Washington Football Team Defense 2021
It looks like in base defense, Bostic will get another year as starting MLB. I'm penciling in Benjamin St-Juste as a starter in nickel defense.
My predictions: Base 4-3 Lineup: CB: Fuller FS: Reaves SS: Curl CB: Jackson WLB: Davis MLB: Bostic SLB: Holcomb DE: Young DT: Allen DT: Payne DE: Sweat Nickel 4-3 Lineup: CB: St-Juste SLOT CB: Fuller FS: Reaves SS: Curl CB: Jackson WLB: Davis MLB: Holcomb DE: Young DT: Allen DT: Payne DE: Sweat If Juste can play and Reaves can extend his solid play, this defense should be real real fun. This should be a damn good group. Hopefully we can still add 1 or 2 more vets for depth. |
Re: Washington Football Team Defense 2021
Defense better be ready to bring it because the schedule doesn't look fun. As good as they were last year at times they still have room to take a big step forward.

Re: Washington Football Team Defense 2021
JDR is saying Collins is back at SS, assuming he's 100% recovered.
I'd be interested to see if Moreland can step up or if he's always going to be a #4 CB (not a bad thing as such). He showed promise in his 1st season but seems to have plateaued. |
Re: Washington Football Team Defense 2021
Listened to the Keim interview with Ben St-Juste. Wow…smart dude, really impressive. Think he can make an impact. Seems super poised and driven
|
Re: Washington Football Team Defense 2021
Secondary should feature some inter changeable pieces with Collins-Curl-Fuller.
I dont think Reaves or St Juste start week 1 but Im sure with injuries they will get starts by seasons end. |

Re: Washington Football Team Defense 2021
I think the dude we just signed from Miami will beat out Reaves for FS.
And most likely, Collins plays ahead of Curl. But either way, I like this D. A lot. We should be in every game we play. |
Re: Washington Football Team Defense 2021
I think the D takes a step back this year - not because they won't be better, because I think they will be - but due to the competition they will face. They likely won't be facing as many 2nd and 3rd string QBs as they did last year, and the schedule is full of really good number 1s.
The offense is going to have to take a couple steps forward for this team to repeat in the NFCE. |

Fields and the guy for the 49ers. Sorry, I don’t count Dalton with him being a 10 year vet. Had a couple games where backups came in due to injury, but that happened to us too. Sorry guys, that argument doesn’t hold water to me. Our defense was pretty good. It’s ok to say it. |

Wins: C Wentz, A Dalton/B Dinucci, A Dalton, N Mullens, B Roethlisberger, J Hurts/N Sudfeld, J Burrow/R Finley
Losses: R Wilson, K Murray, B Mayfield, J Goff, T Brady, L Jackson, D Jones (x2), M Stafford, T Bridgewater |

Defense didn’t lose the Seattle, Carolina, first Giant game, or second one for that matter. The D had three bad games last year. Detroit, Rams and the playoff game. Look at the 2019 season. We’re headed in the right direction and I’m not sure why fans of the team feel the need to bash the best part of the team. They aren’t the best D of all time or anything, but considering everything that occurred last off season and during the season, we are obviously much better. |
Re: Washington Football Team Defense 2021
The D was good, and like I said they will probably be better this year. It's ok to say that, and it's also ok to acknowledge this team didn't really beat a good, healthy team last year.

I’m aware. But it’s also a big step forward from losing to everyone good or bad like we have for the last several years. |
Re: Washington Football Team Defense 2021
The D carried this team as far as they could last year. All I'm saying is the offense has to take a couple steps forward for them to compete this year, given the schedule. Not bashing at all...

I think they will. One that can’t be much worse and we’ve made a lot of decent upgrades. We won’t be boring, that’s for sur. |

Yes you are right, also keep in mind that last year was the first for a (defensive minded) coaching staff to really get to know all of its players strengths/weaknesses in THEIR system with THEIR coaching. Expect to see a giant leap and most of our star talent is young, expect MAJOR growth there...also, you can only play who your schedule allows...last year, there were games where our defense carried us single handly with an anemic offense |

Also, as Ron Is building a power house defense, he’s also building a really good online, so we can play ball control football...using our speed pre-snap to run motions to help out running game too...as it makes the defense freeze for a second to make sure the WR doesn’t get the handoff as they run by |

And this is how it starts. Now everybody gonna be watching St-Juste in the preseason and shitting on him when he inevitably has growing pains. Also Kam Curl being benched - man I respect Collins as a leader and I'm sure he earned that C on his patch - but also feel they should've moved on from him this offseason. |

Sent from my SM-N970U using Tapatalk
Watched the replay of the Steelers first loss the other night and was reminded how good Moreland was in that game. His ball instincts, quick reaction, and happy-to-hit are there. I hope he sticks in his slot role — not bad for a 7th rounder. |

We got a lot of breaks go our way last year. Just look at the last game of the year. Brady had his way throwing for almost 400 and they ran for like 140. We got a solid group no doubt but I feel we really missed Matt I. With him coming back and with the addition of Davis, I feel we can take that much needed next step. |

Sorry, but at the end of the year Tampa was doing that to everyone. We didn’t have any more breaks than any other team. |

We beat one winning team, man. We got absolutely destroyed by good passing teams, whatever the string of QB. Guys running free in second and third level all the time. Our D is good. I think it will be better, experience, 2nd year same system, guys like Young Sweat continuing to gel improve, Del Rio freer to dial it up, plus additions at CB and LB and depth at DE. Also, having an O hold its own will be HUGE, our O, a then D can be much more aggressive. That being said, we play some really good teams this year. The winning teams we'll need to beat will be better this year. I don't think it is absurd to view this D as potential top-5 in NFL, but potential must of course be realized. Can you imagine if our O actually scored in the 1st quarter consistently? This D could be a monster. Even if it regresses a bit, it is till a solid top-half of NFL D for sure. |

How you think that will work out?
His problems are angles, diagnosis, etc. Not athleticism. In theory, at least trying him at a position where those weaknesses are minimized, CB, isn't ridiculous. More smart moves FO. May be only way he makes team, or could be just more versatility. That being said, sure feels like time to move on. For some guys, the light just never comes on. |

I don't know, do you draft and acquire so many small burners to play ball control? I mean you have to run well, playoffs especially, difficult to see our WR moves and not think we aspire to more old school go deep a lot kind of O. Gibbs mashed you with the run, and then when everyone cheated up to stop run, burnt you deep. Nightmare for a D. It is interesting to ask exactly what kind of O our FO envisions. |
Re: Washington Football Team Defense 2021
I look for an offensive overhaul of sorts this year, now that they have the pieces to run the system they prefer. Last year the QB position limited what they could do, but if RF catches on quickly (something he has a lot of experience with) we should see the Turner offense in its entirety. Strong running game, putting receivers, tight ends, and running backs in motion to get a read on the defense, looking for the deep pass first, and then working back through the progressions.
Could be exciting if both the O and D take a step forward. They will both have to in order to compete with this schedule. |
Re: Washington Football Team Defense 2021
Keim said they are trying Apke at CB today in ota…
How you think that will work out?
WTF are they thinking? Total waste of time. I know in the old days there were a couple guys that just made the team as special teams players. They didn't play anything else. Mike Nelms comes to mind, just a great special teams player. I feel like that is what Apke is. Don't put him out there to play anything on defense, don't ask him to do things he can't do. To me he should be on all of the special teams stuff and that is it. |

If this defense isn't in the top 10 It will be a big disappointment
