Ex-Redskin's Coach DeWayne Walker Shakes up BCS?

Ever since DeWayne Walkler left the Redskins as secondary coach last year to become the defensive coordinator at UCLA, I've been trying to keep one eye on UCLA and one on the Redskin's secondary, which he coached last year. I was curious as to the impact his departure would have on both teams.

Well, in hindsight, not only does it look like his departure had a profound impact on our secondary's play and, more specifically, the scheme, but Mr. Walker may go down as the least mentioned individual in helping bring down the mighty USC Trojan's high octane offense and shaking up the BCS, maybe for good. Here's a quote following UCLA's stunning victory:

"We kept coming and kept coming and kept coming," Hickman said, "until the zeroes were on the clock." That explains the scheme devised by first-year UCLA defensive coordinator DeWayne Walker. A team that gave up 66 points and 679 yards to USC a year ago dominated the Trojans on Saturday. A former assistant to Pete Carroll at USC, Walker took the two weeks that the Bruins had to prepare for the Trojans and devised a plan that never let Booty get comfortable. Walker used pressure, and disguised his pass coverages in ways that Booty hadn't seen.

One more quote:

As far as I was concerned," Walker said on the field after the game, "It was me against Booty. If I could get into his head, we would have a chance to win. It wasn't me against Pete Carroll or me against (offensive coordinator) Lane Kiffin. It was me against Booty."

Boy, do I wish we still had this guy on our staff. I think he'll go on to have a very bright college career and perhaps back in the Pro's one day.

Kudos to DeWayne Walker!
