Steve Slaton

He's buried on Houston's bench and I think he'd look real good in burgundy and gold next year. Here's why.

1. He knows our offense.
2. He adds serious game breaking ability
3. He can catch out of the backfield
4. He had nice production his rookie year
5. He adds much needed speed to our offense
6. He's still young
7. We can trade AH to Houston cause they play a 4-3 and need help on defense.

I have little interest in looking at our skill position options. That's the Snyder way of building a team. Tell me who's available to improve our O-line via draft and free agency.

That first sentence may be part of the problem too.

I would sign Logan Mankins in FA and draft a C.

The reason he was benched is fumbleitis. He's got a serious fumbling problem, and I wouldn't want him unless it had been corrected once and for all. And if did trade Haynesworth to Houston, I would def. want way more for him than a running back buried on the depth chart. 2nd rounder and Slaton might be nice, provided Slaton corrects his fumbling problem. Houston might not want him though, although I'm not entirely sure how comfortable they are with Amobi Okoye down there.

Re: Steve Slaton

For next season the Redskins need to keep Trent Williams and bring up Selvish Capers/Erik Cook from the practice squad and release every other player on their O-Line. Then use their 1st and 2nd round picks on O-Lineman to get two more talented players. After the draft sign a bunch of young free agents and see if they can find any players to build some YOUNG depth. Till we get a solid O-Line our offense will continue to stink. We have to be able to run the ball to set up playaction and the longball.

I like that line of thinking but what makes you so sure Capers and Cook are the answer? Maybe they are stuck on the practice squad because they aren't good enough. I think they would've stayed on the main roster this season if they had proved they were deserving of a spot. The fact that they haven't been signed off our practice squad probably indicates that other teams don't see that much in them either.

Capers and Cook are unknowns at this point. I agree we need to upgrade the o-line (I'm fine with our tackles, I just think the interior needs upgrading) but there is absolutely no evidence that Capers and Cook are the answer. I think if they are the answer, they would've stood out in practice by now, and proven that they deserved to be starting. But that's obviously not the case now is it?

Re: Steve Slaton

given the picks we have right now I say we grab some O-Linemen in FA
Mankins, Mangold, Bushrod, Kalil, light ,gaither, clabo, Kreutz, Dahl
we draft skill positions
WR, RB, LB or a CB
we have to rebuild but we will bring in bandaids to try to be competitive so get used to that....
get the best player available in the draft and fill in the holes.

as a wvu homer i'm all for it. he showed flashes his rokkie year, then fell off and had some fumbling issues. and quite honestly it seems like a realistic enough trade, it would be nice to get them to throw in a late pick as well.

I agree with the idea of drafting more o-lineman, but lets not overlook the fact that the line has been playing much better of late, especially considering the defense lines the Skins have been up against. Yesterday's 7 points was a combination of careless turnovers and dropped passes. The line was giving McNabb time, especially considering it was against the Giants.

Let Houston cut him loose, than pick him up.

Re: Steve Slaton

It is very obvious that we need o-line help. Everyone knows that. The is the first priority. But this offense also needs a homerun hitter too. I'm thinking with a little coaching up with the fumble problem, like Tiki Barber got, this guy would be a perfect fit here.

I'd be fine with them drafting a WR with the first pick and attacking the Oline in Free Agency
I'd be fine with them drafting a WR with the first pick and attacking the Oline in Free Agency
I'm only fine with this approach if the O-lineman is 27 or younger. I don't want a 34 year old Olin Kreutz on the downside of his career. If we're going to give big FA money to a lineman, it should be for a guy whose best football is still ahead of him. Nick Mangold would be an excellent upgrade at C, and he will only be 27 next year.
