Jason Campbell: when will the switch be made?
It's inevitable that the switch will be made at some point this year, unless of course the team gets incredibly hot and makes a serious playoff push.
But let's talk reality here, even though it happened last year and I'm still holding out hope, I don't think we're going to see another miracle turnaround. We've got too many problems on both sides of the ball to all of a sudden hit the switch. So the question is, when will we see Campbell? I think alot of us are thinking if they lose to the Colts on Sunday, with a 2-5 record and a bye week to give them extra time to get him ready the Nov. 5th game against Dallas would be the perfect time to plug him in. I say it's not gonna happen. With two division games against Dallas and Philly on the other side of the bye and the fact that the Skins would still be technically alive in the playoff race, I honestly don't see Campbell starting until the playoffs are all but out of reach and that won't be until the Skins hit 7 losses. Starting Campbell is going to be a strong signal that the season is over. I don't think Gibbs is afraid to make a QB change, but I do think he is hesitant to raise the white flag until he absolutely has to. Take it for what it is, but this is just my little warning to not slit your wrists when you see Brunell starting after the bye regardless of what happens against Indy. |

From what Gibbs has been saying this week, that scenario seems the most likely, unless Brunell pulls a Rex Grossman, or gets his leg broken. What Gibbs apparently can't see though, is the fact that the season is over if Brunell continues to play the way he has all season.

I agree, JC is not going to start afte the bye no matter what happens this week. I dont think JC will start this season at all. For whatever reason Gibbs is loyal to MB and wont pull him unless he gets hurt. I will say there is a small chance JC could start in week 16 but I think those chances are minimal. |

If the Skins hit 7 losses the playoffs would be out of reach in all likelihood. It would make absolutely no sense to keep playing Brunell at that point. Gibbs isn't dumb, at that point he would know that it's time to begin the Campbell era. Besides, the fans would boo Brunell out of the stadium at that point. |

Re: Jason Campbell: when will the switch be made?
I'm afraid you're probably right, Matty. And we already know about Gibbs great loyalty to Brunnell. And it's especially likely if the rest of the team continues to play poorly. First, it suggests that MB isn't the only problem here, so switching him won't really help. And two, if the rest of the team is playing badly, it would be a tough way to start the Campbell era. Little is gained by having him go out there with the rest of the team unable to support him (recall the sad saga of Patrick Ramsey...). So it' MB for a few more games at least.

Re: Jason Campbell: when will the switch be made?
Brunell will be the starter as long as we have a chance of making the playoffs. Then if we do not see JC we have to start second guessing what Gibbs is thinking. I would love to be a fly on the wall to hear waht Al and Gibbs talk about after each game. We have not heard any rumors of AL wanting JC as of yet unless I missed something. With that said JC won't see the field because we going to start kicking butt!

I do not think Gibbs will play JC until we have 7 losses. I wouldn't switch QBs until that point either.

I agree & I agree w/Matty's post. I don't think JC should play if we lose to the colts, because all nfc & div. games would still be left. Wash times says after Dal. & philly, which sounds right to me.

Re: Jason Campbell: when will the switch be made?
I agree with most of what's been said, up to the point that playing Campbell equates to giving up on the season. That is the case if Campbell struggles, but what if his athleticism behind center is just what we needed? I recall when Eli Manning was given the reins to a team deemed to be a title contender the vets almost revolted, but why draft a guy in the first round if you're not going to play him? We made the deal for him because we thought he could play and play well for us.
So I guess I don't agree. I think continuing to play Brunell and pretend that he's going to somehow turn things around is giving up on the season. That said, there's no way Campbell plays until we have 9 losses. 7 losses and we're still "mathematically alive" and the specter of how well we finished last year will prevent Gibbs from pulling the trigger. |

here's a question, what do you think our record would be had we practiced and started Campbell this season? while i'm sure our INT count would be higher, i think our TD count would be higher as well... oh, that said, i agree with Matty. Gibbs wouldn't sit Brunell until he had to by injury, or had to by defeat and front office pressure (8 losses). sigh.

Re: Jason Campbell: when will the switch be made?
I agree with most of the other posters about JC starting after we are eliminated from the playoff hunt. However, with 7 losses we might still be contending ... it all depends on the rest of the division/conference.
if MB doesn't start playing well, then I hope we will be eliminated quickly.

Re: Jason Campbell: when will the switch be made?
Not soon enough.
Coach should have used the offseason-preseason prepping Campbell and having Brunell and Collins mentor. As for this season, we saw what happened last season when it seemed out of reach, so nothing is beyond this team when they get the bit between their teeth. The only problem is we really haven't seen much from the D to convince any of us that it can be an 'all aspects of the game' recovery. Realistically I now have 2007 season to look forward to.
