if you think he has proven he deserves a middle level contract you are delusional. The guy has one play on his highlight video- the guy is a sleeper, who appears to be getting minimal interested- there is no reason to pay him $3 or $4 million a year.

Rahim Moore got $ 4 million a year- Patrick Chung got $2.7 million

Given all that was said back and forth, here is the breakdown of JJ's contract:

Washington Redskins contract breakdown: Jeron Johnson - ESPN

Here’s a breakdown of his deal:

Quote:
2015

Base salary: $800,000, not guaranteed.

Cap hit:$1.225 million.

Note: If the Redskins really don’t like what they have in Johnson, it won’t be hard to get out of the deal. They could cut him in camp and only be out the $350,000 bonus. Also, he will receive $15,625 every game he’s on the 46-man roster up to $250,000. He also has $900,000 in not-likely-to-be-earned incentives.

2016

Base salary: $850,000, not guaranteed.

Cap hit: $1.275 million.

Note: If he’s released next offseason the Redskins would save $1.1 million on the salary cap with $175,000 in dead money. As in 2015, he will receive $15,625 for every game he’s on the 46-man roster, with a maximum value of $250,000. And he still has up to $900,000 in not-likely-to-be-earned incentives.
Seems like we got the one we wanted and pretty close to the cap price you wanted.

FFS!

Culliver gets $16 million fully guaranteed at signing | ProFootballTalk
Risky, but sometimes you gotta roll the dice. To hedge that bet, the Redskins may draft another corner in Rounds 1 - 4. No blue chipper corners in the draft this year, but it seems pretty deep with good talent.

Agreed. Irrefutable take on the actual cost was pretty much spot on.

Have to admit I found the breakdown pleasantly surprising. Happy to admit I wrong on this one. Hope I 'm not wrong on the talent aspect.

My guess is his end pay will be in the area you were saying. The key is the not likely to be earned bonuses. Since he barely played, there could be a not likely to be earned bonus if he makes 3 tackles in a game, or two games with a pass defensed. So I am sure he feels confident he will earn them. Not to bother Lotus, but his being here is probably a kudos to BAs ability to write contracts as it is SM's talent evaluation.

it's not really risky. if he is unable to play due to legal issues or suspension, that guaranteed money is all voided and at least part of the signing bonus is coming back. maximum exposure is under $5m for the skins if he's suspended tomorrow, though we would be short a CB.

Redskins CB Chris Culliver has charge reduced to misdemeanor
by Dave Peters | CBSSports.com
Newly signed Redskins cornerback Chris Culliver had his charge of felony possession of brass knuckles reduced to a misdemeanor on Tuesday, according to the Mercury News.

Culliver signed a four-year, $32 million deal with the Redskins earlier this month. He still has a charge pending involving one count of midemeanor hit-and-run. These charges were incurred while the cornerback was a member of the 49ers.

The 26-year-old was second on the 49ers' defense with four interceptions in 2014. For his career he has 127 total tackles, 35 passes defensed, seven interceptions and two forced fumbles.

Washington Redskins - NFL - CBSSports.com
Good news.

Scot McC on his approach to free agency this year:

Quote:
“We were like, let’s get some good players at the right price,” McCloughan said. “It’s not, go out and sign one or two guys and think, ‘OK, we’re that close to being a playoff contending team.’ We’re not. We’ve got to start building and building. Age was important. Medical history was important, and the contract was important.

...

We want to be able to run the ball, be able to pound the ball and get that D-line to want to quit and understand that when you play the Washington Redskins, we’ll come at you no matter what.””
He also noted that this year's draft is deep in O-Linemen, not so much in safeties.

Washington Redskins GM Scot McCloughan talks free agency, OL in draft - ESPN

Good stuff. It all sounds good. Unfortunately, gonna take a few years to actually build the talent and depth to pull it off.

SM is doing what he said he would do. Now we know what to expect. It's great to have a GM who tells you his team-building philosophy, makes a plan, and then sticks to his plan.

We fans are just going to have to be patient as he works his plan. More importantly, Dan Snyder needs to be patient for the plan to work.

I am very much looking forward to seeing more emphasis put on the power running game. I realize that the game has changed a lot since the 1980's and the NFL is now primarily a passing league but the power running game is still the kind of football I enjoy the most.

For me, John Riggins running behind the Hogs was the ultimate in Redskins football. Power running is in the Redskins DNA as represented by RBs like Larry Brown, Stephen Davis, and Clinton Portis and OLs like Russ Grimm, Joe Jacoby, and Mark May.

At this point, I think it's safe to assume that any OL we draft will be a very large man who is known for his run blocking.

Well, Dallas and Seattle, the top two rushing teams in the league, won a lot of games last year thanks to their running game. Our team has historically been a running team, and we need to get back to that.

Loved what I read about Scot McCloughan's plan. Sounds like the 'skins are still not done in free agency, and sounds like he's going to try and address the offensive line with the draft. I believe the team will be improved next year, but I think you'll see better strides in year two or three under McCloughan. By that point, we'll know if Gruden is our guy in regards to coaching, and of course if RGIII or Cousins is the quarterback of the future.

I go with a #1 cb slightly over the nt knighton move. All have been great though.
