Re: What is CP worth
You must be insane. Under no circumstances should the Skins trade Portis. This offense is tailor-made for Clinton Portis. Don't you remember the sprint draws and the mis-direction plays that went for big yards early in the season. Two problems occurred this year:
1) Portis should have never attempted to tackle that guy in the preseason. Its easy to say that now, but that one play may have killed the season. The Skins were tenative in preseason afterwards and got off to a lousy start because of it. The lingering effects of that shoulder injury hampered him during the season.
2) Mark Brunell did not execute the offense as planned. Saunders offense calls for quick reads and throwing to spots prior to the receiver making his cuts. Brunell didn't trust his reads and refused to throw ahead of the receivers. He seemed to mostly check down. That allowed teams to bring in their safeties and stop the run and play tight pass coverage. When teams play tight pass coverage, you have to challenge them deep to keep the defense honest. Brunell refused or was incapable of doing that. I think that in the long run Campbell will execute this offense better and open up the running game.
