Re: Jason Campbell: when will the switch be made?

I think with all of the speculation with the QB scenario and the team's season being over, we actually do have a good chance to pull out at least a wild card spot... in which case I don't see campbell playing at all, unless brunell gets hurt.

I know these guys have character, and the league has been finicky this year... The eagles just got handled by the saints... I don't know which way is up...

If we get smoked by Indy, and he throws 2+ picks, campbell gets the nod... otherwise I think brunell will be starting until all hope is gone...

Re: Jason Campbell: when will the switch be made?

Assume Sunday afternoon, the record is 2-5 (this isn't a lock, but let's be honest, it is the overwhelming probable scenario).

JG faces a huge risk by waiting until the record is x-7 or x-8.

If MB continues to play as he has, and then JG brings in JC to play the last 6 or 7 games, if JC plays better than #8, JG has a big problem.

The reason to continue to start #8 is that he gives the Skins the best chance to win -- even though his play has been terrible.

If JC comes in and the team turns around (yes, a change at QB can change how everyone else performs), then it is clear that JG was completely wrong that #8 created the best chance for this team to achieve what it is capable of and that he threw away the season by not making this move sooner.

At 2-5, JG has very low down side and very big upside for pulling the trigger.

Will he do it? Who knows.

I would imagine... (pure speculation) that some of the other recievers (not named moss) are pulling for Campbell pretty hard, because it seems like brunell does not look their way often... at least not often enough....

The thing with the Indy game is it plays right into the 'There, I said he wasn't done' camp. They have an atrocious run D, we run Portis and dump off short passes all day and come away with a 'miracle' win.

More Brunell, more losses. If we go in with JC and let him take baby steps we'd get the win and get JC some confidence, not that I think he needs it.

We made the deal for him because we thought he could play and play well for us.

So I guess I don't agree. I think continuing to play Brunell and pretend that he's going to somehow turn things around is giving up on the season. That said, there's no way Campbell plays until we have 9 losses. 7 losses and we're still "mathematically alive" and the specter of how well we finished last year will prevent Gibbs from pulling the trigger.
One thing I have noticed is that Skins fans seem to think starting JC at QB equates to giving up on the season. I find this interesting because rookie QBs are proving they can play well and win games all over the league yet for some reason its believed that JC (not a rookie) cant come in and win or lead the team to the playoffs.

Rookie QBs don't typically come in and play well, I really think what we're seeing this year is an exception to the rule.

here's a question, what do you think our record would be had we practiced and started Campbell this season? while i'm sure our INT count would be higher, i think our TD count would be higher as well...

oh, that said, i agree with Matty. Gibbs wouldn't sit Brunell until he had to by injury, or had to by defeat and front office pressure (8 losses). sigh.
In preseason CJ threw 0 TD's and 2int's so I don't know if the TD's would be up.

If Brunell sucks vs Indy and gets called to start. The boos will start the second Mark Brunell takes the field, till the time he's off it. I expect him to be done after the Colts game. What I wouldn't give to trade places with Chris Samuels or John Jansen this Sunday...

Wasn't that Brunell's (who was working with the #1 offense) stat line as well?

don't be so sure about that (not named moss).

Santana was dissing the Cover-2 as a defense, said he'd be great at it even though he's never played corner. more importantly he was saying that's all defenses are doing to us. most words from him i've ever heard, this is Santana Moss, not T.O. about as much of a diss to the scheme/QB you can expect from him.

Re: Jason Campbell: when will the switch be made?

Thats because rookie QBs who come in don't have veteran leadership around them, a stud back to hand off to, and are often on poor teams.

Moss has also praised Brunell several times this year. But I guess the only quotes that matter are the ones out of frustration

Re: Jason Campbell: when will the switch be made?

Get Campbell in there as soon as possible! I am sure he can complete a 10 yard dump off pass to Cooley (the one that MB either over throws or skips off the turf 3 yds short). Or a pass over the middle to Llyod or Moss, the ones that MB overthrows, almost getting his WR's killed. JC should be given the reigns and allowed to learn the system, like the Steelers did with Big Ben, Run the damn ball and give your you QB a chance to make good plays (dont set him up for disaster).
