30 years ago today...
The Redskins won SB XXVI over the Buffalo Bills 37-24 in dominating fashion, and little did we know then, it would be the pinnacle of this franchise.
Since then we've been mediocre at best, downright laughable a lot of the time, and a lightening rod for controversy and scandal. Thanks Dan! |
Re: 30 years ago today...
Selling to Dan Snyder is a top 5 decision in sports history that absolutely ruined a franchise. You couldn't do much worse if you tried to fail on purpose.

Re: 30 years ago today...
I was a freshman in college just loving life. So young and so naive as to what was to come lol
|
Re: 30 years ago today...
I was just starting my 2nd year of what would end up being a 22 year career in the Army, gallabanting around Germany, also loving life and equally as naive.
Tough to think about all the time, money, and support I have thrown this organization since then... |

Sounds like something I would write. ;) You are correct. I would say it was the most anticlimactic of the three Super Bowl wins. You just knew they were going to do it. It was great that Rypien earned the MVP, but I thought Wilbur Marshall had a strong claim. He was nuclear powered during that game. And it was indeed the last hurrah. Bobby Beathard had already departed. Coach Gibbs was soon to follow. The Squire passed away a few years later. And the team departed RFK. A series of ever greater disappointments that continue to this day. But I will leave it at that. Thanks for the reminder. Nice pick me up on a cold day. |
Re: 30 years ago today...
Hard to fathom that was 30 years ago. Harder to fathom what has happened since. Of all the people in the world to buy the team we got Captain Douche. [emoji1750]

Re: 30 years ago today...
What a great team that was. Perhaps one of the most complete SB winning teams ever.
I was in Georgetown that day and when the game was over it was just insane. Streets closed off, strangers hugging strangers. That was when this was purely a Redskin town. The group I was with, we went to the old Georgetown Library and partied until 4am. They kept it open cause no one wanted to go home. Incredible memories. |

He just blew up Buffalo's wr's all game long. |

This is soo true. 81-92 so disciplined tough and on and on football. The 3 Superbowl wins were nicely spaced out. I miss being spoiled by success. |
Re: 30 years ago today...
Every single thing about those teams was awesome. Our kicker was awesome. Our offense was a juggernaut. Our defense was nasty. Our gm was the best in the biz. Our hc. Our coordinators. Etc. our home field! My god. What a difference

Bobby B. Was in San Diego already, he left in 1990. Casserly was the GM. |

Actually I don't know any of them would be 15 yarders now. He mainly led with his shoulder. Great timing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DBG3l64zAYg |

Kurt Gouveia was an animal during this game.

All it takes is stupid money and a massive EGO to be a destructive force in this world … it’s in all aspects of life from sports on up .. |
Re: 30 years ago today...
I was 3 years old, had no idea what football was. You think the losing is all you know? I was born in it, molded by it. I didn't see a winning season until I was a man, and by then it was already too late. The losing betrays you, because it belongs to me.

Was referring to Crustys comment about the whole run from 81-92. |
Re: 30 years ago today...
Watched this game at old Cinema and Drafthouse in Bethesda. This old Art Deco movie theatre simulcast Redskin games most every Sunday and it was always a packed house. Several times the cops would come in to tell the crowd to STFU as we were so loud neighboring residents would complain. That place was a blast during ‘Skins games. Got so trashed watching this SB there my future wife had to drive me home…to Annapolis!

30 years
I honestly don't know whether everybody on this site deserves a medal for still being a fan or a kick in the arse for still being a fan. :confused?: The Poisoned Dwarf has a lot to answer for. |
Re: 30 years ago today...
Looking back on the 91 team yesterday I actually felt a little angry. Angry that Dan has turned this franchise into a long running joke. I'd just love to know what's going on in is head. After all these years, does he not understand that he's just not good at this NFL owner stuff? Does he not hear the noise from the fans and media? Does he not get how hated he is by the fans? I just don't get why someone would want to continue doing something that can't bring him very much joy or satisfaction.

The crazy thing is that he could potentially make a TON of money and completely step away from the negative publicity he's brought on himself by: - Selling the team. - Selling the majority of the team and becoming a minority owner. There is absolutely nothing he would lose by doing either of these things. |
Re: 30 years ago today...
Hell if he took his presence off of football operations we could be competitive. If we had a competent GM with Shanahan here we still would have been a desirable destination

The frustrating thing is there have been so many examples over the years of if he just did this, or didn't do that, maybe we'd be alright. But when he meddles, he meddles big and the ramifications are always devastating. He never learns. Feels like we're just waiting for the next big fuck up from him. |
Re: 30 years ago today...
Yup really nothing to add to that

Well, now you know how I feel about things. You ask very good questions about DS. Indeed, they are vital questions. Questions that I and I assume everyone else wonders about. And I wish I had a definitive answer. I am not a shrink, but I would love to hear what one thinks about him. I have a theory about him and I have stated it before. Dan craves the BIG SPLASH. That is, anything-- ANYTHING-- that brings him attention whether it is positive or negative. Consequently, Dan loves big draft picks, bringing in aging stars, stadium scenarios, hiring and firing coaches, and yes, the name change. Oh, he hated that at first, but then realized it was yet another stage for him to prance about. Winning? Nice notion, but secondary to the Big Splash in his mind. Furthermore, I do not believe he grew up a fan. Not buying it. I think he was vaguely aware of them during the Allen years and then jumped on the bandwagon during the Gibbs era. Danny is not a proper NFL owner. He is a two-bit carny barker. |

He is narcissistic, he doesn't think like you or I. He has a enough of a close circle that probably yes him to death every day and that fuels his narcissism. He is no different then the one legged bbq pirate on here only difference is he has billions. I dealt with one in my old neighborhood; it was horrible, just a awful person that had zero remorse. Attacking women and children whatever it took to get his agenda filled. Had to get a protective order against him. |

Yeah I pretty much know the answers to what I was venting about. Dude is definitely 100% lost in his narcissism and ego, probably some little man complex in there as well.

Re: 30 years ago today...
That was some pretty cool stuff hearing all the guys from the 91 team. I was watching a piece w/ Julie D. She was doing a sit down w/ Ryp, BMitch, Brad Edwards and Gary Clark. Ryp got choked up and emotional talking about how the guys from that team are his brothers. That's what it's all about. Making that bond w/ other men, accomplishing something together that is so hard to do.

Yea I suspect that as well. I wonder if he got tossed around by the big guys growing up. I would think owning an NFL team and having a hot wife would enable any man to come to terms with his demons. |
