Around the NFL: Pre-Super Bowl

Kyle Rudolph won't take a pay cut while saying he finally decided to become a decent blocker out of necessity and not being used in passing game.

I'll take a pass on him if he becomes a FA.

Scotty Miller says he'd beat Tyreke Hill in a race.

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2021/01/27/scotty-miller-im-faster-than-tyreek-hill/?partner=Yahoo

Buccaneers wide receiver Scotty Miller showed in the NFC Championship Game that he has serious speed. He also has serious confidence.

Asked by Dan Patrick to compare himself to Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill, Miller said he believes he would win a one-on-one footrace.

Im taking me, every day of the week, Miller said. Ill take me over anybody. Tyreek is unbelievable, super quick, unbelievable talent. But if were talking about a race, Ive got all the confidence in myself going up against anybody.

Asked if he considers himself the fastest player in the NFL, Miller said, Yes, sir.

Fuck a pro-bowl every year.

But I'd tune in for sure to watch things like races and strength competition between players. Especially when the challenge is issued by one player to another player(s).

No excuses.

I don't care if it's mental illness or drug-induced, he tried to kill her by beating her. There's no rehabbing that.

I'd be fine if he fried, but NO WAY should he be allowed around other humans anymore. Regardless of the reason, he's a danger to anyone around him both by his size and his actions.

Some crimes like murder, rape, pedophilia/child molesting...there's no rehab once you cross that moral line. Just remove them from society, permanently is fine.

The 27-year-old essentially tried to kill his girlfriend (now ex) over the weekend, sending her to the hospital with a bloody and swollen face, among other injuries. Alleah, the victim, claimed Wheeler "thought I was dead on my bed and continued to eat dinner" before she got up and went to the bathroom when Wheeler replied, "Wow, you're still alive." NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports the Texans are "targeting" Josh McCown and Lovie Smith as assistants.
The Texans were shredded for giving McCown a head-coaching interview over more qualified candidates, but all signs point to the former quarterback as being a future NFL coach. Being hired as a QBs coach or passing-game coordinator would be a reasonable start. Smith would bring a lot of experience to first-time head coach David Culley, and he's available after being fired by Illinois last December. The Texans have their offensive coordinator in Tim Kelly.

Plus Watson's trade request is OFFICIAL now.

https://www.rotoworld.com/football/nfl/player/8073/deshaun-watson

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Deshaun Watson has requested to be traded from the Texans.
It's been long reported that Watson wants out of Houston, but this is the first time his request has been considered "official." Schefter adds that Watson actually hasnt spoken to new Texans general manager Nick Caserio nor executive Jack Easterby since the former's decision has already been made. With a no-trade clause baked into his deal, the 25-year-old will ultimately choose his own suitor on the market. One after another, Houston's dumbfounding decisions and cronyism in the front office transparently highlight an organization that has no direction or intention of winning in either the near future or long-term, resulting in this decision. Whomever lands Watson will merely take on a team-friendly $10.54 million cap hit in 2021 and have its franchise cornerstone locked up under center through the 2025 season.

Yeah I understand where you're coming from as an advocate of prison reform too. I think for most serious non-violent offenders an emphasis should be placed on rehab to lower the recidivism rate too.

But this wasn't just domestic violence, this was attempted murder. I don't have any sympathy for that, even if it was man on man I really don't have a problem locking the violent ones up. If you want to rehab him after he serves time that's fine, but I have a hard time thinking the punishment for attempted murder should be a mental health facility.

If he wasn't cognitive of what he was doing then he needs locking up in a secure facility, I would never suggest freedom. But sticking mentally ill people in gen pop only makes things worse all round. If he did know what he was doing then yes, its attempted murder and put him away.

I kinda feel bad for Jared Goff, man came back from a broken thumb to play in the playoffs a week later and he gets discarded like this. I think McVay and co. could use a lesson in how to talk to players if they're on the block.

Re: Around the NFL: Pre-Super Bowl

Whats the chance the Lions try and flip Goff for a 3rd or so?

Ability to "extend the play" seems to be heavily valued for modern QBs and I dont think Goff checks that box.

I didnt watch much of the Rams but he looked good against us, 3 td drives in the 1st quarter. I didnt watch his games down the stretch where Wolford became relevant.

I like the idea of keeping both our 3rds ... but wouldnt Goff (71.4 pff grade, almost 4k yards in 15 games, 67% completion %, 7.2 pass yard avg) be an immediate upgrade for us?

Cap hit is 27M in 2021, then 25M per year after that through 2024.

id put Goff in consideration. He is better than what we currently have and seems decent enough at presnap read, make quick decisions post snap.

From the article:
Shanahan, who was the offensive coordinator in Washington with Cousins in 2012 and 2013, admitted he didnt evaluate the 2017 quarterback draft class with Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson as thoroughly as he should, given he knew Cousins would be available the next season.

I felt very confident that [Cousins] wasnt going to stay [in Washington], Shanahan said last month. When you go into a season knowing that a franchise quarterback is going to be available the next year, it made me a lot more picky with what we were looking at.
Because he basically admitted that he didn't do his job, that's why. Ok, maybe he's a stand-up guy who can admit when he made a mistake. Good for him. I think it's an epic failure though. Hard to get over that one if I'm his boss.

He's this young up and coming offensive guru seemingly without a QB to effectively run his offense. So he takes it for granted that the one QB he knows well (KC) is going to be available for him, like no other team will bid on him - and he fails to do his due diligence, scour the planet, evaluating every possibility for the right QB for his offense. Especially a young QB coming out of the draft that you can get on a rookie contract - rather than spend 80+M guaranteed. That's why it's hard to believe.

It's still salvageable though. He can dump Garoppolo's contract on the Texans along with five 1st round picks for Watson now, and rewrite history.

Anytime my staff made mistakes, I first will assess the situation and then the staff's work performance history before I discipline the staff for the mistakes. If the staff has a positive history and does not make mistakes often, then I would give the staff a benefit of doubt. I would do the opposite if the staff has a long history of mistakes..

In this case with Kyle, he has shown he knows what he is doing and the lack of DD on QBs in the draft appears to be one time thing (as of what we all know at this point). I would discuss this incident with Kyle if I'm his direct supervisor to prevent this from happening again in the future and not do anything further than that. If it was Adam Gase, I would address this situation differently, something that likely aligns with your approach. Gase has shown that he does not know what he is doing as a coach and whiffed on the DD on QBs in the draft, then this absolutely deserves a close scrutiny and disciplinary action.

But then, every person in a management role have their own opinions on how they should address issues.

Plenty of teams whiffed on Mahomes and Watson. I don't think Kyle was the only one that year that didn't do enough homework on them.
