If the playoffs started today, only one of these 7-4 teams: Giants, Green Bay or Tampa Bay would be in the playoffs as a wildcard (the other wildcard would be 8-3 New Orleans) and the other two 7-4 teams would be out of it. And their AFC opponent is the West as well. I know the AFC West looks better this year, but it's still a pretty weak group overall. The NFC West is a legitimate joke. While I like the division structure, I think the NFL could and should put a proviso in that no sub .500 team, even a division winner, can be in the playoffs if there are any .500 or better teams. Basically if a division can't produce 1 .500 team, the division loses it's right to a playoff spot that year.
