if we don't play him then this would be a great idea if it's possible

Put him on IR due to him being a "head case" "psychological" reasons.

Great article. Thanks for posting.

I totally agree with everything Daniels says, and I really feel bad for him and guys like London Fletcher. These guys are classic overachievers, who work their asses off and get nothing in return -- not even equal effort from their teammates. Shanahan has no choice -- he can't play Haynesworth, because he doesn't put forth enough effort -- wins be damned. I welcome this attitude. If we're going to lose, let's do it with dignity.

He could be suspended a la Keyshawn or TO.

My brother has seen Fat Albert on multiple occasions drinking into the wee hours at Reston Town Center (Jackson's and American Tap Room), so my first impression when I heard that he was sick was that he was probably hung over. Time to pull the plug on the whole situation. Everyone knew that he was of questionable character before we signed him. We probably could have used that money to bolster our O-line two off-seasons ago, but that's water under the bridge.

The pattern works over a decade of Redskins' history; there is no reason to believe it cannot happen again.

And by the way, since the Skins and AH have been so public in their contretemps, what would be the incentive for another team to "work something out" with the Skins to acquire Haynesworth? It isn't as if there are a bunch of GMs out there who think that everything is hunky-dory between Haynesworth and the folks who run the team...
I understand but....No player brought in here since Snyder took over the team has been payed as much guaranteed money as Haynesworth. I'm of the belief Snyder is still looking for some form of return on his investment, and that fact alone could be the only reason Haynesworth is still on the team.

I'm not buying into the concept Haynesworth is worthless. There are GM's around the league, knowing he's having problems here in Washington who are just waiting for the right opportunity to pounce for as little as possible.

So let me get this straight..

If you're a bad team, all you have to do is hire a new coach, boldly state that "we're rebuilding," and then cut all your players, and you become good?

I think most would argue that we HAVE seen a change with shanahan. The whole AH situation, and especially the players' comments on it show that he has really set about changing the lackadaisical culture of the zorn era. Maybe that hasn't translated into wins just yet, but how could it with the talent he has? I don't think you can make a distinction between "patching something together" and "rebuilding." What shanahan is doing now is establishing a no-jokes, professional attitude in the locker room and evaluating his talent for next year. I suppose you could call that rebuilding, but this team didn't need to be completely blown up. The redskins got rid of a lot of older players that really needed to go, and after this season I think we'll see them get rid of more, AH being one of them.

Just understand that it takes more than one year for a disaster of a team to become good, and be happy with slight improvement..

I would also say that I'm pleasantly surprised that the majority of posts on this thread weren't roasting shanahan for this situation, which is what I expected to be the case. It's about time we realized that shanahan isn't at fault for inheriting a worthless fat cry-baby and trying to get him to understand that he isn't exempt from the rules.

Redskins' Shanahan will meet with Haynesworth - Yahoo! News

Here is the nit and gritty of it all. I love Phillip Daniels and his work ethic.

Albert Haynesworth takes heat from within Redskins locker room | ProFootballTalk

According to Adam S. The skins won't cut him before the season is over

i don't think you understood where i was coming from. i understand it takes time to see some results, but my point is that no one in the redskins organization seems to know how they are going to make the changes. i think there have been some moderate improvements but i don't think they really know what direction the team is headed in and that part scares the s outta me. shanahan has the rings so he gets some time and it will obviously take time, it would just be nice to know there was a plan of action they were trying to follow.

Re: ESPN 980's Chris Russell: 75% Chance Skins release Big Al this week

he is making us suffer just as much as we are making him suffer by keeping him around. but what is done is done, let's just suffer together 'til the end of the year and get whatever we can for him. even if its a low round conditional pick or a 7th rounder. Anything is better than nothing, but if no offers come around then get rid of him.
...somebody has to think he is worth at least a 7th... right?...

I hope and pray they are not stupid enough to just cut him out right. Bench him, IR him, I don't care but to simply cut him ... no way. How about we look to trade for some Rookie on someone elses team to make a deal.

Hell at this point I'd take a 7th rounder for him. But don't just cut him.

Re: ESPN 980's Chris Russell: 75% Chance Skins release Big Al this week

Daniels needs to be made a captain if he isnt already and bring him back next year. Very well said...the way he sumed up Shanny and the team dynamic was spot on.

In regards to AH, there is nobody in the history of this team Ive been so embarrassed to have on this team. Its absolutely disgusting how unproffesional he has been and how he has represented this team. We should not cut him, i think we can def trade him. But im thru defending him and his play, I want him off the team. It unbelievable.
