Agreed.

I originally heard 5 years, $12M with an out after year 2. But perhaps it's a 5 year deal for more, with Morgan taking in $12M over the first 2 years. The KFFL numbers imply this.

Also the same site has this about Carriker's deal:

"Updating a previous report, the contract Washington Redskins DL Adam Carriker agreed to Tuesday, March 13, including a $3 million signing bonus and $700,000 base salary for 2012. He can void the years 2013 through 2015 with a $1 million buyback. The base salaries for 2013 is for $3.7 million, $4.7 million for 2014 and $4.7 million for 2015."

Looks like Carriker only got $3M guaranteed not $7M. Based on this Carriker's 2012 cap hit is $1.45M.

But finding the right numbers to put on the cap sheet isn't simple addition and subtraction(there is division and order of operation stuff too), and that's what the discussion was about. You originally said 8+6+5. But those are not the numbers that go onto our teams cap sheet. The right numbers are considerably lower.

Interesting that Carriker negotiated a deal he can get out in just one year

The more I look at it I suspect there is also a $3M option (signing) bonus in 2013 in addition to the numbers mentioned. This would bring the total deal to $20M and the total guaranteed to about $7M as reported.

It is an interesting out clause for Carriker. The Skins probably gave him this option in exchange for less guaranteed overall.

I think that is mostly due to Jenkins, Carriker probably wants to see how much he plays and how often Haslett rotates DL men?

Re: Cap Analysis - Chill It, Skillet

With the news that we've signed a few safeties and are close on re-signing London Fletcher, I think it's a sign that we've either reworked more contracts to create cap space, or that behind-the-scenes discussions with the NFL are taking place and potentially leaning towards a reduction of our cap penalty.

The former is the more likely situation. I don't think these most recent signings would be possible without the creation of additional space.

Re: Cap Analysis - Chill It, Skillet

A couple of contracts are expected to be restructured over the weekend. If they're not already

We have around $6 million in cap space right now, as I understand it

Makes sense. $6 M is in the neighborhood of the amount needed to cover the rookie class. So these free agent signings we're making (Fletch, Jackson, etc.) will require that some space be created through the restructures you mention.
