No difference then if he was released. A player that retires is much like a player that gets cut. The June 1 rules apply there as well.

Re: Alex Smith released from hospital

I would move on from Colt. He inability to stay healthy when called upon is a problem...cutting him would give us a little relief as well and Johnson would be cheaper. I think we go into the season with Colt...by far the least exiting option and tank job in full effect. Colt is the fucking reason why Gruden and Bruce have never gotten serious about drafting a young, developmental QB.

Rookie QB whether first round or 4th round. I wouldn't say we have to take a QB first round...this team isn't in a position to reach.

I honestly believe they will be vets cut who will be available in the affordable range who can come in and compete. Not Flacco or Foles, way too much for both. I think Dalton, Tannehill, etc could fall into that category.

I think they need one of each, even the best front office people and head coaches miss on QBs all the time. I even think a lower level veteran starter
will be too expensive if you add Smith's salary to a veteran plus Colt you would be talking north of $30 mil and for that kind of money you need an elite QB, not Ryan Tannehill. I think even a bottom 5 starter QB in this market will command over $10 mil.

I definitely don't see Colt going anywhere. He knows the system inside and out and he costs all of $3.5M.

Well, he's valuable to keep around to help a rookie learn things.

Otherwise you're trying to coach up at least 2 new QB's.

True, and bad vet free agents are getting $10+ million.

Bite the bullet for a year, and draft a mid-round QB... maybe Rypien

If we don't go 1st round QB...this guy is legit fall back option. I like him a lot as a mid round guy. Probably my favorite mid round QB prospect. And I don't like a lot of QB this year...its actually pretty bad year for QB prospects.

But hey, Bruce and Jay have forced us into this position again.

No kidding bottom level starter good / back up are getting $10+ million.

Tyrod Taylor made $16 mil last year. Just imagine the Redskins getting a Tyrod Taylor type which would put them spending $40 mil on the QB position. Draft two rookies start either Colt or Johnson while the rookies are groomed. Tank the season and go 3-13, if one of the rookie QBs look good trade that high pick for multiple pics to fill the rest of the holes. Superbowl or bust in 2021. Oops I forgot Snyder and Allen will still be here, lots of draft picks will be worthless, so 7-9 in 2021.

Re: Alex Smith released from hospital

I don't mind moving on from Colt if we were to bring in a guy like Teddy B or Tyrod for a year.

I think most on here have very realistic expectations about Alex and next year but still want to learn about his status.
