Haynesworth says that we don't "want it"

Redskins' Haynesworth critical of teammates after loss

"Urgency, heart, 'want-to,' whatever. I don't know. We're lacking a lot of stuff right now," the defensive tackle said.

For the second consecutive home game at FedEx Field, thousands of spectators headed to the exits early.

"The fans are losing interest. The more games we play, the fewer fans come. It's getting bad," Haynesworth said.

The Redskins are 2-5 despite having opened the season with an NFL-record six consecutive games against winless teams. Washington's two wins were by a combined five points over teams that both are currently 0-7, Tampa Bay and St. Louis.

Asked if he delivered a postgame speech in the locker room, Haynesworth replied: "You can say but so much. You've got to actually 'want to.' So once we get to that point -- where we 'want to' do something -- then we'll do something. But if we just keep going our separate ways, then we'll just keep getting slaughtered like we have."

Re: Haynesworth says that we don't "want it"

I think I understand what AH is getting at with his comments. The Redskins seem like two separate teams to me. He must feel the same way.

First there is the defense, led by Greg Blache off the field and by Haynesworth and Fletcher on the field. Then there is the offense, led by, well, nobody.

The defense knows exactly who they are and what they are doing and they play hard from the opening kickoff to the (usually) bitter end. The offense has no identity, changes starters on a weekly basis, makes one critical mistake after another, and just seems to be going through the motions.

The defense was tough all the way through to the end against the Eagles. They gave up two big play touchdowns, but 13 of the Eagles 27 points were due to turnovers. They played a very good game overall.

The offense quit. Three and out over and over in the 3rd and 4th quarters and they just casually huddled up and strolled up to the LOS to run plays with the clock running down in the fourth quarter. Again, there is no leadership on the offensive side of the ball, on or off the field!

Well, it's clear that Jim Zorn and Jason Campbell must go at the end of the season. Neither of them has the passion to lead the offense and, after the way they've both been publicly humiliated by Snyder and Cerrato, I'm not even sure they care enough to lead it anymore.

Re: Haynesworth says that we don't "want it"

Yeah the only reason I was excusing Zorn and Campbell at first on the slowness when we needed to be running more of a hurry up was the new playcalling system, then I find out Zorn took over calls during the "hurry up." Sometimes a 2 min drill runs a bit longer than 2 mins and Zorn hasn't figured that out yet, this isn't the first time we've taken our sweet time during huddles and getting to the LOS.

At least AH is ballin'. I still don't understand people who take shots at him (I guess it's easy because of the $$), the guy is clearly a bright spot for the team this year.

Absolutely. He's lived up to (and even surpassed) all reasonable expectations of him. I just hope he doesn't let the "dont give a crap" mindset of our offense wear him down.

We need a leader on offense and we need one bad. If Colt hadn't gone to IR, there's no way he wouldnt be starting by now. Not necessarily because he's especially talented, but atleast he's got the attitude. We need a QB who can fire guys up.

I don't think we'll have to worry about that. It almost seems that the worse the team gets, the more pissed AH gets and the harder he plays. It's as if he's saying, "don't blame me for this mess, I'm earning my check."

Say what you will about Hanesworth, but the guy has helped that DL out greatly! He's been hurt all year 'round, even been carried off the field and still comes back to play each and every week. AH is playing with heart, can't say that about many of the other players.

Re: Haynesworth says that we don't "want it"

He's totally right -- most of our players don't "want it" bad enough. There's no enthusiasm. Aristocrat is right, we desperately need a leader on offense. There have been several occasions this season when I'm about to pull my hair out, and the guys on the field are just nonchalant. Many times I've thought, "Somebody get in his face!" Guys need to get pumped up. Guys need to care. You know, somebody whiffs on a block and we take a sack or somebody false starts to put us in 3rd and long, and nobody cares. Somebody needs to be getting in guys faces and making them feel bad. Don't miss that block! Work harder! Get your head in the game and stop committing penalties! Nobody does that.

Re: Haynesworth says that we don't "want it"

I think AH comments were shown on the field when CP throw his helmet in anger on the sidelines... AH was right next to him and did not like this no practice, no off season comfy with the owner player who use to be the face of the offense lose his cool...instead of taking it out on the Iggles!!!! AH has found out that since he makes a big salary off the field you will be ridiculed! So show it and bring it on the field where none of those critics can touch you. CP is no longer the factor back and we need to go to a rotation of runners like the rest of the league. He can still get carries but when the offense depends on him players get comfy with assignments...

Props to AH for showing heart...

Rock's 1 carry was easily the most explosive an RB has looked for the SKins all year....he should get more carries.

I don't understand why Portis continues to be the feature back, he is hurt and not productive...give someone else who is hungry a chance.

I don't know that one run justifies that.

Re: Haynesworth says that we don't "want it"

To those who question Haynesworth stamina and say he's "always" out of breath and on the bench, note these stats regarding playing time of various players vs. the eagles:

Playing time vs. Eagles (corrected) - Redskins 360 - Washington Times

Quote:
Here are the unofficial playing time totals for the Redskins against Philadelphia (includes plays negated by penalties, but not pre-snap penalties like false start and delay of game).

DEFENSE (58 snaps)

DL: Kedric Golston 34, Lorenzo Alexander 9, Jeremy Jarmon 17, Albert Haynesworth 42, Phillip Daniels 18, Cornelius Griffin 30, Andre Carter 56.

LB: London Fletcher 58, Rocky McIntosh 50, Brian Orakpo 52, Chris Wilson 5.

DB: LaRon Landry 58, Carlos Rogers 58, DeAngelo Hall 58, Justin Tryon 27, Fred Smoot 8, Reed Doughty 9, Chris Horton 49.
-Haynesworth played in 42 of 58 (72.4%) of the defenisve snaps vs. the Eagles.
-By comparison, Cornelius Griffen was only on the field for 30 snaps (51.7%)
-The only Defensive lineman on the field more than Haynesworth was Andre Carter.
-Haynesworth weighs 350lbs, Griffin weighs 303, andCarter weighs 253.

Now, I don't know Big Albert's average % of defensive snaps played over the course of the year, but its most certainly more than he ever played in Tennessee. As big and heavy as he is, its truly impressive - and a testament to his "heart," - that he is playing as many snaps as he is. Haynesworth definitely "wants it." Now, our organization has other problems besides its players' attitudes, but i can't help thinking that if the other 53 players on the roster "wanted it" as bad as Haynesworth, we wouldnt be 2-5 right now.
