I believe that Danny Boy "doesn't care whether people are for him ... or against him ... as long as there is passion either way..."
I think that Danny Boy would need years of couch-time counseling if everyone didn't pay him any attention - - positive or negative attention makes no difference. What I think he would not be able to stand was to be "ignored" or "shunned" or - - as the Brits say - - "sent to Coventry".
Lots of what he does is in the category of "Hey, over here! Look at me! I'm over here! "
I do not think that behavior is either laudatory or evil; but I think it exists...
