advice for cutting the cord

Starting to look into my options to dump cable. Any suggestions? Basically I just want to be able to watch the NFL, Redzone, and during baseball season SNY for the Mets.

My daughter has the cable for internet only , they have a Netflix account and a Smart TV that is already set up for a whole bunch of stuff which I think they get through the Xbox set up. The bedrooms she has some sort of over the air antenna ,it seems to do ok for the local stuff.

.............this is in N. Carolina

I have Attnow which used to be called DirectvNow.
It’s alright but doesn’t have NFL network which was a recent loss.

If you go to an online cable company, check their local channels for your area. Not all of the big 4 are available everywhere.

Re: advice for cutting the cord

If I could get a package that included Netflix/Hulu, Comedy Central, MASN, NBCSN, NFL/NHL/MLB/NBA games for less than the cost of a DTV package I'd be cutting the cord too. Sports and Comedy Central accounts for 95% of what I watch nowadays.

Re: advice for cutting the cord

I don't pay a cable bill (have a flat rent, we have spectrum). But I recently got YouTube TV to watch FSU games that are on ACC Network. Then it came in handy for the Braves playoff games this week. Both started on the WC during working hours.

It works absolutely great on my phone but not on my tablet. Both are android devices. And its not my tablet because I watched MLB.tv all year on my tablet and it was awesome. So not sure what the issue is.

The user interface is very easy to use. If you don't plan on using it mainly on a tablet (that was my original intent) I'd recommend it. Apparently the DVR feature is pretty sweet too. I basically only use it for live sports so I can't vouch either way for that one.

Its $49.99 per month.

Currently using YouTube TV to watch sports and live tv. Half the price of cable and not as many useless channels I never watch. On top of that I have Neflix, Hulu, and Shudder and my monthly bill is still way cheaper than cable.

PlayStation Vue

Matty

Get PlayStation Vue then add MLB network in season. Vue is the best cable cutter.

Cable companies get you on the equipment rentals. I just bought fire sticks and used my ps4 on the tv in the basement.

I was paying fios $250 a month. Now my bill is 80 for 1GB internet per month plus 49 a month for Vue.

You can mix it up however you want put if anyone is still watching tv through a cable box you are getting screwed and you literally watching tv how the caveman did.

I cut the cord for about a year...paid 95 for WiFi from my cable provider and did the sling route with thru amazon prime. Then about a year ago my provider offer me 100 for cable and WiFi a month to return for the first year and 125 for the second. I took it and went back. I cut the cord originally because I was paying like 165 for both...and that’s just bullshit.

Re: advice for cutting the cord

One of the many things that pisses me off about cable is I wanted to add the Redzone but in order to do so I have to add a $20/month "gold tier" sports package. I only want the Redzone, why do I have to add 5 other channels I'll never watch?! I ended up doing the Redzone streaming option on my phone for $35 for the entire season.

Re: advice for cutting the cord

Cable and internet has become way too expensive. You really have to watch your subscription game too. When I cut the cord, I was using Sling...which was ok. The most aggravating thing was my HD antenna trying to get NBC was a challenge most the time.

I usually rotate through my Amazon Firestick Prime account HBO, Netflix and Showtime. Ill turn one on and the others off to catch up when I need.

Side note, Amazon Music subscription is awesome, mostly all the music I want for $8 a month

I like the fact Htown has kinda agree to a mafia-like "paying a point" a month for cable action.

Does the guy look like Paulie Walnuts?

I have one, tried it and it didn’t like it. Didn’t like how unreliable it was at times. And there’s the sketchy/illegal part of it. But if it’s working for you that’s great.

I had heard of jailbroken firesticks before but had never bought one or seen one used.Since the respondents here think I was getting ripped off I have been doing more research.I paid 85 bucks for my firestick and that included 4 months of programming which are supposed to expire in December.
So I am seeing people selling a lot of jailbroken firesticks for over 85 so I dont feel so bad now.
Also the youtube videos I watch on how to use them show that you have to go to different apps to do different things, mine is all integrated under one app so maybe he has some special setup and thats why he's charging I dont know, his app looks nothing like the ones I have seen on youtube.
I wasnt planning on renewing so we will see if programming still continues.
I already have comcast, just thought I would give this a try to see how it worked,it was worth the 85 investment just for the sunday ticket, everything else is a bonus, but as Matty said it doesnt always work right, but luckily it has worked so far for the football games

Totally, it took me all of 40 minutes to do it. Only reason it takes so long is because i have to type using my fire tv remote. Just google troy point he will show you how to do it.

Shit worked like at best 58% of the time, total crap shoot consistently had to keep finding new add ons that would work.

the interesting point is how is this dude collecting $10 bucks a month for this and what is he even doing outside of the first set up that would require $10 a month. He is paying a $120 a year to steal movies he could just rent in perfect 4K for $5.99. That is like 20 movie rentals, i doubt i even rent that many in a year. Talk about a sucker born every minute.

Bro you spent $85 plus $120 a year that is $205 with recurring payments. You are getting ripped off. LOL! I can't stop laughing. just google troypoint kodia. LOL!

Correction,if I would have kept paying him I would have been ripped off,but thanks for the heads up,it forced me to research it more,my total investment has been 85 so I dont consider that a ripoff

I was more picking on the guy who try to sell you waterfront property in Arizona. I thought it was cool at first then you realize it’s the most unstable thing ever and a waste of time. My buddy told me to watch a movie called A Quiet Place so I searched it on Kodia , find it excellent quality watch the whole movie. Go to work the next day tell him about it , he is like dude you just totally watched a movie that is not A Quiet Place, I watched some weird drama. LOL

The advice now, is if you have a job, keep em' all. And if you already cut them, tape them back together!!

Re: advice for cutting the cord

I actually went back to full cable (FIOS) it was cheaper. Cutting the cord just pulled the cable company's back into reality with their pricing. I was tried of juggling all the different subscriptions when i was cord cutting, shit Hulu for what my family wanted was $103 a month; F that. to be honest the nail in the coffin for me as far as cord cutting was the cancellation of PS Vue.

Thinking about cutting the cord - any advice? Not worried about all the shows I enjoy as I can find that with streaming, I am worried about losing Commanders/Caps games though. If I get Youtube TV with the Sunday Ticket would they blackout Commies games because I'm in market? Not sure best deal to watch Caps games either.

MASN is what you lose ; so national games will be hard to come by

If you do the Hulu Live subscriptions with Disney and EsPn Plus ; so much sports

I am shocked folks still have cable

I'm in Va and I get the games on regular TV with Youtube. With you tube you get your local channels.
