I think Portis will not be on this team past camp.
Would like to see similar competition on the offensive line.
How about bringing Flozelle Adams in for a year?

The signing does give them flexibility for the draft. They can afford to wait until the 5th or 7th round to pick up a back. Still need to get a 3rd down receiving back on the roster, some kind of a screen or scat back for change of pace.

If CP is cut , then I would expect them to draft a RB , I think Parker is fast enough to be a scat/screen type for Shanny .... we will see .

Flozelle is, as Barkley would say, "Trbl". Plus that would break the "no Cowboy" rule which after Suisham must be followed at all costs.

There is going to be competition on the line, we have 3 spots open right now. Although BIG MIKE is the early favorite at RG!

It's unlikely that Portis will be cut due to his contract. The question remains if Portis has it in him to overcome his concussion-itis.

S&A improved the RB position cheap. No over paying, just one year deals for both RB's. Smart. Low risk.
I would not be shocked if Portis gets shopped around just to see what he might attract.
The draft will be very interesting.

Re: Willie Parker a Skin

Parker would be a wasted roster spot IMO. His breakaway speed is gone, he's not a pounder, useless on special teams. I hope he is just another big name to push Portis and LJ in camp but we cut him in August. I would like our RB's to be Portis, LJ, Alridge, Torrain & a draft pick like Joe McKnight.

Re: Willie Parker a Skin

I think this allows us to wait until next year for the RB position, and lets the staff install the ZBS with enough prospects drafted this year to be able to pluck an appropriate back for it next draft. Young talent on the OL is WAY more of a pressing issue, plus it would set up to be able to THEN draft a back that fits our scheme, not one that has to adjust alot or one that we hope fits well, but we are already wedded to. RB is fine for now the way I see it. And we have 2 proven return men on the roster now, 3 if you count Deangelo.........I dont see the PRESSING need there either......... not that it wouldnt eventually be looked at.

Plus - this draft - Lots of O Line, Short on RB's.........
Redskins - Short on picks, 3 vet RB's already on roster

I would be way surprised if they waste a mid round pick on a RB in a crappy class such as this years instead of finding an athletic fit for the ZBS as a base for next year, when we could snag a RB in the 2nd or 3rd round without the OL needs, already addressed.....

Re: Willie Parker a Skin

totally shocked...I thought this was a late April Fools joke or something.
I totally LOVE this move....think about it folks.
When Shanny took this team, everyone said....he can make a star out of any RB....well....lookie here!....3 guys with heavy experience carrying the load at a high level. What does that really tell you....it tells you what Vinnie couldn't admit because he's been in denial for a couple years.

The FO completely understands that this teams greatest weakness is the OLINE....therefore, we need some really experienced backs to grab any yards we can....even if we get 2 starting rookies, we'll have to run the ball a lot to keep the pressure off of rookie Olinemen...it just seems to me that this is a precursor to drafting 2 starting olinemen since we can depend on the RBs to bail them out...not to mention Campbells toughness...Campbell did his best work under Gibbs run first attack and they seem to know that too.
It is good to see that a front office understands the personel as well as us!

The only way I see us drafting a QB in the first is if we have a deal to trade our 2nd rounder to Baltimore for their vet OT....cant have a rookie QB in there with a rookie LT from the 2nd round...unless the goal is to keep the QB on the bench....I just don't see that happening...If we draft a QB at 4, we will play him by midseason at latest, cant do that with a rookie LT.

I really don't buy this Campbell is gone crap...he is solid and way better than the top 2 QBs will be over the next 2-3 years.

Its pretty simple to me now....draft the best player at 4 even if it is a DT or safety, we've got a tough QB and solid RBs....who gives a crap anymore!
As long as we get a OT in either round 1 or 2, we should be fine with the existing cast of characters

Re: Willie Parker a Skin

just my opinion but i think alridge still has the most upside out of any of the backs we have on our roster, i have a feeling he will have a break out year this year and be our feature back for the next few years

I wasn't aware Willie played Tackle. What? He doesn't. Since we don't currently have more than maybe 1/2 of a starting NFL tackle on our team I will withhold judgment. But I guess this does give us a pretty good indication of what they think of CP.

Re: Willie Parker a Skin

Look at the roster for Portis' last year at Miami. He has emerged from stiffer competition than this.

If he commits himself this offseason, not only will he start but he will have a big year.
