Anyhow, I mean I know there have been some really bad Redskins teams back in the day so why do you think there is backlash now that wasn't there before?

Much may have to do with the expanded fan base. There was not as much interest in the Redskins then from the far away places like it is now. By Washington being a transit city it draws people from around the country who take up residence here for various reasons, but not neccessarily Redskin fans.

For a longtime to many DC residents the Redskins were an afterthought. Mr. Marshall had alienated the African American community to the extent they would not attend games because of his policies regarding African American players. When Marshall sold the team fan interest increased despite the fact the teams were not good. George Allen did more to energize the fanbase here than any other coach in modern times except Joe Gibbs. Under his guidance the team became a winner again and fans showed their support.

I was ten yrs. old when my Father & Uncle took me to my first Redskin game. We would go to Church right across the street from old Griffith Stadium at the "Happy Am I" Church, pastored by Elder "Lightfoot" Soloman Michaux. Season tickets for lower deck seats were $24.00 Beer 10cents a bottle. My Uncle was an Usher at Griffith Stadium when the Homestead Grays played baseball there..........Lot's of memories.
