Seriously though, the one problem I see besides the obvious profiling is IMO Police should have real allegations of illegalities or justifiable proof before going onto onto someones property and confronting someone to ask and if what the are doing is illegal. This is still America... right?
If the POLICE see something illegal even if it is something minor like loud music or public intoxication then go ahead and take care of business. But if a neighbor calls and says there are many high value cars going in and out of our neighborhood due the new neighbor, that should not be enough reason to confront the new neighbor. There is nothing illegal with that. Conduct an investigation, track the traffic, tap phone lines. That is fine. Do some actual police work before you knock on my door and point an accusatory finger at me. If at that point you find any evidence or hint that there might be something illegal going on then respond. But don't take the word of a stranger over another.
