you can bring in vet min guys that can help, but you can't toss out huge contracts to old guys (injuries, increasing yearly pay for decreasing performance is a bad idea, etc), and you can't win playing the FA game unless you're batting WELL above .500 due to the costs of making big money mistakes.

even for thomas - chad morton, john hall, and lav coles didn't work out. overall we still won there since hall and chad were cheap and thomas and moss (also relatively cheap long term deal) are studs. morton wasn't bad either, but he was released due to a lenghty injury and to many fair catches.
