The issue is over team marketing monies basically. Right now the pool of money that the cap is based on includes NFL sanctioned merchandise plus team revenues specific to playing. Teams like the Cowboys and Redskins are far more popular than say the Cardinals and therefore sell much more extraneous merchandise that currently is not included in the revenue pool. This merchandise is the stuff made by the teams for the teams and not based on NFL marketing contracts. Right now the owners are debating whether to even include this money in their own agreements in terms of revenue sharing. Once they get their act together on sharing they can tackle the CBA. The players are going to want an increase in the % of revenue plus the inclusion of the extra marketing monies. They'll shoot for say 60% and get maybe 59% percent but the eventual inclusion of the extra marketing monies will be the big deal as it will increase the pool by probably 10-15% meaning an overall increase of cap money at like 4-5%. The cap will end up close to 110 which is why most teams are leveraged big time into the future right now. Most are banking on getting a big bump come 2007.
