What did Smith ever win, even when healthy, on STACKED teams. Dumb trade, dumb contract, he's made like $50M+ for above average production and nothing more. I think Allen worst of bunch. Knows system, but NO upside. The best approach would be to draft 2 QBs with Heinecke, and maybe a late 6th or 7th rounder on PS. You could seriously make the case for 3 QBs drafted--if we had a real GM and not a coach GM--and take the long view. We're not worried about stopgaps, we're worried about finding a LONG-TERM franchise QB. 3 rookies and Hein, let them compete. Or 2 rookies and a UDFA practice squad.

Our entire approach--and that of most posters--is so shortsighted. We must find a franchise QB in the draft, even if takes several lottery tickets over several years.
