While its a possibility Smith can come back stronger than the start of last season I honestly think its highly doubtful. Had this years injury been to another part of his body maybe, but it was to an already reconstructed calf that already requires artificial support to function. He's past the age of peak physical fitness, so his ability to heal is declining not improving. There's every chance this injury will be recurring and I'd lay odds his consultant has told him so.

While he may think he can compete with the likes of Fitz (who is still quite mobile), the reality is the only advantage he has over any FA we bring in is going to be his brain and possibly his arm. At this point he's less mobile than Rivers, and he just retired.

I can't see Smith lasting more than 1/2 a season without missing game time. You need a better projection for your starter than that.
