Rationale: we aren’t going to bet the farm on a top tier QB. We will settle for signing/trading for a mid tier vet QB who will be in competition for the starting job. Because of Heinicke’s familiarity with the system, he is ultimately going to win the starting QB competition.
Alex Smith will be the QB1 lol

Well said President.

Seriously, solid move, would be stupid not to give him a shot, and at the very least keep him as a good back up.
Plus, when you're trying to build a culture, you keep guys that earned it. Especially when it doesn't hurt you cap wise.

The Washington Football Team has agreed to terms on a 2-year extension for QB Taylor Heinicke, sources say, worth $8.75M. There are also incentives depending on how many games he starts. Real security for their resilient QB who started and impressed in the playoff game.
That's a lot of Heineken's.

Hope he hits the gym hard this offseason. Durability is definitely the major concern with him.

that is my biggest concern with him . . . i think he can play, as long as he can stay on the field and be playing close to 100%, not playing injured all the time or missing games.

Well he was studying for his college exams when we called him.

I'm sure he'll train harder for next season.

Re: WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021

Our QB's are living Hallmark movies.

Alex Smith is the greatest comeback story in sports history and Heinicke was a backup in the XFL and now has a 9 million dollar NFL contract.

Once Kyle Allen gets tendered, add him to the list. He is coming off of a terrible ankle injury.

Looks like it will be a 3 way competition between Heinicke/Allen and a drafted rookie. The Beer Man will be our starting QB week 1.

I guess these shirts will really start flying off the shelves now

Kind of cringe that we're selling a shirt based on a QB that lost a playoff game

And for a soon to be 28 Year old that has played with 3 different teams lol.. That is how sad it has gotten for WSH QBs

I think the 3 different teams is misleading as well -
His teams and their starting QBs were:

Minnesota Vikings - Teddy Bridgewater
New England Patriots - TOM BRADY
Houston Texans - Deshaun Watson
Carolina Panthers - Cam Newton

He was not replacing the GOAT, or Watson, and injuries kept him from the other two.

Love that shirt. Heinicke reminds me of Gus Frerotte in the sense of being the overriding fan favorite.

That said, I think it's unfair to label him as a qb who lost a playoff game. The Bucs defense was legit, and Heinicke moved the team effectively. It was definitely the lack of pressure that lost the game. Add in the fact that he was only on the team 4 weeks, and I think the t-shirt is a right fair play. My birthday is in June if anyone feels the same

Well it's not labeling, we lost the game. Just seems a little odd to celebrate that is all.
