a freaking field day most games. |
