Stan Olson, of The Charlotte Observer, reports free-agent WR D.J. Hackett (Seahawks) has strong interest in playing for the Carolina Panthers, according to his agent, Kevin Robinson. "His goal is to play for a playoff contender and he thinks the Panthers will be that with their quarterback (Jake Delhomme) healthy again," Robinson said.

Jets | Team looking to trade Robertson

Tom Rock, of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, reports the New York Jets are looking to trade DL Dewayne Robertson to the Denver Broncos. Robertson is due a $3 million roster bonus June 1, and would count more than $11 million against the Jets salary cap in 2008. Terms of the potential deal are not known, but they could involve Broncos CB Domonique Foxworth.

NFL | Porcher to be sentenced

The Associated Press reports former Detroit Lions DL Robert Porcher will be sentenced on a charge that he assaulted his ex-wife. Porcher was arrested on the assault and battery charge in December of 2007. His charge is punishable by up to 93 days in jail and a $500 fine. He pleaded no contest to the charge Wednesday, March 12, and his sentencing is set for Thursday, April 3.

Tom Kowalski, of MLive.com, reports Detroit Lions RB Kevin Jones said Thursday, March 13, that he was informed by the Lions that the team will release him. "They told me this morning that they were going to release me," Jones said. "Yeah, I was surprised. I was in two weeks ago and saw the staff and (president Matt) Millen and everything was OK. Two weeks later, they told me I was getting released."
